Booked a holiday, but the kids don't cope with busy places
Can anyone recommend more quiet places ,away from tourist areas
Penzance and around there ,maybe little villages or quiet towns
I know it's asking a lot during the summer holidays
But school terms mean its this or no holiday

Does it need to be Cornwall?

Many other lovely areas of the UK that are going to be less busy that Cornwall.

Dearover · 22/06/2025 18:06

How old are your children and what do they enjoy doing?

Puglicks · 23/06/2025 09:57

We are just happy pottering about in different towns ,seeing new places
Just wondering if anyone can recommend quiet places /towns in that area

I've already booked it ,as the accommodation was a bargain for summer holidays..but in hindsight,I am worrying it's going to be to busy for us

Where have you booked?

What do you want to do? Beaches? Walks? Touristy trips?

Chocolateorange22 · 23/06/2025 09:59

You'd have been better going to the Northumberland coast than Cornwall to be honest. There aren't many places down in Cornwall over the summer that would be quieter.

NeedForSpeed · 23/06/2025 10:00

And will you have a car?

Puglicks · 23/06/2025 10:00

We are staying in Penzance

Yes we have a car and two dogs
DC are adults who don't like the sand
But I'm looking forward to swimming in the sea

I think you might be right ,but I've paid for it now

Where's your accommodation located? We can have a think about where would be suitable if we know this.

RedNine · 23/06/2025 10:04

Oh sorry. X post.

St Michael's Bay is vast.

NeedForSpeed · 23/06/2025 10:04

Penzance is not that bad in summer. Have a potter down Chapel Street - lots of beautiful old buildings and pubs like the Admiral Benbow and the Turks Head.

Book a trip to the Jubilee Pool in Pz. If you want the warm pool you definitely need to book in advance, but it's not crazy busy. I spent my childhood in the pool there.

Go for a nice walk around Botallack mines, not a known tourist spot really, but it's beautiful on a sunny day.

Avoid St Ives like the plague if you don't like busy.

Holymotherforkingshirtballs · 23/06/2025 10:04

Can you cancel and rebook elsewhere? Cornwall and quiet don't go together in summer unfortunately.

Mounts Bay.

ButtCheeks · 23/06/2025 10:05

Come to Camborne 😂

But seriously, will you have a car? There are loads of little towns/villages on West Penwith that are quiet and lovely. St Just is my fave, and it’s a short drive to stunning Priest’s Cove for a swim in the tidal pool or just exploring the rock pools. I’ve never found it that busy in the summer.
Zennor is also nice.

HangingOver · 23/06/2025 10:06

Falmouth isn't too bad in high summer because most people are at the beach. Go to Wilder Kitchen for dinner it's banging.

It’s bad enough.

RedNine · 23/06/2025 10:11

Redruth is nice for a wander. People can be a bit sniffy about it but there's nice little shops, cafes and there was a very decent butcher in the high street. Sweet little cinema also.

Tehidy woods country park.

Quieter beach at Portreath.

Both a bit of a step away from Penzance.
