Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, made by dd2, in my kitchen spot. We were meant to move today but it fell through mid-week <sigh>.

Dd's been up hours by the looks of it - she's washed her school shirts and re-loaded the machine with the darks, done half her homework, fed the cats & made my brew when I came down...I'm not sure if she's done anything else!

Dd1's currently still in bed. She has work later & wanted to be up by 10am at the latest so she can wash her hair and get sorted.

My plan for the day is pack another handful of boxes of things we don't use, update council housing application, finish the friendship bracelets we started last weekend - they all need tying & elastic snipped, upload some things to Vinted, and continue with my latest peg dolls. So nothing taxing, more of a pottering kind of day but with plans for things I want to do.

I have no idea what's for tea yet. Maybe some sort of curry 🤔. Dd1's expecting to be in quite late so has requested a pot noodle for tonight.

After tea, I want to finish sorting a box of beads I dropped 🙈, get a shower, maybe read for a while, then head to bed ready for a similar kind of day tomorrow.

What about all of you? 🙂

Ah could your dds possibly tell my ds to wash his uniform instinctively rather than leaving it on his floordrobe please?!

im just laying in bed, have been really suffering this week with a dreadful period and heavy flooding and feeling pretty shattered.
Dh is showered and is about to strip out our boiler to replace with an air source heat pump (no idea, he’s been yapping about it for ages, I’ve just nodded along).

Dc2 is going on holiday today with her boyfriend so either Dh or I will run them to the airport.

I want to go to town to sample the new Jo Malone raspberry ripple perfume, was hoping to go yesterday but felt awful so spent the day in bed with my laptop working and not leaving the house! Need some fresh air today.

I’d also like a curry for dinner tonight. happy Saturday all!

Crunchymum · 05/07/2025 08:51

Sorry to hear that the move fell through lucysmam but I'm sure you'll find something soon.

No massive plans for us. DC2 has a swimming gala (she's a reserve though and unlikely to swim - she's only just moved up to this team and she's the youngest and smallest - bless her!) so that will take up most of the afternoon.

DC1 is off for a sleepover later and DP is away too (he's helping a friend renovate so he's gone for the weekend) so we'll a girly night later with a film and popcorn.

Dinner will be something easy. Probably just chicken stir fry.

garlictwist · 05/07/2025 08:59

I've just been for a swim which wasn't that great as it was really busy and there were a few "altercations" between swimmers. DH and I probably going to head over to the North York Moors for a walk in a bit. Hoping the sun comes out.

Sorry about the house @lucysmam I have had a slow start, pottered and tidied the kitchen. Just had yogurt and fruit for breakfast. Trying to be good today after eating so much bad food yesterday! Taking dc to an activity in a bit so I need to get dressed. Dc 2 is still asleep and has friends coming over later so pizza for tea for them I think. I need to give the house a bit of a tidy and organise before they come after rearranging dc room. Hoping to squeeze in a dog walk later the weather is not looking to cheerful here!

Kim82 · 05/07/2025 09:05

Good morning everyone, I had the best night’s sleep I’ve had in a good while last night. I was exhausted so was in bed by 9pm and I didn’t get up until 7.30am this morning so I feel refreshed and fully awake today. Not that I have any clue what to do with myself today…

Dh is at work, dd17 is still asleep and dd10 is away on her school residential until Monday so I’m on my own with no plans. So far I’ve showered and dressed and put a load of washing on and I’m just waiting for my Tesco delivery (which needs to hurry up as we’ve no milk so I haven’t had a cup of tea yet!). I think I might find something to binge watch all day but I always feel guilty just sitting around watching tv.

Tonight we’re having home made chicken kebabs for tea and dd17 has a friend coming to stay over. I’ll probably spend the evening in front of the tv with dh. So an incredibly quiet and uneventful day for me today. I feel lost without my little sidekick!

Chipsahoy · 05/07/2025 09:09

School holidays have begun here. It’s grey and chilly, typical! Smalest dc has had breakfast and we’ve showered but so far that’s it. Older two dc are still asleep. We will do some sanding and painting today and I will make us a cake of some
sorts but that’s it!

RabbitsRock · 05/07/2025 09:11

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone. Sorry to read that your move has fallen through lucysmam. What a pain. Hope you find something else very soon 🏡
I’ve been awake since about 5.30 with arm/neck/backache although it always wears off & I’m fine all day. There’s quite a few things happening locally & I’m frustrated as I’m still not allowed to drive. Might try to sort out some of the carrier bags which are taking over the house! Everywhere needs decluttering. I looked into services to help but they’re expensive. Dishwasher needs unloading/loading & I’ll hang DH’s work shirts out if it doesn’t rain. I haven’t drawn the curtains yet but it’s pretty dark. More washing to put on. Two of the bunnies have been separated for a couple of days as one had some toxic stuff sprayed on his fur so we didn’t want his mate to try & groom him. They can go back in the same hutch at lunchtime. It’s been so sad to see them pining 😢🐰😢🐰 DH is working & won’t have time to come home in between like he usually does but he finishes around 3 I think. Looking forward to cheering on The Lionesses tonight. DH making his famous sausage pasta for tea. He might go for a bike ride late afternoon. I will try to go for a walk at some point. DD16 has no plans although she needs to prepare for a college interview on Monday. Have a great Saturday folks!

OneLilacEagle · 05/07/2025 09:14

Morning all.
Just waiting for the washing machine to end and enjoying a cup of tea. We go on holiday to Turkey on Tuesday so got a bit of packing to finish off - it's 70% done so not too much. I want to book a Turkish bath for the first day as well. We'll try and get the house tidied up too. If my Superdrug order arrives, I'll do an everything shower later.
Our summer holidays started on Wednesday and it's rained heavily ever since so DS has already had far too much screen time. He did a life guarding class on 3 days so I don't feel too bad but I'll need to come up with some ideas for the next few days as that's finished now - suggestions welcome! The sewing shop lady gave him a huge bag of Harris Tweed off cuts so we're learning to use the sewing machine to make a bookmark for starters. Only in short bursts though to avoid mutual rage! We might get it finished today, though. Takeaway leftovers for lunch and something similarly easy for dinner - I am ready to be drinking cocktails in the sun.

LittleCosette · 05/07/2025 09:22

Morning all! Just sorting the master timetable for September into individual timetables for my team. Bracing myself for some difficult conversations on Monday.
Then I’m going to pick DD up from gymnastics and grab some bits from Tesco before DH and I get the train into the city. Turkish for lunch and then an escape room before a couple of cocktails to celebrate BIL’s birthday.

MackenCheese · 05/07/2025 09:29

I've just had a hot chocolate, then I'm off to the curtain shop to return some swatch books (ordering new curtains!).

Then I'm sorting out the house which looks like a bombsite after house guests.

Then going to my sisters birthday party. It's a big birthday so it's a church hall affair with loads of Caribbean food, yum!

When we get back it's last minute packing for a tomorrow morning flight out on holiday with the kids. I cannot wait to put my feet up. (GCSE and Prom survivor this summer). So a busy weekend planned....n

ViciousCurrentBun · 05/07/2025 09:31

On my motorhome looking out across fields eating breakfast. Off to buy propane as running low then moving on to another site. First bad weather day, on day 9 of our trip so will be going food shopping, doing washing, playing board games and reading. I swam in a little cove yesterday and walked round some sea caves, we are in Cornwall.

Mumofsoontobe3 · 05/07/2025 09:33

Good morning all. I've been up with both kids since 6am, I've had a shower I just need to dry my hair. Youngest napping, eldest having second breakfast and I'm about to go over my hospital bag again for birth of DC3. Also need to call garage about my car repairs after someone hit into the back of us on Monday. Worried we won't have the car back for baby's arrival. Hope all have a lovely weekend.

ShipshapeShore · 05/07/2025 09:33

Trying to restore order in the house this morning, food shop, then a much needed brunch with friends later. These last weeks of term are so so busy, it's non stop at my school and DD is in year 6 so we have all the Leavers stuff too! I'm tired and a bit emotional so an afternoon off is just what I need.

Sorry about your move @lucysmam I like to believe that things happen for a reason so maybe you just weren't meant to live there. It still sucks right now though.

Rainbow1235 · 05/07/2025 09:41

Good morning all we are on our way to the zoo with my grandson he’s very excited . Will have lunch out somewhere nearby then I think . Sorry about the move lucysmam how gutting for u . Have a good and safe day all 🫶

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 05/07/2025 09:46

Good morning Lucysmam and others. That's a pity about the house move Lucysmam. Fingers crossed a better one appears soon. It's an unsettling time for you all.
I've had two coffees then put a wash on. A trip to Aldi to stock up for the boys then a cuppa and a couple of slices of toast and butter. The washing is done so I'll get the tumble dryer going. Later I'm looking after the boys to let dd and Dsil go shopping for holiday stuff. We are all going on holiday next Saturday to Gran Canaria for a week in the sun. This afternoon it will be drawing and talking about football. Dgs1 is obsessed! Dgs2 will empty my shoe cupboard and play at shops and airplane. I am expected to go along with it. That's an easy shout. He may want the train set out. That's easy too. I'm having steak goulash for dinner. Have a good day all

DilemmaDelilah · 05/07/2025 09:51

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I am so very sorry to hear about your (non) move @lucysmam . It must be extremely distressing and worrying for you.

I was up and dressed by 9am and I am sitting on the sofa with a cup of coffee, having just finished some very delicious melon. At the moment I am eating a lot of melon - it's easier on my guts than a lot of other fruit and it's a good low calorie way of filling up. The mounjaro has decreased my appetite a little, but since I have always had a very good appetite (aka I eat too much) I still get hungry - I just eat a bit less at meals. It's less than 2 weeks in though so lots of room for improvement.

I have no particular plans for today. There is a wash on already, and I will probably put on another later on. It's not sunny, and quite windy. I will ask Mr Dilemma if there is anything he would like to do - but in reality I know that he will want to spend hours on his new computer trying to recover all his music files from his old corrupted external hard drive to put on his new external hard drive, as he has spent most of the last week doing. His music is extremely important to him, despite the fact that in the last year he has probably only played about 6 tracks in total from his computer. It is as important to him as all the vinyl we have stored in the cupboard under the stairs (that he says he can't play because he hasn't got a record deck.... despite me buying him one which connects to the computer via USB several years ago. Apparently he doesn't have room to set it up properly).

We went to IKEA to see if we could get any more of their fantastic Briljera kitchen knives a couple of days ago. They are so good I thought I might get a set for each of my daughters (and I wanted some more for myself as well). I wasn't holding out much hope as the website was only showing the paring knives in stock, but they also had some of the big knives so I got one of those and another couple of paring knives. Sadly they didn't have any of the sets left. Mr Dilemma decided we should get some more of their delicious cheese (despite the fact I'm trying not to each much cheese) and we ended up getting all 4 varieties. I hope he's going to eat them! We had thought we would have our evening meal there, but the restaurant was closed. No mention of it on the website, or as you to into the store, or in the lift or by the stairs, and in fact nothing as you go into the restaurant area until you see all the counter area blocked off. Or rather - until Mr Dilemma sees the counter area blocked off..... embarrassingly I managed to go in and find a table to wait for him without noticing at all! In my defence - I was extremely tired by then and he had told me to find somewhere to sit, then he would order the food after taking the shopping back to the car.

I'm not entirely sure what we're eating tonight. We have some gammon left from the joint I cooked yesterday so it will be something with that. Mr Dilemma will be out until around 7.30 - so it will be something that I can do last minute or I can keep warm. There is a little bit of mash and cabbage left over as well so I might have bubble and squeak with mine, and I might do eggs and beans for him.

I made a vegetable curry yesterday, despite the fact that I don't actually like vegetables very much.... I knew there were some vegetables in the fridge that needed using up, and I have been craving a tuna curry (Morrison's used to do one in a pouch but stopped that a few years ago) so my thought is that I can add tuna to the vegetable curry. I'm planning on having some of that for lunch today, and I have frozen the other 2 portions. Mr Dilemma said it smelled nice and thought he might like it too. I know he won't actually have any because he likes vegetables even less than I do, but at least he thought he might.

Anyway - that's today's essay written - there will be another instalment tomorrow 😁.

WonsWoo · 05/07/2025 09:55

Gong out shortly to see my Mum and Dad. They have just found out they are going to be great grandparents so they are thrilled which is great because Mum hasn’t been very well and it’s just what she needs. (It’s great anyway of course. My baby Niece is having a baby!)

DH and I are going out to lunch, probably to a garden centre so we can also look at hydrangeas. We are not gardening people but want to see if we can manage hydrangeas in pots as they’re so pretty. DS is sorting his pit/room ready for moving out in 2 weeks.

Not much else on. DDog is going to the sitter and they will walk him. I’ve got some gyozas so will do a dumpling soup for dinner. DH is watching Squid game and I’m on Extraordinary Attourney Woo which is so good. Highly recommend Kdrama if you haven’t dipped your toes in yet. There’s a massive thread on MN for recommendations.

Have a great day @lucysmam and everyone else 😊

fridascruffs · 05/07/2025 09:59

I'm in a coffee shop, having a latte and a pastry. We're on Day 52 of the southwest coast path, mostly wild camping, so this morning we woke with a glorious view out to Portland Bill. Yesterday was a lot of big hills so I'm a bit demob happy today. We're nearly finished.

Bobbieiris · 05/07/2025 10:06

Going to potter about and have a chill day. Lay in until 8:30 then got up and fed my 11 month old Twinnies. They’re now on the play mat and I’m having cereal and a cuppa. Partner is at work so I’m going to watch trashy tv and do a few light chores. Love days just faffing around at home :) been out and about a lot last couple of days which can be tiring with the babies so need a relaxing day

inigomontoyahwillcox · 05/07/2025 10:17

Woke up with a tummy ache after eating pizza too late last night, rotten period pains too. Need to get sorted ASAP as it’s a big day today so am lying in bed sipping some Andrew’s and downing some paracetamol. It’s the start of 8 days of festivities where I live (called 8 Day Weekend, happens every 3 years with proceeds going to local charities), starting with a carnival procession today which we always watch from our friend’s front garden which is on the route. There’s events on every day and night in a massive marquee they’ve put up on the common and tonight is the 90s night featuring East 17, D:Ream, Another Level and Rozalla 😆 DH and I are DJing in a local bar at different times during the day/night as well. It’s all great fun as the whole town is in festival mode for 8 days.

frozendaisy · 05/07/2025 10:20

Morning all
sorry to hear about the new house not moving today, is that not moving into it at all or just delayed?

teens still asleep, rare on a Saturday, they can have a bit longer
eldest has been out and about all week so I expect it will be mates round here day and youngster has end of year exams next week so needs to read something would imagine

I have to finish a painting so need to find painting clothes

have started the end of school (for eldest) declutter and now gcse revision is over (for the time being) I can zip through those outstanding jobs - small fixes that don’t take long - 2 hours type things but you need space and tools and possible extra time if you have to improvise - could give a list but it would send you to sleep! but for example - I discovered one double airbed plug had come off, ordered new ones via Amazon, they were screw fittings which airbed was push in, so glued the screwed fitting one in place - so glue has dried will inflate it today to see if it’s worked - this sort of thing times by 50/60!

Finished an autobiography I was battling through during GCSE time (because I was read out) finally and now back onto summer fiction which is much more fun and accidentally bought x2 Edward Hopper books this week (for inspiration?) they are mostly pictures, after saying I didn’t need any more Edward Hopper books, but I obviously do (I think everyone does but apparently that’s “insane mum” - cue lecture about his influence on many media sources)

and plan to teach them backgammon later

making homemade KFC chicken thighs, sweetcorn, Louisiana rice later

RabbitsRock · 05/07/2025 10:29

frozendaisy could I have your recipe for the chicken thighs & rice please?

Thislittlekitten · 05/07/2025 10:30

Morning Saturday crew.

@lucysmam I’m so sorry to hear about the move. It’s so stressful dealing with it all. Hope you get somewhere soon.

Been up for a while pottering about and tidying as DD has a group of friends over for a sleepover tonight. Dog walked. Cats fed.

Heading into town soon to pick up a parcel. Once the girls are here I’ll probably just hide upstairs for the night!

Modernme · 05/07/2025 10:38

I got out of bed at 10 im having coffee.
I will wake up fully have a shower and do some cleaning.
Then i will spend the rest of the day in pjs bingeing on kdramas and bl dramas.
Eating crap.
And ignoring the world.

Zippedydodah · 05/07/2025 10:43

Good morning @lucysmam and Co, I’m enjoying cheese and tomato on toast and a large mug of coffee after walking the dogs. It usually a lovely walk but there was pigeon shooting nearby so ZDog1 was wimping out and ZDog2 was rolling in the wet grass then dust so is decidedly grubby and needs a bath. DH was grumping about everything and then it started drizzling heavily so I was quite glad to get home, sigh….
My plans to get the garden tidied today will have to wait until it’s stopped drizzling, not a problem as I have nothing else planned for the next few days.
sorry about your moving plans being scuppered @lucysmam , I hope you can sort something out soon x
I want to start a mitred square blanket today, using up some of my large sock yarn stash, I really don’t need any more blankets but I might make one for each of the DGSs. I’m a slow knitter but at least they won’t grow out of them!
Cold chicken and chips for dinner, there’s salad to use up too.
Best wishes to everyone 🌻
