Cheese or beans first…

Having jacket spuds yesterday and it always weirds me out because dd13 is the only one of us, out of 8nthat puts beans and then cheese on her potato. She states we are the weirdos despite her being the only one, so help me settle a debate, is it cheese or beans first

s/n obviously for those of you who eat beans and cheese on a jacket 😂

No butter, then beans then cheese!
The cheese still melts of course.

Is everyone using grated cheese?

Yes but not the pre-grated stuff which has a coating to stop it sticking and isn’t very nice.

MrsSethGecko · 08/07/2025 08:01

I feel very strongly about this.
It is:
Butter
Cheddar cheese
Beans
Bit more cheese.
A small salad garnish- couple of bits of tomato, cucumber, lettuce. None of your rocket.
The potato should be approaching the size of my head.
Extra butter in case I want to use the empty skin to make a butter and potato skin sandwich.

(I don't do the last part in public, but I want to.)

Beans then cheese, otherwise you get a claggy lump of part melted cheese .

Myblueclematis · 08/07/2025 08:04

I do both. I put cheese then beans on top and then more cheese on top of the beans.

StampOnTheGround · 08/07/2025 08:05

Beans then cheese!

DeanElderberry · 08/07/2025 08:09

None of your rocket.

amen

Rocket is tolerable in an egg mayonnaise sandwich (though watercress or nasturtium are better) but anywhere else is cruel and unusual.

I put the beans in a jug, add cheese to them and microwave for a couple of mins. That way the cheese is melted into the beans before they see the potato.

This is genius.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 08/07/2025 08:18

Beans then grated cheese! I mean, you don't put the parmesan underneath the sauce on a spag bol, do you...?

LittleMonks11 · 08/07/2025 08:23

I would always do butter, beans then cheese. But now I’m thinking butter, cheese, beans then more cheese. I might need this for dinner now!

NewAgeNewMe · 08/07/2025 08:31

I really want jacket potatoes now. In this house
dh is butter, beans then cheese, tuna mayo on the side.
im no butter, cheese, tuna mayo then beans then more cheese. Which is why I’ve now been put on cholesterol tablets. Which means I can now add butter as well 🤤

Cheese then beans, so that the heat from the spud and beans melts the cheese, surely?

I would always do beans then cheese. But this method makes total sense. The cheese gets heat from both sides. I'm going to change!

This is genius.

Thank you.

You can add extra cheese on top if you really want to.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 08/07/2025 09:53

Cheese, beans, cheese. Best of both worlds - some melty cheese and some with a bit of texture still.

Yes of course! What else?? I'm intrigued at the idea that there could be any other way!

You'd think, but in a world where some people put cheese UNDER beans anything seems possible.

Salt, butter, beans then cheese. Lovely.

This.

I make a pizza with pesto, crab, sundried tomatoes (if I have them), mixed cheese and rocket. 😋

I'll let you have my share as well as your own.

Grated cheese then beans every time

Glittertwins · 08/07/2025 18:50

Butter, beans then a load of grated cheese. DCs do the same.

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 08/07/2025 18:59

Cheese
Beans
Coleslaw

TheFairPoet · 08/07/2025 19:01

Beans first. The cheese tastes nicer unmelted somehow

MrsMoastyToasty · 08/07/2025 19:07

Beans first, then cheese. Anything else is an abomination!

I'm also with the cornish people when it comes to scones (despite not being from Cornwall or Devon, but a northern west country lass -Bristol in fact). Jam first, then cream.
