How much do you pay monthly for water?

Bs9123 · 19/05/2025 11:27

3 bed house, 2 adults and 1 year old
2 showers / day (5-10 mins long)
1 very shallow bath every other day
dishwasher 2-3 times / week (quick cycle)
washing machine once per day (1hr cycle)

we’ve had our 6 monthly bill through for £90 a month going forward. Is that the norm for most households or do we have a leak/use lots of water? Currently paying £70 a month…

Water meter, just me with one bathroom. One or two loads of washing a week. £15 per month, and I'm in credit.

I'm with Dwr Cymru, which is a not-for-profit water company, so that may play a part.

AnotherExpatKiwi · 19/05/2025 16:13

Mine (Southern Water) has gone from £60 a month to £100. 3 adult household, daily showers, occasional bath, a load of washing a day (we do a lot of sports). On a meter.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 19/05/2025 16:21

I bed flat one occupant 2 loads of washing per week, 11 minute shower most days

Scotland where water is not privatised and it is added as a separate charge on your council tax bill.

I pay £185 for water and £215 for waste water per year meaning my total charge is £400 a year or £33 a month.

YetAnotherNewUserMoniker · 19/05/2025 16:26

Water metre, 5 beds, 2 adults, 3 teens, one 9yo. 4-5 showers per day (2 very long!), two washing machine loads per day, same for dishwasher. Rarely water garden. Going up to £82 per
month from £47 which I really need to contact them about as we are in surplus and it should not have gone up that amount even with increases!

SabreIsMyFave · 19/05/2025 16:26

£55 a month. Severn Trent! Just me and DH. Small 2 bed cottage.

It's a rural/affluent/middle class area. So I think that's maybe the reason it's a bit pricey! Severn Trent is known for being one of the most expensive for the water bill though! It went up over 40% in 2024! 😱

WeylandYutani · 19/05/2025 16:30

I just paid £99 for 6 months. Is just me and I am on a meter.

OnyourbarksGSG · 19/05/2025 16:30

2 bed 2up/2 down, think traditional miners cottage in the north west. £37 a month all in and that includes running a fish tank, watering my greenhouse plants and house plants and 3 deep baths a week.

EachFallenRobin · 19/05/2025 16:36

£10 a month. 1 adult in 2 bed house, water meter, daily bath, average 3 wash loads a week. On Northumbria Water's social tariff, which is gives me a 50% reduction.

MaisyMary77 · 19/05/2025 16:49

It’s just gone up to £135 a month. Thames Water. Metered. 4 adults in a 5 bed house.

Dogaredabomb · 19/05/2025 16:55

£109 pm 2 bed semi 2 adults 9 showers, 1 bath pw. Dishwasher and washing machine every other day on eco setting and I use bath water to water the garden and save anything in a jug for the toilet. We're really super conscious and try really hard. We're finally getting a meter next month. Yorkshire water and severn trent mixed supply.

Dogaredabomb · 19/05/2025 16:58

ToBeOrNotToBee · 19/05/2025 12:41

1 adult in a 1 bed flat.
No meter as can't install one.
£50 a month.
Yes Thames Water are robbing bustards.

If they are unable to install one they have to give you a lower rate.

4kids3pets · 19/05/2025 17:00

Zero pounds a month it's included in our £450 rent for a 3 bed house

Is that on a meter? I'm Severn Trent too and for single occupant one bed flat on meter mine has just gone up from £19 to £21 per month. I had feared more increase. Maybe you'd be better off on a meter if not already.

RachelshouldhavegonetoParis · 19/05/2025 17:03

2 bed flat, 2 adults and 20 year old DD when not at uni. We pay £65 a month unmetered.

That is the lower rate

Danikm151 · 19/05/2025 17:09

£18 a month. Big difference scheme with severn trent so i have a water meter but it’s a fixed value each month.

Limeandsoda2023 · 19/05/2025 17:11

£28 per month here in London on a water meter. Myself and late teen DD so 2 x showers daily and washing machine (eco setting) on (almost) daily since she does a lot of sport.

Takeoutyourcow · 19/05/2025 17:22

United Utilities. Water meter - £56 a month but always in credit. Two adults and two teens who seem to spend ages in the shower. Dishwasher run every day. At least 10 loads of washing a week.

Seawolves · 19/05/2025 17:31

Me and a 5 year old in a 2 bed, metered supply £23 a month, shower used at least once a day and one deep bath a day, washing machine used most days, dishwasher used 3-4 times a week.

minnienono · 19/05/2025 17:38

£45, so cheap compared to when kids were here!

JohnTheRevelator · 19/05/2025 17:38

I'm with Thames Water. I live alone,2 bedroom flat, and pay £70 per month, which I think is outrageous! Mainly because up until March this year,it was £50 per month. It's always increased, but only by about 5 or 6 quid a year. I'm seriously considering getting a water meter.

MrsCarson · 19/05/2025 17:49

3 bed 2 bath house.
Usually 3 adults.
2 showers a day
One load of laundry daily,
Dishwasher on once a day (sometimes misses a day)
Ours just went up to $60 a month

supercalifragilistic123 · 19/05/2025 17:54

Ours has just gone up to £69 a month metered. Family of four. Small 2 bed with very little garden.
I don't think we're high users I think it's just got very expensive.
