Good Morning Everyone! What's everyone up to today?

lucysmam · 17/05/2025 08:58

I'm just finishing my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The kittens have been fed & dd2's already been down for a chat! I've put the washer on for the first load so need to empty yesterday's out of the basket shortly so today's can go on the line.

I'm off out for cocktails and lunch for a friend's birthday today; am just looking for the motivation to hem the other leg of the trousers I want to wear 🙈. I had started them yesterday but then got called away & didn't sit down until almost 9pm. We're not meeting til this afternoon, so plenty of time to sort them.

I'll shower in a little while, & put on some make up/nice jewellery that's a bit dressier than usual.

Dd1's working later - she needs to get up & sorted soonish. She won't be finished until late - probably after I'm home and in bed.

Dd2's staying here with dad. She's having a bit of a rough time at the minute, & I did ask her if she wants me to stay but she said no. She's planning a slow day on the sofa with 9-1-1 & her homework. I can always come back early if she changes her mind.

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning, I promised I would paint out spare room today and now I really cannot be bothered.

Both the kids have swimming in about an hour, so after that we’ll likely stay in town and have lunch out. But we haven’t really made any plans for this weekend, so it will likely be a lazy one.

Oganesson118 · 17/05/2025 09:01

I'm up and have had bacon and eggs for breakfast. Currently looking to lose weight (11lbs down so far) but Saturday is my cheat day.

On my second cup of tea now and will get showered and dressed soon and get my DD to the park to ride her bike on the pump track and poke about in the pond.

Off to a friends house for the annual Eurovision cheese-fest with wine and snacks so that will be good.

I've had a horrible week overall so I'm hoping today helps me feel better.

PermanentTemporary · 17/05/2025 09:03

Lunch sounds lovely, ha e a good time!

I'm moving slowly after being really ill yesterday, but am dressed and sipping water. We're booked to see an exhibition at 11 so will catch the bus just after 10. Then we've got a free slice of cake at John Lewis plus some vouchers from DP's work team, so will go and pick up an order and have lunch there - though unfortunately I'm not going to feel like eating much. We're also going to take some candlesticks to be mended.

That will probably wipe me out so a quiet evening on the sofa beckons, maybe some soup for dinner.

lucysmam · 17/05/2025 09:08

@Simonjt clearly you won't have time to paint as well!

I'm procrastinating. I've got a ton of coursework to do and need to continue. I'd say I'm 75% done and have maybe 4 weeks left, depending on the interview date which could be any time from 6 June to mid September. I'd like to get it all over and done with though!

Teens are asleep, one will should be doing revision for chemistry GCSE today, DH will hopefully do a massive tidy whilst I crack on.

This evening we'll be sat watching Eurovision with the kids and pizza, I'm really looking forward to relaxing!

Meadowfinch · 17/05/2025 09:08

The first load of washing is on, I'm just off to do food shopping.

Then DS and I are going clothes shopping which he hates, but he is really picky about clothes so I refuse to do it for him. He needs a new shirt for school but he will only wear pure cotton or linen. Ideally he wants a pale blue s/sleeved cambric button down to replace the outgrown one. And he needs some new swimming goggles.

Then he'll come home and I'll do some stuff of my own in peace.

We'll swim this afternoon, and I need to catch up with dsis about half term. Then I'll go for a run and make supper. Basically a chores and chill-out at home day. 🙂

4pmwinetimebebeh · 17/05/2025 09:09

Flying to Australia! First time ever going for a relatives wedding. Currently at the airport steeling myself for 20 hours trapped in a plane with my 2 young kids. Have a lovely weekend all!

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 17/05/2025 09:10

DH just got home from his night shift so he's off to bed..

3 teens are still sleeping.

I've had a cuppa and a fruit breakfast (I'm starting a diet to lose a bit of weight before my holiday. A month to lose 7lb so got to knuckle down!)

Doing laundry, currently deciding whether to hang it out in the cold murkey garden or just chuck it in the drier.

elliesmummy19 · 17/05/2025 09:15

I’m sitting watching The Grinch (…in May) with my five year old and drinking coffee while my husband is running. Husband’s going to take her swimming later and I’m going to do some revision for an exam I have coming up.

frozendaisy · 17/05/2025 09:16

Good morning all,
Just on first gallon of coffee this morning, with the washing machine washing "something" I will just robotically put stuff in and take stuff out throughout the day!

Nothing anywhere near like a cocktail lunch here, not jealous at all, even in the slightest bit. (Actually me and H had a "feels naughty because it's a workday" couple of drinks in our local yesterday lunchtime because eldest finished compulsory school yesterday - obviously has many more exams to go - so we escaped out without them knowing for the last time until at least September when it might not be sunny - so that will have to do for fun for the time being)

Everyone had a lazy night last night.

But today is:
Wake teen1 - staple him to the kitchen table and
revision
revision
wake teen2 - for a day of football
revision
bacon sandwich
revision
revision
cut up a hundred oranges
say bye to teen2
revision revision
toast
revision
revision
revision
cook salmon because it might be good for brains, who knows
have a row about revision
think why do we have to do Christmas Carol when it's blazing sunshine
talk about the supernatural, go off on tangents about religion and psychedelic plants
revision
agree to popcorn and a movie because yes one has done enough revision today and yes the other has been playing football all afternoon

Hope DD2's hard time is just temporary, would suggesting to Dad that a big tub of posh ice cream eaten together as a pick me up, even just for a bit, help.

Teen1 is at the start of his GCSE exams, he has 0% coursework, so everything is based on what he does in the next 4 weeks, it's a balancing act of not burning out but making sure he is ready to show the examination boards what he can do regardless of what they throw at them! He had a stressful maths revision session one evening last week, it's better to make him work all day essentially, but for no great intense periods, it's only 3 more weekends like this (we are taking it chill next weekend start of half term), then we can look forward to sitting in a rainy garden come June!

GameOfJones · 17/05/2025 09:21

Morning all! I've only just got up after a lie in so will venture downstairs to see DH and DDs in a minute and will be having a coffee and a large glass of water as I've got a bit of a headache.

DH is leaving for a work trip this afternoon so I think we'll have a lazy morning although I do have some trailing geraniums I want to plant in hanging baskets.

After DH leaves it'll just be DDs and I so I'm planning on walking them into town to buy a new book each and maybe a trip to a cafe and the park.

Tonight is Eurovision and I have watched it every year since I was a child so we'll be tuning in. We have crispy duck pancakes for dinner and I'll make DDs a nest of blankets on the sofa as they want to stay up to watch it but are 8 and 6 so will probably fall asleep well before it finishes.

DilemmaDelilah · 17/05/2025 09:22

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone!

I had a good night last night despite being wired up to various machines for a sleep study. My arrhythmia nurse thinks my palpitations could be linked to sleep apnoea - hence the sleep study - and it just happened to be a good night for me. Woke up with a headache, again. I'm going to have a root canal filling on Monday which will, hopefully, clear up the toothache and, hopefully, the headache.

We are going out this morning to pick up a potty and a little Lloyd loom style chair, probably also to Lidl to pick up some of their nice bread. The potty is for youngest grandson who is coming down to visit (with his mum) in less than 4 weeks. We already have 2 potties but he is at the stage where if he expresses a need to go he needs to go NOW! The chair is because we have now finished (except for the curtains which arrive today) the new small spare bedroom (no longer former office). The wicker chair I was going to put in there is MUCH too big, but we need something to sit on to read bedtime stories, hence getting something smaller. I will need to recover the cushion, but I was going to do that anyway for the bigger chair.

Nothing else is planned for today, and I expect to spend some time sitting in the garden in the shade. It is quite cloudy at the moment, but the forecast is for sun this afternoon.

Enjoy your cocktails and lunch @lucysmam . I hope your DD2 is OK. A quiet day will probably do her good.

@PermanentTemporary hope you feel better today.
@Simonjt our spare room looks lovely now it is done - it will be worth it!
@Oganesson118 enjoy Eurovision

lucysmam · 17/05/2025 09:23

Good luck with your flight @4pmwinetimebebeh !

@Rainbow1235 sorry to see about your dad. I'm sure you'll all do him proud 💐.

@frozendaisy enjoy alllllll the revision 🤣. I have it all again next year with dd2. Dd1's next exam is at the end of next week so she's having a couple of days "off" it over the weekend.

Morning everyone! It’s been a few weeks since I’ve checked into this lovely thread because I’ve been rather down. Happy birthday to your friend @lucysmam and enjoy the cocktails. We haven’t really been deeply enjoying this weather so later today we’re having a couple friends over in the garden for drinks and nibbles in the early evening.

I’m up and out early, sitting in Costa finishing my breakfast before I head to Lidl and M & S for this week’s shopping including drinky nibbly things. After I get home, I’ll write in our garden shed for a bit then clean the house before our friends arrive. Toilets, wiping down kitchen counters, stripping the bed, aerating the house, etc.

Oh! And I just remembered we’re going to see a film this afternoon. This is a much fuller day than I realized. ☺️

Dinner-wise, I’m going to convert a tuna and cannellini bean salad into a classic warm Italian pasta dish. The canned beans are harder than I anticipated and some cooking may soften them up. Have a beautiful day everyone and enjoy the weather! 😎

lucysmam · 17/05/2025 09:27

No Mr. Dilemma drama this morning @DilemmaDelilah ? Your stories do make me laugh.

Dd2 will be ok, thank you. Lots of support avenues being explored here & at school (and she tends to come to me or one of two specific teachers with everything, so that's good!).

@lucysmam
I am printing out marking schemes right now for past papers for Christmas Carol! Living the dream.....
And might have to resist the urge to point out that yes that drawing of a tilted test tube looks like a penis!

PersephoneSmith · 17/05/2025 09:32

Regents Park open air theatre for ‘Shucked’ matinee in the sun. Really looking forward to it. 😀

AllotmentTime · 17/05/2025 09:35

Morning all. I forgot how nice these threads are ☺️

I really wanted to go to the allotment this morning but did my back in there yesterday morning. Just a sprain I think, but I will be at home doing gentle stretches instead. Boo.

DH is off to take DS swimming and then to a friend's shortly. I'm taking DD and a friend to a Guides event this afternoon.

Late afternoon we will all be reconvening for the FA Cup final followed by Eurovision. I am making Jamie Oliver's cheesy cannelloni chard thing and I also like trying a new cocktail each Eurovision. I need to get my shit together for the latter because I have not planned any cocktails nor checked to see what we have other than gin. And rum. And (realising I do actually know the contents of the cupboard by heart) grenadine, sugar syrup, limes, tonic & soda. Mojito can be the backup if I can't come up with something more inspiring for which the local Tesco will have any missing ingredients!!

Cocktail ideas welcome 🤣

RabbitsRock · 17/05/2025 09:36

Good morning @lucysmam & the Saturday crew. Rainbow1235 so sorry about your Dad. Hope he’s comfortable 💐💐💐
In bed but will get up soon as my broken arm is feeling particularly heavy & swollen & I’m a bit hot. DH brought me a cuppa before he left for work just before 8. Really wanted to go to a local farmers market this morning but I can’t get there. Looking like another sunny day so I’ll grab one of the books I’ve been meaning to read for ages & sit in the garden with the bunnies. Might have my alcohol free cider. DD16 has just popped in for a chat & to advise me on phones. The one I ordered got sent back because of a blip but actually it’s worked out well because I can get a better phone for the same price ( I Phone 16e). They only come in black or white so I’ll treat myself to a snazzy case. Might order an Indian tonight. We recently started using a different restaurant & the food is great plus delivered promptly & piping hot. It’s expensive but DH & I rarely go out, especially at the moment with my injury. DD isn’t a fan so will probably ask for cheesy chips. She went out for Maccies last night with friends. We always say we won’t watch Eurovision but invariably do! When the semi final was broadcast there were stories about the die - hard fans which I actually found quite touching. Keep bursting into song with the UK’s offering - even DH has been singing it & he doesn’t sing much at all, although I think he has a lovely voice. I wasn’t keen at first but it’s grown on me. Have a great day everyone!

Iamnotaloggrip · 17/05/2025 09:40

Morning all. I’ve already cleaned the kitchen in anticipation of my parents visiting tomorrow, downstairs loo next on the list. I’ve a vinted parcel to post then I promised to take ds to maccy d’s to celebrate the end of SATs. Will try to get out for a walk this afternoon then will watch the FA Cup and Eurovision later.

Have a lovely day everyone 😊

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 17/05/2025 09:54

Good morning Lucysmam and others. Enjoy your cocktails! Jings I hope you are feeling better now.
I had cataract surgery on Monday afternoon, so I am unable to do much. Just because I'm supposed to rest, not bend or lift things. It's very boring! I can't sit out in the garden either because of light sensitivity and dust- it's been a very dry few weeks in central Scotland.
On the plus side, my distance vision is amazing and I'll no longer need very expensive glasses. I'm on the list to get my other eye done soon and that will be fantastic. So a day of reading and watching tv ahead. I have stripped the bed and washed the whites and I'll hang them out soon. Then retire to the couch. Have a good day all

DinoLil · 17/05/2025 09:57

Morning all!

I've been up at 4am for several days and am sooo tired. Today, I decided to go back to bed at 8.30am for a nap and have just woken up.

I'm meeting a friend for lunch later. We'll have to take my dog who has SA but the pub we're going to has a bit of a fan club for my doggo. No idea why but it's getting embarrassing because I take different friends there and now all my friends are wondering just how much time I spend there!

IzzyHandsIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/05/2025 09:57

On the first of two trains to go and visit a friend in another part of the country. By my reckoning I'll have time for a cup of tea before getting on the second.
We're going to a gallery, then having late lunch. Don't know what we're doing after that.

Sourisblanche · 17/05/2025 10:06

Morning! I’ve been out for a run/walk (mostly walking!). Got back and cooked some bacon for teens and put another wash on.

Just made a batch of yogurt that should be ready in 8 hours or so.

Later some gardening, pottering and continuing to slowly pack up the house for what seems to be a very drawn out house moveHmmSmile
