This is a bedroom. Do I paint the down sloping bit green or white like the ceiling?

Another vote for white.

White

I was going to say white BUT is the ceiling textured? If so, I think I'd go green.

It is textured unfortunately yes. Why does that make a difference? Do you think it looks odd? I'm so rubbish at visualising

Unless you’re re-skimming the ceiling absolutely you want it green.

bringing in a third variation (untextured white) will look messy and disconnect.

DrNo007 · 12/06/2025 14:03

Same situation in our house and we had no choice but to go for white as the join between the flat ceiling and the slope was not exactly straight—yours is likely the same. Thus in white the non straight join isn’t visible as the slope and ceiling visually merge. In your house if you did the slope in green it will definitely showcase any non straight join. It was our decorator who cautioned us about that.

PlumpAndDeliciousFatcat · 12/06/2025 14:13

Green, but you will need to cut in very very carefully to get a sharp line next to the artex on the ceiling.

mybrainpills · 12/06/2025 14:26

White.

BertieBotts · 12/06/2025 14:28

I think green because it will be hard to exactly match the white of the ceiling and the texture of it looks like it matches the wall, not the ceiling, so it will look strange.

I can try and Photoshop it for you if my DC settle down.

BertieBotts · 12/06/2025 14:29

(can you put up a copy of the pic without the circle?)

OneLoudTiger · 12/06/2025 14:29

I’m torn OP! I think I would try white and then if it looks daft next to the textured ceiling, paint over with the green.

ShesTheAlbatross · 12/06/2025 14:29

I assume you’re not repainting the ceiling? I’d do green in that case, because the white won’t look the same as the ceiling if that’s the only bit you’re painting.

Francestein · 12/06/2025 14:31

Green on just that bit should actually make the room feel taller.

Cardamomandlemons · 12/06/2025 14:31

Light green? Like, mix a bit of the green paint with white paint. Maybe add stencil designs in the dark green?
(Of everything I've ever posted on mn, this is the thing I think is most likely to get me flamed. But I like the idea!)

thatsawhopperthatlemon · 12/06/2025 14:34

Paint it white. Then if it looks odd or you change your mind, you can go over it in green. Much easier to do it that way round than to try and cover up dark green paint with white.

Ketzele · 12/06/2025 15:08

Green. Because of the textual difference and because visually it will raise your ceiling. In fact, I might even take it further and extend a foot or so over the ceiling to give a canopy effect...

I’d do green as others have said. That way the smooth part is all green. It would be odd to have smooth green, smooth white, textured white imo.

Lifestooshort71 · 12/06/2025 15:13

I'd do it white as the green will loom over you and drag the ceiling down. Or be creative, white with the same green stencil of some description over it...a rain forest/jungle theme? (Sorry, having a sugar rush after cake 🎂 )

TheOneWithUnagi · 12/06/2025 15:17

Green
