You’ve got a vegan, a vegetarian and 3 meat eaters.

What’s your menu?

I am considering mine currently. Thinking Indian is a good option but you just know someone will moan they don’t like spices!

I’d make sure that they weren’t kept waiting for their food and that I provided plenty of vegan-friendly wine to get all of them pissed. I reckon that’s a winning formula.

You’d win me over on that basis!

One of my favourite games is to feed non vegans vegan food to see if they notice. They rarely do. So I'd have an entirely vegan menu. What though, depends on the time of year (am I getting too invested in this?)

EatingSleeping · 24/06/2025 21:21

Id do a Moroccan style starter. Roasted vegetables. Hummus. Broad bean dip. Flat bread.

Id do a vegan chickpea tagine I think. If the vegans/ veggies didn't mind meat being at the table id do lamb rump maybe and a lemon couscous.

For desert I'd do thinly sliced pineapple with mint sugar. Maybe orange/ mango sorbet.

If someone wants to have a little whinge about spices I'll pass them some natural yoghurt and suggest you do the same with your Indian meal (winks)

alexalisten · 24/06/2025 21:26

For the Vegetarian and meat eaters
Starters:Tzatziki with veg sticks
Main vegetarian moussaka
Dessert strawberries and cream
For the vegan id give the number of a local taxi firm.

do you think the meat eaters would feel short changed by no meat?

I would like to state that unfortunately I have had a professional hospitality background aka chef qualification, in my previous life, so I’m not allowed on come dine with me. Which really makes me sad. So I have to live my life in this way through others!

Whatever I cook, it will definitely be something I've never cooked before

AdaColeman · 24/06/2025 21:36

I'd do a Greek style meal, with various dips and tempura vegetable fritters and flat breads, then spanakopita, tomato and olive tart, and a selection of stuffed Mediterranean vegetables, Greek roast potatoes with herbs and lemon. 🍋 🍋 🍋
Then strawberries and ouzo for pudding. 🍓 🍓 🍓 🍓

Three pies
Oxtail
Something with lentils 🤢 for the vegan and veggie
Served with mash and veg, cooked well with the relevant spices, easy to adapt for vegans

As above, tonnes of wine and crisps

Dessert - apple pie and ice cream - and a dairy free version

No idea for a starter tbh

lilacbreeze · 24/06/2025 21:41

Puff pastry tart with roasted vegetables and vegan pesto

beef wellington , mushroom wellington with vegan puff pastry. Bit of mash and green beans.

sticky toffee pudding made with soy ingredients

LizzyTango · 24/06/2025 21:41

I always think most inclusive to try to do similar for everyone rather than completely different meals. Perhaps a soup to start. Broccoli or butternut. Not the most exciting but possible to make very nicely and can add crumbled blue cheese on top for those that can have it. Plus freshly baked bread to show some complexity (CDWM guests are harsh). Then kebabs lamb/chicken/halloumi/veg. Homemade garlicky sauce or tzatziki- use vegan yoghurt to do them one too. Salad, spiced cous cous. Perhaps some other Mediterranean sides like gigantes. Pudding is hard as so much dairy. Brownies you can make with oil not dairy, but think might still need eggs. Vegans are pains.

UnicornMamma · 24/06/2025 21:57

I'd base the meal on a vegan recipe as that's the area I think with most restrictions.

So vegan base meal but offer different sides so taking your example of indian:

Vegan based curry option for every one

One vegan based side and one side with a bit of meat.

That way everyone has something to eat, but those who want can add extra based on their own diets.

Not if it tastes good. I eat meat but I will quite happily eat meat free dishes and often do

Vitrolinsanity · 25/06/2025 00:15

The veggie and the meat eaters are easy. I’m going to M&S for the vegan.

Chicken flavour supernoodles i hope?

They are actually vegan too 🤩

sashh · 25/06/2025 04:36

Courgette and coriander soup. It's vegan but even my dad who only really likes traditional food likes it.

Tomato and aubergine casserole with a green salad and crusty bread.

Frozen banana blitzed with cocoa powder and peanut butter.

rose69 · 25/06/2025 10:32

I can’t cook so I may just have to channel previous memorable hosts and let my snake poo on the table and then get really pissed and go to bed early before the guests have left.
