An olive tree, a case of my favourite wine, Tate membership, a trip to Rome, and a very old chaise longue re-upholstered.

Why you not feeling good about it? Do you feel like it’ll be a let down?

@Berlinlover , all best wishes for you. My DH would feel the same about his 60th if he were still around. He lasted 7 years and most of them we lived 'normal' lives.
Embarrassingly, I can't remember any specific presents from my 50th. We probably went out to dinner, locally. I did go to Paris a few weeks before with my bestie from university. It was her big birthday that year too and the trip was her idea. We had an amazing time seeing parts of Paris I hadn't visited and eating fabulous food.
My DH and DDs joined me after she left. It was the DDs' first time in Paris and DH and I marked our 20th anniversary with a delicious Parisian meal.
40th - Trip to Venice for our 10th anniversary (wedding date is two weeks before birthday)
30th - On honeymoon in Sorrento and in Pompeii (a dream come true) for the day.

I got a huge print I had been hankering after for ages. I love it.

A gold necklace from DH that I'm still wearing 12 years later.

Best friend bought tickets to see Billy Joel (not the recent cancelled tour).

Another friend paid for a night at the Grand in Brighton.

Massive party. Excellent birthday. Would recommend.

I had a trip to NY with some old school friends (who were also turning 50). Was glorious.

I’ll be going on safari. Got ages yet though!

Not trying to be a pain in the arse but I have a cancer with a very poor prognosis and if I’m still here when I turn 50 next year I’ll be very happy.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope things go better than you think and you get to celebrate 50 and beyond. To be honest that puts it into perspective.

I've just been feeling a bit sorry for myself, but know I have a lot to be grateful for. I just wonder how I got to 50 sometimes!

I'd like something I can keep, so will look for jewellry I think. We're going on holiday a week after so also have that to look forward to on the 'experiences' side 😀

Thanks for ideas all

DH got me a necklace for mine, but I would also have liked a piece of original art. I like stuff I can keep.

Devastated999 · 26/05/2025 18:08

I’d get a good quality (expensive)version of whatever you enjoy, e.g. birdbath, water feature, art supplies, bags, apple watch, artwork.

Bologneselove · 26/05/2025 18:08

It’s my 50th in October next year. We’re thinking of buying a big rhino greenhouse but it’s ver expensive so might splurge as an early big birthday pressie.

Swimmum1206 · 26/05/2025 18:25

I turned 50 last October. I was adamant I didn't want anything special, but DH had other ideas!

He took me shopping treated me to incredibly expensive solid silver necklace and earrings set, organised and paid for dinner out with 15 of our friends and took me to Krakow for a week. We were meant to go there in 2020, but obviously that was cancelled due to COVID. This time, he paid for a 5 star hotel, and booked the best restaurant each night out of the tourist areas.

Although I hadn't wanted any major celebrations, I was spoilt rotten and had an amazing time. Oh and DS even remembered to FaceTime from uni first thing in the morning!

That sounds amazing. I think it's the thoughtfulness of that that's so special, more than anything.

If I said I didn't want a fuss, dp would be happy and do very little!
