Lidl cinnamon bun - why didn’t I buy it???

I haven’t had one of these yet. For the past few visits they’ve really been calling, but I have ignored their beseeching.

Today it was way too hot to buy one, so I didn’t. And now I wish I had.

Can anyone reassure me that they aren’t all that, and I’m better off without one this evening?

The lemon buns are much nicer, but sadly very rare.

Ohhh, will def look out for those.

Baked goods are the business.

Sainsburys Cinnamon buns are lush. Not tried Lidl. Didn’t know they did them.

I've never seen those in my Lidl.
I got a chocolate hazelnut croissant yesterday - even better as it was my free bakery item 😋

AnneLovesGilbert · 16/06/2025 18:47

They’re not that good tbh. I had one a couple of weeks ago.

The best type of these buns is the M&S iced spiced bun. In a class of its own.

Sainsbury’s recommendation noted with thanks.

Sometimes these seem to get flattened in our Lidl. Today they looked spectacular! Excellent freebie scored there.

Aldi do a delicious iced lemon bun with lemon curd inside, it's yummy.

BeWarmTraybake · 16/06/2025 18:57

If it's any consolation, they're not amazing. They're okay, but I find they have way too little cinnamon. Didn't buy again after first time.

Now this is the verdict I needed to read, thanks.

(and I can still remember the first time I had the M&S iced spiced bun, at MIL’s a few years ago. I thought it was perfect in every way.)

@mixedpeel Make sure you get the loose ones from the bakery in Sainsbury’s, nothing pre packed.

Gonegrey31 · 16/06/2025 19:02

They are ultra processed though, something like 40 ingredients...(the Lidl ones)

Surroundedbyfools · 16/06/2025 19:04

I wouldn’t worry, it will prob be shit much like everything else in their bakery, every Lidl I’ve ever been in smells like damp rotten cardboard so eating anything left exposed in that shop is a hard no for me

This is the kind of specific feedback required - I think there must be a reason why I’ve repeatedly ignored their siren call.

You are completely correct about this. I had forgotten about those. I can’t decide whether I am pleased to be reminded about them or not but somehow I have never bought one for my bun-loving DD so I’m going to make her day

FlourishNotPerish · 17/06/2025 08:53

I only get them when they’re free. Agree, not enough cinnamon and too spongy. It’s annoying the free item has to be sweet. Their pizzas are better. I like the apple turnovers sometimes.

Monkeyfeets · 17/06/2025 08:54

They are really bland and gluey, you’re not missing anything. I would rather get a Portuguese tart from there.

Waitrose cinnamon buns are delicious.

Had one today. You’re not wrong! Glad they come in packs of two.

Glad that you enjoyed it, they also do a passionfruit flavour, its nowhere near as nice as the lemon one though.

Bjorkdidit · 22/06/2025 19:24

Their pastels de nata are lovely and half the price of everywhere else.

The new foccacia style ciabatta is also amazing, we made fabulous serranitos (spanish pork sandwiches with grilled green pepper, serrano ham and alioli) with ours and had to go back and buy more as we still had a load of pork steaks left.

mugglewump · 22/06/2025 19:29

The Lidl ones are delicious.

AtomicBlondeRose · 22/06/2025 19:29

They're not great but I do quite like them. I did have a Chelsea bun from Thomas the Baker the other day which looked a bit mid but was absolutely lovely and tasted like how I always want a cinnamon bun to taste (but never does).

I agree with the iced spiced buns too. One of the nicest things there is! Years ago Morrisons used to do an iced bun ring that was just lovely.

BadAmbassador · 22/06/2025 21:08

I had a chocolate cronut from Lidl yesterday. Oh my word it was good!
Tried the cinnamon buns once - very stodgy in my opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️

WhatTheShit · 22/06/2025 21:12

Pastel de Nata at Lidl are delicious

Cinnamon bun, you want to save up for a Gail’s. it’s made of croissant dough.

Mouldwarp · 22/06/2025 21:18

Are they loose in the bakery bit? I was pondering a donut when I watched a man last weekend picking up and putting back croissants with his hands and it’s put me right off 🤢 Which is probably a good thing given the size of my arse
