I am 18 minutes into this film, I am so confused already, I have subtitles on, I know it is a modern classic, does it get any less confusing as it progresses I am overloaded already 🤯

I spent years saying I loved it as I remember being blown away by it at the time. I made DH watch it with mad fanfare this year and my god I was bored rigid. As was he. Couldn’t remember a thing I enjoyed about it bar the scene when they’re at the table. It was rubbish. I think he’s going to make me watch Jaws.

Have you never watched Jaws? If you haven't, your DH is doing you a massive favour.
It's an excellent film. The only slightly disappointing bit is when you finally see the shark towards the end because the technology for convincing SFX wasn't available at the time.

Well yeah obviously you feel sad but that's the arc, it does that.

Hope you enjoyed the ride.

I really loved it and in places my heart was beating faster ! ❤️

Yea I let the Jaws thing ride but while we're on the subject it's a super tip top film. Urgent, taut, proper scary.

@HauntedBungalow I also saw Carlitos Way again recently another great film with Al, never get tired of watching that

I agree that's a great movie!

I think heat edges it, I just think the plot is more satisfying, more to it, less sloppy.

But carlitos way is great and has a vibe.

I don't know that new York films now have a vibe, I think it's more difficult to get a hold of.

Can I just throw in another movie .
things to do in Denver when you are dead.
fantastic cast and a cracking good story .

Andy Garcia, I saw that years ago. Have completely forgotten until you said

I found the film rather tedious but the bank robbery and subsequent shootout are very exciting scenes.

So glad to read your updates and that you enjoyed it !

@HauntedBungalow in Carlitos Way I think it was Sean Penn that did it for me, he was superb as the slimy corrupt lawyer ‘David Kleinfeld’ with a serious coke habit and very questionable morals. apparently he channeled Alan Dershowitz who was one of Oj’s ‘Dream Team’ (look at the pics!) apart from Dead Man Walking `I don’t think he has ever topped that performance and it delights me every time I watch the film he is just exceptional it’s a masterclass in front of your eyes

Waingrows death couldn't come quick enough for me. Love the film. No hesitation in killing someone if you are going to be caught or aren't in the team. Double cross them, you get killed. No negotiation. Which is how it probably is. Not a glamorous life even if the de Niro character is smart, rich, charming.

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 07/07/2025 22:06

@Pedallleur there was a really fleeting and genius directing moment when Neal (RdN) was in the car with Eadie on the way to the airport and it crossed his facial expressions and then he did the U Turn - kind of expected but perfectly and subtly acted.
