£208 million euro millions

1000s of discussions on Mumsnet about this but if you won what would you do?

I’d

  • quit my job
  • tell my best friend and give her £1mil
  • tell no one else
  • buy a medium - big house
  • charter a mega yatch for a family holiday

I would buy a slightly bigger house nearby but with a direct seaview.
I'd book a very nice holiday
I'd give at least a million to each of my nearest and dearest, set up trust for nieces etc.
I'd get a second car so we didn't have to share anymore.
I'd tell DH to buy whatever bicycle he wants.
I'd employ a personal trainer, a gardener to do all the maintenance and weeding and a cleaner.

Then I'd build a state of the art women's centre in my local town, it would have childcare provision, healthcare, mental health specialists, domestic and sexual abuse support. It would have an attached refuge and also move on accommodation, with housing support for residents and just service users. It would have educational courses, and social groups. I'd set up an outreach programme to run alongside. I would hold focus groups with some of the most vulnerable local women to ask what they wanted and needed.
I'd quit my job to run it and employ the best professionals I know (I work in criminal justice/safeguarding/social care type area) on decent salaries with good pensions that reflect the value of the work they do.

I like your list. Not crazy outrageous and kind.

Also, glad to see DH hasn’t been forgotten and gets his bicycle! 😁

To be honest I think it's a sickening amount of money to give to a single person. The amount of food that money could be used for is unbelievable. I hope whoever wins does some good with it.

BiscuitBotherer · 09/06/2025 20:42

Oh, I’ve thought about this lots.

I would endow my local university with an enormous fund to provide grants to young people from economically deprived areas who want to enter the arts and humanities. Pay off the student loans for some of the youngsters I know, so that they can be debt free to start out.

Various organisations like Hope Not Hate, Led By Donkeys, Amnesty, MSF, Shelter, would all get a hefty wedge. Then a large donation to the friendless churches fund - they look after abandoned and neglected churches here in the UK. Ideally, I’d get a foundation set up to manage the donations.

I’d buy a house locally for myself and DD, with some land and its own fresh water supply, so we can have horses, dogs, cats and chickens, and a wildflower meadow. And beehives! And a wood to build dens. Then I’d buy a house in Bristol, cos I bloody love it there, and a flat in London that we could use when we visited to go to the museums and see shows, and which family and friends could stay in too.

A wedge to the local PTAs of the various primary schools in the area.

Pay off my friends’ various mortgages, and a big holiday for all of us and partners and kids, somewhere sandy and hot.

And then I’d travel the world with DD, giving her all the experiences I’d always longed for but never had.

It’s an obscene amount of money. Ideally I’d be attempting to give most of it away.

Fiver555 · 09/06/2025 20:45

I would resign from work immediately, but just say that my DH had inherited some money that enables us to retire.

Then I'd donate anonymously to various local places that are struggling to raise money, i.e., our local and very beautiful church spire is crumbling and needs £50k to sort it and despite us living in an incredibly wealthy part of the southeast, none of the local yacht owners seem to want to put their hands in their pockets. There is also a charity to help teenagers/young people who find themselves estranged from family with no support and the charity is constantly struggling, having jumble sales etc to try and raise money.

Then while working my notice at work, I'd plan. New house, new car. Tutors to help dc through college. A fab holiday or two.

Buy a house for dh's mum who rents. Employ a housekeeper for her, and maybe one for me. Pay the housekeeper(s) extremely well.

Possibly have a lower face lift. 😂

Nowheretobeseen · 09/06/2025 20:46

Build a nice house where I am and a couple abroad
Go on a beach holiday somewhere like the Seychelles with DH
Give some to close family members
Set up animal sanctuaries
Give to charity
Put some away for when my kids are 18
Take DH and kids travelling
Get a personal chef, trainer etc

IsItTheBlackOneOrTheRedOne · 09/06/2025 20:47

I would heave a huge sigh of relief that I’m not going to be working until I’m dead. Travel. Give a lot away to ppl I love and causes that I care about.

But mostly the big sigh and a nice wee house 🙏

QforCucumber · 09/06/2025 20:49

We’ve spoken about this before - I truly believe they should make 208 people millionaires and change that many lives somehow rather than just one

TomorrowPenny · 09/06/2025 20:49

I've thought about this. Not that I buy a ticket very often.

I'd quit work (this would not be a difficult decision), never to return. The usual stuff, move house, not necessarily bigger, just detached, and look after my family.

I'd then set up a provision (anonymously) to help secondary school kids in my locality with their mental health, a building located centrally between three secondary schools with a resident psychiatrist or two, in house counselling services, assessments, the whole job lot, a one stop shop for all the kids who CAHMS are failing because the system hasn't changed for decades.

I'd give quite a lot away, can't imagine that me and my nearest and dearest would need more than the £12m for the rest our our days between us.

Hels20 · 09/06/2025 20:50

V similar to me! I would want to buy houses for TAs in my local area, donate monies to local schools and give a lot to Coram and fostering.

ssd · 09/06/2025 20:50

I'd stay in every posh hotel ive passed looking wistfully at the doorman whilst i try to find my travelodge...

retiredpickme · 09/06/2025 20:56

I would love to quit my job and open something in my local area for disabled children and their carers, like a centre that offers groups, free therapy and support, respite etc.

Loub1987 · 09/06/2025 20:57

Danikm151 · 09/06/2025 20:12

Withdraw £10k in cash so i could throw it up in the air and roll around 😂

Loving reading all the answers after a bad day but this is my favourite!

Thanks everyone, loved all the dreams! Although obviously I’m going to win…..

OP posts:
carly2803 · 09/06/2025 21:07

i love this game (and also juts bought a ticket thanks!)

I would buy a lovely new car (not brand new - just new to me)!

Bigger house with land around, so i can have more dogs. But must have an annex / space to build so my parents can live next to me mortgage free and never pay another bill

put 25 mil each away for the kids

donate the rest

i would honestly keep working, but do a lot of charity work that is connected to my profession to help others

Dashel · 09/06/2025 21:07

I would resign in a few weeks time as would DH
I have a few small charities I’m passionate about so I would talk to them about what they would do with a windfall. One in particular is a local small hedgehog rescue so even just 100k would probably save a lot of hedgehogs and it’s frightening how little 100k would be out of £200m

I would be looking to give away around £200m of it to charity or speak to someone who could safely use it to create income for charities.

I would buy a secret second home abroad - something small but with a pool and detached but doesn’t scream millionaire and I would probably travel and employ a pet butler for a few years so my pets would be well looked after if I wasn’t around. I would also replace our cars eventually with something new but like a Golf so not screaming millionaire.

DH would probably like to learn to be a pilot and I would help in an animal shelter and foster animals in need.

mumda · 09/06/2025 21:11

Give money to a charity I volunteer with.. then a big chunk to sex matters and then free speech union.
I'd support some smaller local organisations.

Then buy me a nice house with a bit of land and maybe a swimming pool. Family would get something good too.

There'd be so much left I could spend the rest of my life ensuring it was used well.

Vitrolinsanity · 09/06/2025 21:12

It’s just too big. I’d totally lose my shit.

I think I’d spend many days just looking at it, going fuck me. I mean actually fuck me!!!!!!

As people always say, money can’t buy happiness but wouldn’t it be fucking amazing to find out just how unhappy you could be?

IOnlyWantSexMoneyPowerAndRevenge · 09/06/2025 21:12

We'd pay for some private health care for my husband. I dont think it would make a difference but it would be nice to have the option. Let's say £50,000 maybe?

I would quit my job and sign up to a specific course with a view to making it a career without worrying about whether it would actually pay the bills. Hint- it almost certainly wouldnt. Maybe £1,000 for the course and materials.

I'd give my family some money and pay for a couple of house adaptations my parents need. I wouldnt tell them how much Id won though. £10m?

There are a couple of local causes Id like to donate to. Maybe £500k?

Id also like to fund some sort of pastoral support at my children's schools. I dont know how that would work though. £who knows!

I would buy a slightly bigger house (only a 3, maybe 4 bed with a nice garden so nothing ostentatious). £500k max

Id put a big chunk away for my children for the future (but not tell them).

Id probably give myself the wage Im on now to avoid spending it all.

Id hire a personal trainer and we'd exercise in my nice garden a few times a week. £500 a month?

Id also hire a cleaner. £100 a month

I'd go to Iceland (the country!) and not worry (too much) about the budget.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 09/06/2025 19:12

Call me old fashioned but I think this euro millions represents everything that is wrong with society. This kind of money appeals to the tick tock generation who want to copy lifestyles they see, on their phones. I'd donate it all to charity.

I agree.
I will never understand this level of greed. Much better 208 people win a million each.

Cyclingandrunning · 09/06/2025 21:15

I wouldn't do very much to start with. 208 million is a kidnap risk so I'd have to do a plan.

I would tell family and friends that I have won 2.5 million when I gift them money to pay off mortgages etc.

We love where we live, so probably wouldn't move! We would give lots of the money away to charities etc.

I would buy small homes around the world and visit often.

Dh said we would definately splash out on flexiplus for the eurotunnel when we travel to france. He doesn't want to fly as he prefers the road trip!

I definately would hand my notice and walk away from my stressful job. That would be so lovely.

I would need a meaningful way to live my life, I would definately volunteer to work with vulnerable people.

Theblessedchild · 09/06/2025 21:18

Ooh this is fun.

Me and dh would quit our jobs.
Buy the perfect house.
Plenty in savings for the kids.
Help out family and friends.
And invest heavily into out hometown (the council has no money so any developments for the kids/teens in this town is never happening)
Invest heavily into the local schools (again, they have no money)

I might buy a ticket lol

MadameWombat · 09/06/2025 21:18

Start a charity funding Dolly Parton books and small grants for my local area.

patchysmum · 09/06/2025 21:25

I would buy a house on the beach somewhere hot, give my son's 10 million each and my best friend a million.Donate a few million to Marie Curie .Go on a cruise around the world and buy a nice car and employ a personal chaufer

CeraUnaVolta · 09/06/2025 21:28

I’d allocate £100 million for charitable donations and funds.
With the other £108 million, I’d give various different amounts to family and friends.
I would buy myself homes in various parts of the world that I love so that I could split my life between my favourite places.
I would start up a couple of businesses that I’ve dreamed about but can’t afford to do without a lottery win.
A lot of people say the jackpot is far too much but I would love to be able to give loads of it away.

AnneElliott · 09/06/2025 21:30

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 09/06/2025 19:23

I've given this some thought...
I'd put c.£100m to one side to work with an engineering department of a British university to develop the world's fastest steam locomotive. (Mallard holds the record from 1938 - there have been a lot of technological advances since then.)
I'd also put 500k into the local church in order to get the organ fully rebuilt/restored and relocated into a better position in the church.
And yes - quit the job and move house 🤣

The mallard option sounds like something my DS would love to do.
