Stuck in a bit of a dinner rut. Going shopping in the morning, and just making my list, so please chuck your ideas at me!

Judgy "my kids never moan/eat everything" people need not apply :D xx

Toad in the hole, mash and veg
Chicken katsu curry with rice and broccoli with sesame seeds
Sweet and sour prawns egg fried rice with extra veg
Any type of ramen

Mince and potatoes
fry up mince / onion / carrots / peas, add an oxtail soup mix, bring to boil and then let it simmer so it’s a nice stew / pie base type
Eat with mashed potatoes and use leftovers for a cottage pie for freezer
Yum!

mine eat pasta and sauce when we need a quick dinner.
Make your own pizzas
Really struggling with dinner ideas here too so shamelessly following along for ideas!

readingmakesmehappy · 12/06/2025 18:43

My kids moan and one of them has food issues related to SEN and medication.

I chop up veg sticks and chuck it at them while cooking dinner. They are usually more hungry then and will eat a fair amount before they get to the main event. But generally meals;

  • macaroni cheese
  • spagetti bolognese with all the veg I an possibly put in and blended
  • chicken fillet burgers with lettuce and tomatos
  • chicken and veg fried rice
  • tacos with all the trimmings- for some reason one of mine will eat guacamole but won't touch avocado in any other form
  • roast chicken or gammon with potatos and broccoli
  • jacket potatos but only with cheese and sour cream

These are the old reliable. We might branch out to more exciting things at the weekend like persian lamb plov or chicken with a dijon mustard cream sauce. But during the week when I have to get them fed I tend to stick to what I know they will eat.

Sausage roast (basically a roast dinner but sausages instead of other meat) you can make this as easy as you want with frozen yorkies, peas and maybe one other veg. Good for using up any leftover veg or buy carrots that are cheap. Make loads as it reheats quite well.

pesto pasta I hate it they loved it. Add a few peas near the end of cooking time. Stir in grated cheese or Philadelphia.

also tuna pasta just stir tuna and mayo in

add garlic bread to basic meals

MrsMAFs · 12/06/2025 22:37

Plain pasts, cold hot dogs from a jar then whatever veg alongside. Usually cucumber or brocoli in our house. Not the most nutritious but quick, easy and the meal that gets eaten the most in this house but DD doesn't eat much so the struggle is real.

Calliopespa · 12/06/2025 22:41

Pasta with a sauce made of jar of tomato sauce/can of tuna stirred in is one of my son's favourites. It's a go to if we need a quick meal or don't have any fresh shopping left.

troppibambini6 · 12/06/2025 22:51

DS happily eats (9/10 times, allowing for days when Nothing Is Right):
• cooled pesto pasta, with added chopped cucumber, peppers, feta cheese, and olives if we have them
• rice and dhal - a halved hard-boiled egg is a bonus
• simple mee goreng or mee hoon style noodles with chicken, broccoli, sweetcorn
• salmon, herbed new potatoes, broccoli
• buttered bagels or wraps with chicken ‘ham’, spinach leaves, and mustard
• chilli prawn linguine (or spaghetti, not bothered)
• baguette, cheap Brie, Cornichons, ham, olives, veg crudités, that sort of DIY spread

I was warned about this but I didn't really understand until recently. Now I feel like I need a second maternity leave just so that I have time to keep on top of the catering requirements 😨
