For me, AI has revolutionised dieting. Are others using it?

Every week I ask Chat GPT to produce a meal plan that is three meals a day, high protein, under 1500 calories a day, includes one glass of wine each weekend evening and sources lunch from Itsu or Pret in my “work from office” days as I’ve told it that’s all I have access to.

I ask for the dinner recipes to be drawn from websites of favourite chefs I name.

it provides me a daily meal plan with calorie and protein totals, links to recipes from my chefs, and when I prompt it I get a shopping list from my chosen supermarket.

on weeks I am financially stretched I ask it to adjust for that. On weeks I am bored of an ingredient (usually chicken) I ask it to adjust for that. It excludes things I ask it to like bread or coriander.

if one night I have two glasses of wine rather than the one it planned for I ask it to adjust the rest of the week to compensate so my weekly calories and proteins remain on target.

it is so easy. I’ve lost 6kg in 4 months as a result.

Are others using AI this way? Any other tips for refining instructions that you would recommend?

Please do not follow AI generated recipes as they can actually be dangerous. They are often inaccurate and people have been hospitalized after following incorrect cooking times on meat for example.

Jesus 🤦‍♀️🙄

Good for you but it’s nothing new. I think everybody figured it out by now.
People keep asking Chat GPT about all kind of stuff all the time.

I hadnt.
I spend hours thinking about food/meals etc and also use AI a bjt. Hadn't made this leap.

Yes, I have.

I need to lose weight but a few weeks ago I was really struggling with sugar addiction and ridiculous overeating. I wanted a break from food completely to reset me (and lose weight) so asked Chat GPT to design me a nutritionally complete shake only diet I could follow for up to 12 weeks.

It created 6 shakes (3 a day, mix and match) adjusted for my requirements (no oat milk, only semi skimmed etc) and also suggested the supplements I'd need to support (omega 3 and multivitamin). It provided me a complete macro breakdown.

I have a thread in weightloss with the recipes and my results and it was bloody brilliant. I followed it for three weeks and lost 1stone 3lbs in that time and didn't suffer with hunger at all...the shakes were very high protein and 1300-1400 calories a day. I've only just reintroduced food and I feel great, it was just the start and the reset I needed 🙂

Wow this sounds like an absolute game changer and so happy for you and your weight loss because it's not easy to achieve. Can you say a bit more about the instructions you gave, I'm 💯 trying this

I do this too although you do have to check it's working. On occasion it's not got the protein right or the calories so I have to get it to check it's working. I ask it to check again and it tells me 'I have checked and all meet your requirements.' Then I say, what about Monday and it says 'you're right, Monday's meal is X calories which is below what you asked for.'
Saying all of that though it's made food shopping and cooking much easier.
I'd also recommend the 'sous chef' GPT which can help make some of the recipes a bit more exciting/ creative and is excellent for end of week meals when you need to finish up everything in the fridge.

Trentdarkmore · 10/07/2025 08:52

It does give you the psychological tools too. It is supporting me through binge eating disorder, including meal and snack planning that works with my numerous digestive disorders. I have been asking for help from the NHS for this for seven years but ED services where I live are only available to people who are severely underweight.
ChatGPT has supported me through many binge urges and, quite honestly, has changed my life.

I think the initial input was along the lines of:

I need to lose weight and I would like to begin by going on an entirely liquid shake diet for up to 12 weeks. Please create a nutritionally complete diy shake diet that I can make in a nutribullet. It should be around 1400 calories a day and be using simple ingredients with NO cooking. I'd like several different shake recipes to mix and match.

I then refined several times by saying things like:
I only want to use cows milk
I don't like almond butter
I want it to be very very clear - please remove the 'x or x' options - I want final, defiite recipes
I'm in the UK please change all measures to g and ml (it gives everything in cups amd ounces initially, which are meaningless to me 😂)

Everytime I asked it to change something I also reminded it that it needed to be adjusted to remain nutritionally complete.

I hadn’t! So that’s really helpful for me.

Oh I’m way behind and haven’t used Chat thingy at all.
I might try if for meal planning as whilst I’m happy to cook, sometimes (most days) I can’t think of what to have. Family members are just as bad and say “anything “ when asked what they fancy.
Thanks OP.

Me neither. I use it for many things but hadn't thought of this. I'm in my 60s but I love tech. Have to really as I still work but it's so much better with than without. I have no hankering for the "old days".

This 100%. It has totally helped me in my food , inflammation, gym etc. I can give it a recipe and ask it to take out what I cannot have and replace it with something I can.

I have been struggling with even gluten free bread for months before this. Something was making my whole body joints etc hurt. It took the recipes , took out what i cannot have substituting it with things I can. And now I can have a bread that actually tastes fairly okay. Has totally change my entire body. I no longer live in pain or lacking in energy. It even figured out why I woke up at 2am every morning regardless of where I was sleeping.

How does one actually use chat GPT?
Is it an app?

Don’t be so condescending. Most people would not face thought to do this at all.

go find another avenue for being nasty. Or maybe try not being like this at all.

This is interesting- thanks for the tip!

I’ll admit I’ve never used Chat GPF!

Will check it out, thank you

Yes I have experimented with Chat GPT when I've had to rely on buying my lunch out. I gave a range of shops and asked it to give me a high fibre, high protein option for 500 calories.

Was very good and came up with new things for me to try.

I've also started making omelettes and scrambled eggs with extra egg whites to add protein. Very good idea and it really does make them so much more satiating.

spoonbillstretford · 10/07/2025 16:06

Chicken brown rice bowl in Itsu was the answer by the way - very tasty and filling!

munchingmunch · 10/07/2025 16:32

I did this a few weeks ago but found quite uninspiring.

All the obvious things like greek yogurt with granola, chicken salad, salmon stir fry.
