Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, made by dd2, in my kitchen spot. We were meant to move today but it fell through mid-week <sigh>.

Dd's been up hours by the looks of it - she's washed her school shirts and re-loaded the machine with the darks, done half her homework, fed the cats & made my brew when I came down...I'm not sure if she's done anything else!

Dd1's currently still in bed. She has work later & wanted to be up by 10am at the latest so she can wash her hair and get sorted.

My plan for the day is pack another handful of boxes of things we don't use, update council housing application, finish the friendship bracelets we started last weekend - they all need tying & elastic snipped, upload some things to Vinted, and continue with my latest peg dolls. So nothing taxing, more of a pottering kind of day but with plans for things I want to do.

I have no idea what's for tea yet. Maybe some sort of curry 🤔. Dd1's expecting to be in quite late so has requested a pot noodle for tonight.

After tea, I want to finish sorting a box of beads I dropped 🙈, get a shower, maybe read for a while, then head to bed ready for a similar kind of day tomorrow.

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning lucysmam and all,
Sorry to hear about the house move not happening. I do hope something brilliant happens soon.

I am just about to go and get ready for the wedding I am conducting later. It looks a bit rainy, so I don't really know what to wear, plus, if we're outside, the possibility of rain spots on the paperwork or the wind blowing it away adds an extra layer of excitement!
I will take a brolly and add a paperweight to my wedding bag.
After that I will get changed into my normal rags in the van and ditch the good shoes for something less formal, and become more like me again.

This evening is a coven meeting, with guests from another coven, so I need to go shopping for some marvellous food to bring that covers everyone's dietary needs. I've got some home made ratatouille in the fridge but at least one person can't eat tomatoes, sadly.

DH is going to help a friend do something rural with a tractor, a lot of other equipment, a lot of noise and a bunch of his mates. Then they will be at the beer festival in the village pub for the rest of the day.

Happy Saturday!

Morning lucysmam and all. Sorry the house move fell through lucysmam. Sad

It was my birthday on Thursday so today we’re going to my parents’ house to stay for the weekend. They stay in the same town as us but they have a large house so it’s a lot easier for us all to stay. My brother, sister-in-law and one of my cousins are all going to be staying there this weekend as well. Our usual thing is a few too many wines, a nice homemade meal from my mum, then an after dinner game. It’s often poker but I’m taking Cards Against Humanity for this weekend. Then tomorrow it’ll be a takeaway of my choice so my mum doesn’t have to cook for 9 people two days in a row.

DH works nightshift so he went there after work and we’ll get picked up later. DC1 is walking the dogs before going to work and she’ll join us later, DC2 is currently at youth group at our local theatre practising as the Wicked Witch for their upcoming production of Wizard of Oz.

frozendaisy could I have your recipe for the chicken thighs & rice please?

Marinate chicken pieces in fridge for a few hours in natural yogurt garlic paprika onion granules pepper
then cook in oven - 5 minutes before ready cover in pancho(sp) breadcrumbs

Louisiana rice - roast red pepper and 2 tomatoes - skin and finely chop or blend
In a skillet (or heavy frying pan) add oil, fry rice till some is translucent (I use easy cook brown but works with white just adjust cooking time) add smoked paprika, garlic, dried thyme, oregano, onion powder, black pepper and cayenne) add tomatoes and peppers, add chopped spring onions, cover with stock (chicken or vegetable). Cover pan (if you don’t have a lid big enough use silver foil) - it’s ready when rice is cooked - so better to add more stock rather than there be liquid at the end - if it’s undercooked leave it steaming covered in pan for 10 minutes off heat

@RabbitsRock if you want a Summer lighter rice dish still serve with chicken and salad go Greek

rice and orzo coked together (time it according to cooking times but put in sat pan)
once strained add squeeze fresh lemon juice a dash of extra virgin olive oil and chopped fresh parsley (it’s divine)

Tidied up outside. Had a chat with neighbour who's husband is poorly, and being a stubborn so & so about seeking medical help.

Had a scone with raspberry jam & a cuppa.

Will clean kitchen. Then pop into town for a mooch.

Not great weather here so will probably have to duck in & out a bit.

Not walking niece's doggy today, as she's not working, so can do a rain walk with himGrin
Happy Saturday!

Morning (just) Everyone!

Sorry about your house @lucysmam

I’m sitting watching the British Lions game with my second coffee. Had a nice long lie in which involved a FaceTime with my toddler nephew who’s just too cute.

Got up and DP made himself steak and eggs with steak leftover from the BEST Steak sandwiches last night, he’s now gone off to cricket.

DS1 is in his room, I think he’s playing golf later and DS2 is in the shower - he’s finally realised it’s a daily thing!

I can’t decide what to have for brunch/lunch - might be a tomato and mozzarella salad but I also quite fancy prawn and chorizo pasta.

The boys are going to their dad’s this evening so I will probably go and meet DP down the cricket club, drink wine and get a takeaway on the way home.

Happy Saturday all! I’m so sorry about the house Lucysmam. Something will come up Flowers

This week has been ridiculously busy and I was exhausted so I’ve had the laziest morning ever, dozing in bed with coffee. I’m moving now and going to do a bit of cleaning before going to a festival / concert this evening at DD’s school, she’s playing in it and it’s always fun.

dontforgetme · 05/07/2025 13:15

Good afternoon all.

Sorry to hear about your house @lucysmam something will come up, sending you positive vibes!

Been a morning of online shopping and itinerary planning for our Disney Florida holiday in 4 weeks time. So excited but also very stressed (as I always am before a holiday!) Have an hours work to do now then will get ready to see the in laws. Couple of hours at theirs then we are heading to Miller and Carter as they live right by it.

Dd at her dad’s, dp and ds are playing footy in the garden.

So glad it’s Saturday. This week has really took the piss, works been crazily busy and the days have been so slow! Couple of drinks and carry on with Squid Game tonight, then will jump into my bed and (hopefully) thoroughly enjoy one more morning of no alarm!

Hope everyone is having a lovely Saturday.

On my motorhome looking out across fields eating breakfast. Off to buy propane as running low then moving on to another site. First bad weather day, on day 9 of our trip so will be going food shopping, doing washing, playing board games and reading. I swam in a little cove yesterday and walked round some sea caves, we are in Cornwall.

This sounds like such a lovely morning. I think I’d like a motor home. Would you recommend it @ViciousCurrentBun?
To all those heading off on holiday (especially those who have survived the dreaded exam season!) have the most wonderful time.
