How did you sleep in last night’s heat?

I could barely sleep and feel groggy now. My teenage dc slept fine! How did you manage?

I slept surprisingly well - but then again, I had the fan on, was on top of the duvet and had taken 4 Amitriptyline which usually sends me to sleep quite quickly.

Felt the heat as soon as I woke up though and as soon as I came downstairs at 7am, the fan downstairs was turned on, even before the kettle.

I will have to try some of these tips. I can’t sleep with a fan on though. It distracts me too much.

I used to live in a Victorian terrace and pp is right that it was cool but my current house is a small modern terrace and it gets the sun all day long so we are boiling!

Badly. Head was hot, hair was sweaty.

Slept really well actually
It was 25 degrees in my room
Since I got the 1 tog duvet it's been so good
Can't sleep with a sheet but the 1 tog is thin enough I can still use it. So glad I got it

Had a terrible night but not really because of the heat. We have a fan on - normally I find the white noise quite soothing but last night was awake from 1am-3.30am listening to DH snoring. I needed painkillers for my knees but didn't want to get up to fetch them. Lesson learnt and will make sure they are by the bed tonight just in case.

SirChenjins · 20/06/2025 09:46

Absolutely fine. What heat?

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/06/2025 09:47

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 20/06/2025 09:21

I can’t sleep when it’s too hot.

I bought an aircon unit a few years ago and it’s the best purchase I’ve ever made. I slept really well last night.

This. Currently unwell with temperature so bad night but usually fine with unit on, set to around 15.

DeafLeppard · 20/06/2025 09:48

Fine. Thin sheet with blanket to hand in case it gets cold.

Boutonnière · 20/06/2025 09:52

We have a cotton duvet cover that we use, with no duvet inside, for these relatively rare very warm nights. Bedroom is north facing so doesn’t get the heat build up that the back bedroom or the loft conversion spare room get.

IdLikeABackMassage · 20/06/2025 09:52

Totally naked and alone.

Sounds like the start of a melodramitic poem 😆but was in fact very comfortable. I generally run cold but it was very warm upstairs last night.

If it was any hotter I'd have come down to the sofa.

Openthisdoor · 20/06/2025 09:54

Yeah not good - felt agitated all night and kept waking up. Feel almost hungover this morning.

boysmuminherts · 20/06/2025 09:54

Absolutely fine 😴

marshmallowfinder · 20/06/2025 09:55

Ceiling fan over bed. Bliss.

Mikart · 20/06/2025 09:57

Fine! Summer duvet on and windows open

AnnPerkins · 20/06/2025 10:01

We have windows and curtains closed all day and DH also covers the windows in foil blankets when it's really hot. We look like conspiracy theorists from the outside but indoors stays as cool as a cave.

We sleep under an empty duvet cover, it's just the right thickness for the coldest part of the night at the moment. I love sleeping with the fan on, I find the white noise really sleep-inducing. When it starts getting light I put my eye mask on which helps me sleep a bit later.

BeyondMyWits · 20/06/2025 10:01

Too hot here, had to have fan on (and earplugs). The dog is unhappy, keeps walking over and booping the fan with his nose - it is already on its highest setting.

Like a baby
I open all windows as soon as I get up,
Close blinds/curtains on sides of the house the sun will hit in the afternoon.
Cool shower before bed.
Fan goes on in my bedroom in the evening, and I leave bedroom windows open overnight.
Drink loads of water.

last proper heatwave we had I would dampen and freeze a thin sheet and hang over DDs window, the breeze coming through that was lovely! Her room is tiny and like a little oven!
You can put your pillowcases in the freezer too!

You don't sleep with the windows open 😱

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 20/06/2025 10:07

Fine. Windows open, ceiling fan on and a cooling blanket over me.

Ilovelowry · 20/06/2025 10:08

@Meadowmew sorry just seen you sleep with the bedroom windows open. Thought you meant you opened those in the morning!

FrenchandSaunders · 20/06/2025 10:12

Slept ok until about 5am then went downstairs as it's so hot upstairs.

Get an aircon unit. A decent one really makes a significant difference.

We’ve got shutters so can’t hang the hose out of the window plus the hose keeps falling out of the AC unit 😰

SpottedDonkey · 20/06/2025 18:39

Fine. I opened the upstairs windows fully at 9 pm to let the room cool down. It was much cooler by bedtime. Slept naked, no duvet (obv) or sheets.

I need to try the foil blankets! I took several with me on holiday several years ago and am so glad I did as I could cover the fully- glazed bedroom window which had the sun streaming in from the fully/ glazed domed ceiling 😰😰
It got to 36 degrees).

I’ll buy some foil blankets and put them behind the shutters for the summer

Barbadossunset · 20/06/2025 18:44

We slept in the garden on a blow up mattress.
It was lovely under the stars and hearing the birds at dawn.

The cooling blanket is what we use. I like its weight - a sheet isn’t heavy enough / and it does marginally cool you down

I was so tired last night that I fell asleep quite easily
