Celebrity deaths that shocked you

Which celebrity’s death do you feel shocked at?

I would probably say Robin Williams. Which is probably an obvious one. George Micheal and Bowie also.

Steven Gately
Brittany Murphy

Ah Stephen was such a loss. I met him as a kid such a nice guy so patient with fans

Bowie, he was a constant in my life, always doing interesting things musically, so talented and his good looks were a real bonus. My copy of Black Star landed on my mat on Sunday (the day before his death was announced ) and because his music needs time and attention I thought I would listen to it throughout the following week. Woke to the news of his death the next day and felt unable to listen to the new album until the summer of 2016. I cried, I have never cried about the death of a famous person before or since. I guess it was because I had listened to him from my teens through to my late middle age, he "never let me down" and I still miss him and wonder what he would have to say about the state of the world. It also makes me sad to think that he never got to see his grandchildren or to see his daughter Lexi fully grow up.

Patrick Swayzy and Paul Walker 🥺

EasternStandard · 30/06/2025 19:28

Not a shock due to age but Dame Maggie Smith was very sad.

Rewatching Downtown Abbey and she’s incredible.

Michael Jackson was a paedophile. He paid people off, he admitted to having numerous young boys sleeping in his bed. Even if you think he wasn't a paedo, this should be enough to think what a creepy guy he was. The whole set up was bloody weird, makes my skin crawl.

The Queen died at 96, nothing sad or tragic about it.

What has any of that got to do with being shocked he died?

John Peel I still miss him not just the music but his home truths R4 programme which accompanied me on my long Saturday morning drives home.

Agreed, although also very disappointed finding out about his dodgy history with young women.

Victoria Wood - I loved her writing - the comedy and the serious stuff - and I feel the world was robbed.

Terry Pratchett.

Kimwestonhelpless · 30/06/2025 19:31

Sting.. Human traffic movie 90 s rave scene.😁

PrissyGalore · 30/06/2025 19:33

Naya Rivera-that poor woman who drowned to save her son. She was fantastic in Glee as Santana along with Cory Monteith.

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 30/06/2025 19:34

Caroline Flack. I remember being really upset but I wasn’t a follower.
Alan Rickman - I cried my eyes out that day.
Matthew Perry - he was my fave f.r.i.e.n.d. Very sad.

I'm shocked people care that he did, therefore his death shocked me.

Sting isn't dead ! (I just had to Google in case I missed this news )

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 30/06/2025 19:36

George Michael always made me sad that he died on his own at Christmas 😢

Robin Williams was a shock and I was genuinely upset.

Alan Rickman was upsetting as well.

John Lennon. As it was the one and only time I have seen my Dad almost cry.

Yes, I remember feeling shocked at the news about John Lennon.

Neveranynamesleft · 30/06/2025 19:41

Amy Winehouse.

You were the violent one! It doesn’t matter how big he is or that he injured you by pushing you away, you were the instigator

He was violent, just not physically. But yes I agree I instigated the physical response. However, the police and doctors didn’t arrest me. They arrested him. They explained that women who respond violently to verbal and mental abuse are doing so in self defence. I owned it, I know I punched him - but I was the one who ended up needing medical assistance and he was arrested. Things aren’t black and white.

Bobnobob · 30/06/2025 19:42

Brittany Murphy

Nobody knows the truth

You know the truth. That's what matters. Sorry you experienced this.

Thank you for understanding. So many women suffer mental abuse and try so hard to protect their families. Responding with violence was my breaking point and I’m not proud of it and I take full responsibility. However, it wouldn’t have happened out of nowhere, I’ve never hit anyone else in my life.

For me the first was Paula Yates, I could t get my head around someone with four kids taking drugs when they needed her, with the youngest one in the house and not considering the risks associated with that. Also Diana, that was a tragic accident, or was it? But how does someone with so much protection die that way?

Did you see the documentary series about her. Some of the cruelty inflicted on her by the tabloids was truly hard to watch, especially after Michael Hutchence's death was truly hard to watch. That and finding out her father was Hughie Green and losing the love of her life tragically just broke her. The way Ian Hislop spoke to her on HIGNFY was so unpleasant I've never been able to watch him on TV since.

Also Michael Mosley, Diana, George Michael all shocked and saddened me.

Bikergran · 30/06/2025 19:44

Victoria Wood. She still had so much to do, who knows what she might have produced by now.

localnotail · 30/06/2025 19:44

Shocked at Amy Winehouse dying, that was weird.

Incredibly sad and crying my eyes out when Freddie Mercury died. (Yes, I'm THAT old).

Robogob · 30/06/2025 19:44

Peaches Geldof and Liam Payne. Both shocking and desperately sad.
