£208 million euro millions

Loub1987 · 09/06/2025 18:39

1000s of discussions on Mumsnet about this but if you won what would you do?

I’d

  • quit my job
  • tell my best friend and give her £1mil
  • tell no one else
  • buy a medium - big house
  • charter a mega yatch for a family holiday

Call me old fashioned but I think this euro millions represents everything that is wrong with society. This kind of money appeals to the tick tock generation who want to copy lifestyles they see, on their phones. I'd donate it all to charity.

smallsilvercloud · 09/06/2025 19:16

If I won that amount I’d want to put to good causes, it would be more than me and by family would ever need. I’d be over the moon to win the one million raffle.

misspositivepants · 09/06/2025 19:19

Quit my job
sort my family out
buy a new house
invest for my children’s future
invest for my future
donate a awful lot to charities

I think they should split the prize more £208 million is just an insane amount of money really. Change 208 peoples lives.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 09/06/2025 19:23

I've given this some thought...
I'd put c.£100m to one side to work with an engineering department of a British university to develop the world's fastest steam locomotive. (Mallard holds the record from 1938 - there have been a lot of technological advances since then.)
I'd also put 500k into the local church in order to get the organ fully rebuilt/restored and relocated into a better position in the church.
And yes - quit the job and move house 🤣

YodasHairyButt · 09/06/2025 19:25

Pay off all my family’s mortgages. Buy myself a nice house I can live in til I’m old. Invest enough to give me a comfortable income. Donate the rest to charity, no one person needs that much money.

HappiestSleeping · 09/06/2025 19:25

I wouldn't worry @Loub1987 as I have purchased the winning ticket.

I hope.

I wouldn't tell a soul. My business would suddenly become wildly successful which is how we suddenly 'got rich' DH would retire and build an arcade.

I would buy a modest house a bit bigger then this one on the same street but a four bed with a bigger garden.

Probably 10-20mil would go into a trust for kids. Ds is disabled so I would want him to live well for the rest of his life.

I would start a design company that employs under qualified people and train them which would 'rescue' buildings and plots of land and build beautiful eco houses and green spaces. In fact a whole eco village where ds could work and live.

Probably start a small charity for the above.

I would find ways to donate chunks of money to family and friends.

I would have a personal cook and trainer so I could get fitter.

CatsWee · 09/06/2025 19:27

Fund lots of environmental research projects and rewilding.

Quit my job and spend my days checking out my projects and have lots of dogs.

occasional yoga retreat/massage

Move to the seaside in the UK
buy a flat somewhere swanky in London
Spend the winters abroad
Set kids up with houses and income
Help siblings out
Contribute to some good causes
Pay Godsons’ uni debt

That’ll do to start with

Rockmehardplace · 09/06/2025 19:34

Open a very small school for children with severe autism/LD, hire the best most dedicated staff and have an adjoining areas for sleepovers to give parents respite.

MalcolmMoo · 09/06/2025 19:36

I’d probably only buy a modest house. Don’t need loads. Also quit my job but to run a charity with the money.

PennywisePoundFoolish · 09/06/2025 19:39

Quit my job with no notice
Tell DH he can quit his business
Buy a big house
Arrange fantastic EOTIS packages for DS1, DS3 and DS4 myself and never have to deal with my LA ever again
Buy DS2 a place for university
Set up some kind of charity to fund assessments for EHCPs in my LA
Get another dog
Go on holiday

WilfredsPies · 09/06/2025 19:39

This is a discussion I force DH to have with me on a regular basis. I would like a small holding. Large enough for me to have a house of my own design, a couple of cottages for family, a walled vegetable garden, some formal gardens with loads of architectural salvage dotted about and some animals, with a housekeeper/cook and a gardener/animal mucker outerer. I’d like somewhere right by the sea and an apartment in Shad Thames. And for friends and family to be helped out (we have a lot of friends and family).

The rest we’d split 50/50 and donate to whichever charities or good causes we saw. DH is a sucker for a sob story, so would probably give his half away after ten minutes looking through ‘Go Fund Me’ accounts.

minsmum · 09/06/2025 19:39

I would pay off everyone's mortgage, donate 10. million to Ukraine then invest some for my children, buy a new house. Then look at various charities,.small local ones and decide.which ones to support, if needed I would look at giving.Ukraine more money. For me lots of dogs

katscamel · 09/06/2025 19:40

Sort out dad's health issues as much as possible.... specialists etc, medical insurance for family, gifts for friends....those who have played an important role in my life, rental properties at affordable rates with the money going to to womens refuge / homeless charities. Scholarships for college/uni study for women who haven't had the opportunities I've had, various other charity donations, overseas apartment .... havent decided where, house for parents with cleaning staff ,gardener and driver.

LindorDoubleChoc · 09/06/2025 19:41

Keep 1 million and give 207 million away.

NeedForSpeed · 09/06/2025 19:42

The usual.

Square away family and close friends.

Then I'd buy up as many properties as possible in my home town and create my own housing association for locals only (per the legal definition) because it's a second home paradise. The plan would be for this to be a rent to buy scheme, with all tenants owning their home in time and the money from rent going back into the coffers to buy more homes. No, I don't know the full logistics but I'd pay bright lawyers to work it out 😂

Pay off a whole year's worth of student fees for all students at my alma mater. If I can afford it, I'll pay off all their fees and student loans. If not, then it's a one time prize and a massive donation to the student support fund.

Then me and the dog are moving abroad to somewhere cold (she's a husky cross). I will learn to ski, enjoy plenty of apres ski, raclette and tartiflette, and get my teeth fixed. The husband hates the cold so will prop up a bar on a Caribbean Island. We'll meet up somewhere along the way!

Otherwise, I've never considered it...

Exhaustedtiredneedabreak · 09/06/2025 19:44

I love this game. I'd pay off the mortgage, quite my job. Set up really good funds for the kids. Get them out of the school their in now and send them somewhere they get support foe their needs. Pay off the mortgages of friends that need it, have good holidays and give money to good charities, especially dog shelters and domestic abuse support.

amymel2016 · 09/06/2025 19:44

Quit my job and set up a charity helping women in all different ways
Pay off mortgage
Get a new kitchen
Give my Mum, Sisters, PIL and BIL £5m each
Put £25m each in trust for my DSs (I would want to try and live in such a way that they don’t know we have this amount of money)
Go to London for the weekend, stay in a suite at The Langham and buy everything and anything in Chanel that would fit me 😂 (read - bags, shoes and jewellery)

not that I’ve thought about it…..

I think you should get it

Lolly34h · 09/06/2025 19:44

I’d give all the girls I work with enough to quit! Then there’s couple of people I would help out. I’d put money in trust for my dearly departed best friends children and their aunt. I’d set my own kids up with businesses and property to live in. And I would spend a year travelling the world with my kids!

CandiedPrincess · 09/06/2025 19:45

Oh I dream about this all the time!

I'd buy a gorgeous property, probably in Cornwall - doesn't have to be big but just something WOW.

I'd obviously give up work but having the money would enable me to pursue other passions and interests.

I'd give some to my favourite charities - some local small ones and the RNLI and Air Ambulance mainly.

I'd set up my kids for life - but they'd be drip-fed money as I still want them to work in some capacity!

I'd help out other people in my life - not necessarily family but closer friends and even a work colleague who I know would massively benefit.

I would travel, a lot.

flowerpink · 09/06/2025 19:48

Buy a few houses here and elsewhere, obviously quit my job, a yacht sounds good. I honestly wouldn't know what to do with that much money, why does 1 person need 208 mil I wish they'd split it down and have more winners!

Ilovemyshed · 09/06/2025 19:48

Quit my job
Buy a new car
Finish essential jobs in the house
Buy a new house on a private plot but not too big.
Travel.
Thats me and OH sorted.

Family and friends would all get some nice sums to settle their mortgages and things.

The rest would be a big fund of money into a charity to assist needy local causes and small sports clubs, youth services, support the community bus service, DIY SOS type fixes and so on. I would have such fun doing it too!
