Do you wear your wedding ring?

Chatting with some mums at a match at the weekend, and I horrified them! I mentioned I hadn't worn my wedding ring since basically when I was pregnant with DC2 who is now 13. One was adamant I should get it resized asap.

I've started a new job in an office and noticed that all the women wear jewellery and I don't.

Do you wear your wedding ring? Do you think it strange if someone doesn't?

What about wearing another ring on the ring finger? I've a couple which I used to wear on index or middle finger when I was (a lot) younger which would now fit my ring finger.

Yes, wedding and engagement rings. It’s been 17 years and I very rarely take them off. Wore them through pregnancy and birth. Only ever really taken off for surgery or scans (I have a CT scan today and took me about 20 minutes to even get it off 😂).

What’s the point of having something if you don’t love it and enjoy it? My rings are both bespoke and I designed them myself (and then Dh bought them) and I love them as much as the day I first saw them.

I wear mine all the time - just looking at it now it's platinum and needs a clean. Married 14 years.

Wear my engagement ring once in a blue moon - I'm not really a rings person....

elusiveemz · 19/05/2025 09:38

I've been married almost 5 years and I have never taken my ring off.

I’ve never taken mine off, in over 30 years.

i totally get some people not wanting one, or hating the symbolism or whatever, but if you actually bought a ring I don’t see why you would then choose not to wear it

MellowPinkDeer · 19/05/2025 09:44

Yes always. It’s really gorgeous and sparkly I enjoy looking at it!

2chocolateoranges · 19/05/2025 10:35

I hadn’t worn my wedding ring for numerous years as it was too small, though still wore engagement and eternity rings however I’ve just had my rings resized for our wedding anniversary and I’ve got them all on now .

PurpleChrayn · 19/05/2025 10:36

No - it doesn’t fit Blush

pearhale · 19/05/2025 10:46

I've never worn my wedding ring except on my wedding day. I had specific reasons I didn't want certain people knowing my marital status. I quite like the fact I can keep it hidden.

I tend to notice other women's engagement rings out of nosiness, we live in a wealthy part of London and you see some huge rocks!

MiloMinderbinder925 · 19/05/2025 10:49

I don't like wearing rings for hygiene reasons.

Chicken5ausage · 19/05/2025 10:51

@pearhale why bother exchanging rings in the first place if you removed it the next day and never wore it again?

Yatuway · 19/05/2025 10:53

Yes. I like jewellery, enjoy shiny things on both me and others and wear other items too.

I don't think it's odd if a married person doesn't though. My DF never has because he doesn't like rings, and DM didn't for ages when hers got too small for her because she never got round to getting it altered.

uglysexy · 19/05/2025 10:55

no, been married nearly 40 years, I just cannot get on with rings, they are so annoying, I have tried a few times to wear one but the longest I lasted was a month, I took it off and it was such a relief😁

TossedSaladandScramblyEggs · 19/05/2025 10:56

I wear both my rings all of the time (unless I'm having hand pain and swelling which means I want to take them off in fear of them needing cut off) because otherwise what's the point in having them in the first place?

Ihaveoflate · 19/05/2025 10:56

I took my wedding ring off when my husband had an affair and never put it back on. We did actually stay together but the ring is meaningless now. I wear my eternity ring on its own instead as it's a lovely piece of jewellery and I designed it myself, but it has no sentimental meaning.

My DH on the other hand has never once taken his off (didn't mean a thing, clearly). My mother has been widowed ten years and has a new partner but still wears all her rings. I think it's just habit.

DramaAlpaca · 19/05/2025 10:59

No, not at the moment. I took it off recently (with difficulty) because I was having a scan and couldn't wear jewellery, then couldn't get it back on again as my fingers are a bit arthritic and swollen. Married 35 years. I might get around to having it adjusted, but I do usually wear another ring on that finger as it feels odd not to.

Yatuway · 19/05/2025 11:10

If neither the meaning attached to it nor the enjoyment of the piece of jewellery motivate you to wear a wedding ring, I think it depends on whether you want it to be visible that you're married or not.

As an example, I have never looked my age, and was engaged plus working in quite a serious environment in my very early 20s. I liked the idea of having a visible sign of having done something grown up, felt it helped me be taken more seriously at a time when I felt sensitive about being seen as mature enough for the job. Or there are times when a person might find it useful to be seen as unavailable. But it doesn't sound like either of those really apply to OP?

SJM1988 · 19/05/2025 11:15

Mine doesn't fit so I don't but I did buy a cheap version of my engagement ring to wear still something.
Only reason I haven't resized it yet (3ish years) is I'm slowly losing weight so want to see of they refit before I get them resized.

NewtonsCradle · 19/05/2025 11:19

My wedding ring and engagement ring don't fit together so I just wear my engagement ring because it's the the prettier one.

finallyskinny · 19/05/2025 11:36

not worn mine since February as I've lost 3 and a half stone so its to big! dont think DHs even noticed

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 19/05/2025 11:48

No, they are too big now, i'll wait until i'm happier with my weight then get them resized.
They also don't fit together so i need to ask the jeweller about that.

garlictwist · 19/05/2025 11:59

Very rarely. I hate wearing jewellery, especially rings which I just don’t like the feel of.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 19/05/2025 12:00

I took my engagement ring off as I work in healthcare, my wedding ring is now off because I have inflammatory arthritis and I don’t want to have to cut it off. Doesn’t make me any less married.

GameOfJones · 19/05/2025 12:05

All the time, I never take my rings off (engagement, wedding ring and eternity ring). But I like jewellery and also constantly wear a simple gold chain necklace and stud earrings including in bed and the shower.

I don't think I'd notice whether someone else was wearing a wedding ring or not.

LurcherMumma · 19/05/2025 12:06

I like wearing mine but I can guarantee if I take it off (eg for some messy hands on cooking) I will forget it for a few days. I put it on my chain when fingers swollen.
It wouldn't strike me as strange if someone I knew was married wasn't wearing one. Tbh I'd not notice. Also wouldn't be bothered if someone told me they'd prefer to keep theirs at home safe.

Mine's a snug fit and I am forgetful so it's safest on my finger.

Daniki · 19/05/2025 12:08

No i dont wear mine, it hasnt fit since early last year when started meds for IVF. Doesn't bother me that much as i found i was getting dermatitis when wearing it. Only time actually it bothers me is if I'm attending a wedding or an occasion and i cant put it on just to jazz myself up!
