Someone is secretly bullying me at work..

And I don't know who it is.

Basically, someone constantly changes my chair settings on the days I leave at 3pm (and others are in the office until 4/5pm).
I have a really bad back so my chair is set at a position that helps it plus we all have to do ergonomic checks as part of an EHS thing for our desk and chair.
So it really annoys me when it has been played with and someone is doing it on purpose. Other things happen to like the cables of my monitor are unplugged and my mouse is switched off.
When I started there over a year ago there were a couple of guys who would do stuff like this and it happened so much I had to bluntly tell them to stop. And they did. But this seems to be a bit 'extra'. I obviously made the mistake of showing my annoyance when it has happened previously (and by that I mean by saying something like "who has changed my chair settings?"

But the issue is - I don't know who it is and won't be able to find out.
My manager won't be able to find out. There's no CCTV and no one would admit it if she brought it up..so what do I do?!

Please come back and tell us the outcome of the plan!

I will but it is long-term so I can't yet!

I’m sorry you started a “chair log” there’s 10000% more to the story than you have let on, do you have issues where you are unable to execute all areas of your post then deflect? I only ask because I’ve been in both management and peer positions where people who rather than address their own issues get super defensive and create strange non existent scenarios in an effort to self preserve (which is human nature) xx

Lol this couldn't be further from the truth. I suspect I am being targeted because I am very good at my job and other(s) feel threatened.

Quite shocking that you’re being victim blamed here. It must definitely be made up or your fault…ffs this shit is stupid. Clearly some dickhead thinks they’re clever and are doing this, why anyone would think this was in your head is beyond me

Motheroffive999 · 27/06/2025 08:11

Is it still happening?

FeetLikeFlippers · 27/06/2025 16:34

Wow, I just read your update about the potential culprits being on paternity leave… I hope you catch the idiots, but also be grateful that you only have to deal with them at work - imagine having a baby with somebody that immature! As for the PP saying “that’s not bullying” - what else would they call continued unnecessary harassment?

I have done!

Still thinking it’s the cleaners … sitting on the chair to clean the desk or banging it with the Hoover. Giving that keyboard a good clean maybe unplugging because worried about electricity …

Well if this is the case then everyone else's chair and desk would be affected. Strange if if it is only the OP who is affected?

The more you mention it the more it will happen. Just ignore it - the perpetrators want a reaction.
We used to have a woman, who for reasons unknown, locked her mouse mat (bog standard work supplied one) away every night. On the odd occasion she would forget and then we’d hide it. If she’d never started locking it away we’d have never started hiding it.

I may be a bit off track here, as not quoting the original 'chair' thread' - but just genuinely wondering what inspired you to decide, apparently collectively, to decide to hide her mouse mat? By your own admission, you (& the 'others' you mention'), are the 'perpetrators' here - this is surely a definition of being a bully / bullies' - by doing something to make the person uncomfortable in her workplace. Did you get the reaction you all wanted? Did you discuss & have a giggle beforehand? It may not be a big deal to you, but please think how that lady must have felt, knowing her colleagues are taking the p**s, as it obviously matters to her - just - WHY do it? Or even just ask her, as you claim 'reasons unknown'?. She is surely doing no harm to you by putting away her work equipment? - why hurt her (for 'reasons unknown)'?. Please learn to be kind.

@Hungrycaterpillarsmummy have you had any success catching or stopping the idiots?

HoulYurWhisht · 07/02/2026 23:25

How is this going? Have you had any success? Hope you’re sitting comfortably and harassment free.

So since the thread, weirdly not much happened. However there's still a very toxic atmosphere. Things are about to change so I'm looking forward to that. I'm off for a week and during that time, one absolute twat is leaving (yay) but I do wonder if there will be one final hurrah from him that affects me. We shall see!
However, I'm so glad he is going as he did perpetuate the toxicity in the office.

Are you able to tell us what the plan was going to be?

Do you think he's the perpetrator?
