Stuck in a bit of a dinner rut. Going shopping in the morning, and just making my list, so please chuck your ideas at me!

Judgy "my kids never moan/eat everything" people need not apply :D xx

I LOVE this thread because there are so many normal meals here but still giving me ideas. So often I open these threads and about 5 posts in I feel like a failure because my fussy child wouldn’t even consider most of what’s been suggested. But I’ve got a few from here that I will add to the rotation!

Turkey curry and rice
Meatballs with tomato based sauce and spaghetti
Spag bol
Roast chicken and chips
Breaded chicken with baked potato
Turkey or beer chilli
And a new one has been chicken breasts sprinkled with that nandos seasoning and roasted, with chips and broccoli. A bit hit.

I was warned about this but I didn't really understand until recently. Now I feel like I need a second maternity leave just so that I have time to keep on top of the catering requirements 😨

It's cluster feeding all over again! With the added joys of costing a fortune.

I have two autistic picky eaters. The other day I had some success with a puff pastry pizza. Score around 1cm in from the edges of a puff pastry sheet, not cutting all the way through. Spread with passata or other pizza sauce. I added some pepper slices and sweetcorn but you could use anything you would put on a standard pizza. Then sprinkle with grayed cheddar or mozzarella and bake for 15-20 minutes. We had it with potato wedges and salad.

4 year old loves
bolanaise (anything with that kind of meat based sauce)
baked potato
omelette
chicken sausages

pasta bakes are great for throwing in lots of hidden veg

shed live off pesto pasta - so we made our own with blended roasted cauliflower in it and she loved it (she doesn’t know about the cauliflower haha)

veggie burgers and sweet potato cubes
Mac & cheese (again with blended up cauliflower in the sauce)

homemade pizza night

My two boys are really particular but in completely opposite ways which is so annoying.

But I had a recent win with making little fish cakes with chopped chives and cubes of oven roasted potatoes.

Steamed carrot can be blitzed in a blender with tomatoes ( Passata, tinned or fresh) to sweeten a pasta sauce without trace!

Trying not to repeat as some of our faves have already been mentioned but these are popular with my kids

Sausage pasta

Peruvian chicken

Garlic rice & prawns (I tend to simplify this one)

Also don’t have a particular recipe but also make these:
Meatloaf
Chicken Parmigiana
Fried rice

My dc7 is an amazing eater and will eat most things, my dc2 is extremely fussy at the moment so we have a strict rotation of meals that they will actually eat at least some element of (dc1 was the same at this age so I’m trying to just go with it and trust they will grow out of it like their sibling did!)

chicken Balti (with spinach and peppers chopped up small in the sauce) with plain rice and poppadoms.

salsa chicken- jar of mild salsa in slow cooker, with chicken breast and fajita seasoning (with onions and peppers chopped up small) served with rice and grated cheese

breakfast wraps- sausage patties, hash browns and cheese slices in a tortilla wrap or as a fake McMuffin. Served with baked beans

bolognese with pasta (manage to hide tons of veg blended up in the sauce)

chicken thighs (cooked in the oven with ‘chicken seasoning’) with golden veg rice, and salad for those who will eat it

slow cooked smoked gammon, with mash, peas and cheese sauce

hot dogs- nice quality sausages rather than frankfurters, with fried onions

frozen cod, chips and mushy peas

(and then other horrible upf stuff that I try to limit but realistically we eat more than we should- sausage and mash with veg, chicken nuggets/popcorn chicken, pizzas, southern fried chicken fillets etc)

Ddakji · 13/06/2025 16:04

Things that aren’t made by me usually go down well 🤣.

Pesto pasta
fresh tomato and mascarpone pasta sauce
Korma curry kit with chick peas and potatoes
jacket spuds
fish fingers

(we are mainly veggie)

egg fried rice

surprisingly, a sort of mushroom risotto made with grains rather than mushrooms has been a hit

Sassybooklover · 13/06/2025 16:21

My son is a good eater and isn't particularly fussy. His favourites are: macaroni cheese, tuna pasta bake, fish pie, toad in the hole, roast dinner, salmon fillets baked in the oven, meatballs & pasta, sir fry.
