I am 18 minutes into this film, I am so confused already, I have subtitles on, I know it is a modern classic, does it get any less confusing as it progresses I am overloaded already 🤯

Yeah there's a lot of characters introduced in the beginning but they all shake down and you see what they're about as the story moves forward. It's worth sticking with. A little clichéd sometimes especially wrt to women, but it's an interesting focus on crime Vs law + order, brilliant to look at and the scriptwriting is luminous.

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 06/07/2025 19:47

@HauntedBungalow thank you …..I am going to stick with it, I am an admirer of AP , VK and RdN it’s one of those Films I really should have watched by now, I have signed up to ITVX no ads for a month so I am trying to make the most of it. Thank you

It’s one of my favourites. Stick with it.

Screamingabdabz · 06/07/2025 19:53

Ditch it and watch ‘The Heat’ instead starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. A fantastic film and a much better use of your film viewing time.

Extiainoiapeial · 06/07/2025 19:53

Yes, do stick with it.

It is probably in the top 5 (if not top!) of my all time favourite films and I've seen it about 4 or 5 times. First time was when it came out in 1995, at the cinema, and I remember sat there and dreading it coming to an end. It's a long film too!

It's a masterpiece in my opinion

Absolutely agree with this.

I fell asleep during Heat, it was so boring. The Heat is much better.

To add - I fell asleep watching it at the cinema.

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 06/07/2025 19:55

@Screamingabdabz may watch that too, also the film with her and Ryan gosling murder by numbers.

There are the 3 main criminals led by de Niro. They recruit Waingrow who lets them down. Pacino is the detective who lives for the hunt. Everyone else is secondary. The bank robbery is mayhem. Apparently choreographed by Chris Ryan author and former SAS soldier.
The Heat is my teen daughters new favourite film. V.funny

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 06/07/2025 20:02

@Pedallleur I love Chris Ryan ❤️
I need to hop off here dont I ? Waingrow has just escaped in the diner car park….

It's probably my all time favourite film, I must have seen it 10 or more times. Absolute cracker if a movie.

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 06/07/2025 21:10

@LuxuryWoman2020

I spent years saying I loved it as I remember being blown away by it at the time. I made DH watch it with mad fanfare this year and my god I was bored rigid. As was he. Couldn’t remember a thing I enjoyed about it bar the scene when they’re at the table. It was rubbish. I think he’s going to make me watch Jaws.

AllMyExesWearRolexes · 06/07/2025 21:35

Andy McNab was the weapons handling coach on the film, very smooth drills from the actors...

It's the gun battle after the heist , so exciting!

The ending though, I always want AP to let him get away!

I hadn't seen it for years until the other night and I was right back into it.

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 06/07/2025 22:15

@LuxuryWoman2020 spoiler alert !!!!

I am enjoying it, love the cat and mouse element, there are some very tense scenes, it isn’t boring IMO and RdN is very good in this role

I remember watching this loads when I was younger but cannot remember a thing now! I must rewatch it!

FKAT · 06/07/2025 22:20

Like all Michael Mann films it is eyewateringly boring.
Switch it off and watch The Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy instead.

MammaTo · 06/07/2025 22:20

It’s an excellent film. Al Pacino really stands out for me.

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 06/07/2025 22:23

@FKAT that has already been suggested however, I don’t think they are the same genre of film, but I will get round to it as I enjoy a comedy - thanks 🤣

But they had the chat didn't they. They had the chat where they said they'd kill each other. It's just chance which one is faced with it.

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 07/07/2025 00:39

I Hated the ending and felt sad for Edie

OP posts:
HauntedBungalow · 07/07/2025 00:48

Well yeah obviously you feel sad but that's the arc, it does that.

Hope you enjoyed the ride.
