Anyone else starting C25k?

I started Couch to 5k today and wondered if anyone else was starting at a similar time and wanted to have a chat about how they are finding it?

I’ve never been able to go running and have tried C25k twice and have given up early on so going to try and persevere this time!

I really enjoyed my 1st run today (glad there wasn’t too much actual running!) even though it was warm and raining. When I got home I felt really good.

Planning to do my next tomorrow as I’ve got a busy weekend and am unlikely to get a chance to go out and run.

I'll join in, I did week 2 run 2 yesterday, so today is my rest day.
I've done C25K a couple of times in the past, so know I can do it. Week five really sorts the wheat from the chaff though- its a big step up (IYKYK)

Creu · 16/06/2025 16:42

Welcome @Oreosareawful. Great to have you join us!

I don’t think I’ve ever got as far as week 5, not because I couldn’t complete the previous weeks I just skipped a few runs and then fizzled out.

I need to look at week 5 (or not! 😂)

I’m just finished week 3 today.
I ran last night (outside) and because I will be busy the rest of week I ran again today but used treadmill in gym as kinder on the knees than pavement.. and the app says not to run 2 days in a row but hey ho I survived ! Week 4 next

I am persevering - week 6 run 1 was actually harder than week 5 I thought and I struggled a bit. But I’ve done it and I’m just trying to very very slowly increase the distance I go in 30 mins. I enjoy being outside but I hate running even a little bit uphill. Well done to you all, we are getting there slowly. I had hoped to lose a bit of weight but not an ounce have I lost…..

Haggisfish3 · 17/06/2025 23:02

Also here to offer encouragement! It took me
Nine months to complete it-I had to repeat loads of weeks to build up stamina and missed some for various reasons. But I got there! And I still can’t believe that I can run five km without stopping. I
have done several longer races and have signed up to an ultra!! But nothing will beat the absolute joy i felt when i
first ran a whole five km without stopping (took me about forty minutes I think).

Creu · 18/06/2025 17:41

An ultra?! 🤯 @Haggisfish3how do you feel training for that? Thanks for the encouragement!

@sproutsandparsnipsthst sounds really good, how far are you going in 30 mins at the moment?

@Lavachicken37woo hoo! How are you feeling about starting week 4?

popandchoc · 18/06/2025 17:51

@sproutsandparsnips i struggled a bit with week 6 run 1 too today. Managed to complete it though. Also was hoping to lose weight and nothing yet..

Creu · 18/06/2025 18:20

Well done @popandchoc!

Erm…🤣 I have done 20km and am like ‘meh it’s only three of those…’. I’ll give it a go. It’s not timed out so you could walk it in theory. I’m doing it with a charity called into ultra for people who have never done one before.

Creu · 18/06/2025 23:00

That’s really good @sproutsandparsnips. I’m definitely no where near that right now!

Haha! Only three of those…. Just three! Why not, eh?!

I did it 18months ago and it is one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I run multiple times a week and love it so much. Nothing clears my head like putting my running shoes and headphones on and just going. Keep going and remember everyone has shit runs even if you've been doing it for ages you still have times when nothing feels like it's going right, just put those ones behind you and go again because it's worth it for those perfect ones where you feel on top of the world.

Lavachicken37 · 20/06/2025 21:57

It’s been so hot this week I haven’t started week 4 yet. I’m hoping to get up early (ish) and get it done.

Creu · 22/06/2025 08:46

I’m really struggling to get out and run during my lunch break in this heat! I’m a SP so can’t go in the mornings or evenings.

Next week looks slightly cooler where I am

OP posts:
Creu · 23/06/2025 14:40

Finally finished week 1 (taken 2 weeks to get around to doing the three runs 😬).

Run today was do-able but in the heat it’s pretty bleak! Going to try and get out twice more this week.

How is everyone else getting on?

OP posts:
sproutsandparsnips · 23/06/2025 17:12

Ah @Creuthat sounds difficult in the heat, I am lucky and was able to run in the morning. I did week 7 run 1 today and managed to run for 25 mins and get further than before in 30 mins but it has broken me. I don’t know if I’ll manage the rest of the runs this week - my knee and hip are aching……

Creu · 23/06/2025 21:30

Oh no @sproutsandparsnips. How long have you been having trouble with your hips and knee? Wishing you a speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹

OP posts:
sproutsandparsnips · 23/06/2025 22:09

Thank you @Creu- only since starting C25K!
usually it’s just the knee is a bit swollen but been quite sore today and the hip and lower back are a bit stiff. Hoping I can run through it. I also swim quite a bit and it has made me a little bit more aware of my knee.
i am enjoying getting outside and finding new routes - ones I have walked but never run.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 24/06/2025 20:00

I’ve just done run 2 of week 5 and I’m so happy I managed it, I never thought I’d be able to run for 8 minutes without stopping! Think I’m gonna repeat this run on Thursday before moving on to run 3. How is everyone else getting on?

Lavachicken37 · 24/06/2025 22:39

One more run to do of week 4. Feeling nervous about week 5 as running for 8 mins.

I managed to get up early a few days and got runs in before it warms up. However it’s rain at the moment.

Diddlydays · 24/06/2025 22:52

Yes. Keep going
I run like a penguin and have the body of a seal 🦭 but I'm preserving. Which voice did you choose? I have Jo Wiley encouraging me. Before I started I honestly couldn't run even to the end of the road. I'm not completely unfit but running seemed harder than any other exercise I'd tried. My last run was 3 runs of 5 mins each and it was ok. I know this week (week 5) ends in a humdinger of a run but if I can do it I'm going to celebrate with prosecco and Ben and Jerry's

lostinthoughts · 24/06/2025 22:55

Hey can I join? I’m on week 4 run 2 of c25k and absolutely loving it. I’ve tried twice before and failed due to motivation waning. I have a beautiful route through local woods and a large open green area. I’m loving being out in the sun soaking up nature. I’m not so sure the winter months will be so inspiring

popandchoc · 25/06/2025 15:46

Well done to everyone, sounds like you are doing great.

I had a few days off last week but have finished off week 6. I am using strava and got my PB in the mile and 2 mile so pleased with that!

popandchoc · 29/06/2025 11:06

Did week 7 run 1 this morning, didn't fancy it when boiling and was sweating so much already!
Hope everyone's doing ok in the heat.
