Like a bbq or a pub lunch, say about 12.30/1.00/2.00 do you then have dinner at about 6ish?

Sometimes if hungry but other times no.

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/05/2025 13:02

We don’t have dinner until about 8 most days.

Mylegishangingoff · 11/05/2025 13:02

It depends. I only eat when Im hungry so if I'm hungry I will, if I'm not I won't.

mindutopia · 11/05/2025 13:10

Not about 6 ish because we never eat that early. But yes, we eat 3 meals a day in our house. Anyone can choose to eat what they wish at any one meal, but yes, 3 meals a day are prepared and served.

That said, we had a BBQ yesterday and it wasn’t a big meal. I had 2 sausages. Literally like just 2 sausages. Had intended to make a salad but never got around to it. I wouldn’t call 2 sausage links at 1pm a big meal. We would definitely have our usual family dinner at 7:30/8pm.

The only time that dinner would be more of the cheese, crackers, fruit not really a dinner variety is Christmas or similar big roast meal that gets served at 3pm. Then that’s like lunch/dinner as would be after 4pm when we finished.

doodleschnoodle · 11/05/2025 13:14

Depends on how hungry everyone is. I won’t cook a full meal for the sake of it if no one is that hungry and just wants something small or not at all. If I had a really big lunch I’d probably just make something for the kids and skip dinner.

BeNiceWhenItsFinished · 11/05/2025 13:15

Not another meal no, probably tea and cake around 5ish, or wait until early evening and have something like cheese on toast.

Lallybroch · 11/05/2025 13:22

We went out for lunch this week with friends so weren't hungry until about 9pm when we just had cold cuts, bread and a choice of cheese and crackers.

wisteriadrive · 11/05/2025 13:25

This is what i think too, cheese on toasts or crackers etc, I personally cannot face another full meal especially if I’ve had something big like burger/fries/steak.

I asked because we’re about to have a bbq and then thinking I really cannot be doing with prepping another meal tonight !

We only generally have one full cooked meal a day so if we'd had that at lunchtime it would be a sandwich, omelette or similar in the evening. We often have light evening meals anyway as we go out to exercise or allotment or whatever most evenings.

WhatNoRaisins · 11/05/2025 13:28

I'd probably just have something like you've said OP. If I'm feeling posh I call it high tea.

wisteriadrive · 11/05/2025 13:38

Yes I feel if I’ve had a big lunch I can’t then do a proper meal for dinner. Ds10 is a different story, but he is a growing boy I suppose ! He will have to have a cheese toastie or something though tonight 😆

My preference is to have a good breakfast at about 10 to 11 ish, then a good lunch at about 2 to 3 ish.

MrsPlantagenet · 11/05/2025 13:44

No. If we’ve had a substantial lunch we don’t have dinner.

UpJacksArseAndRoundTheCorner · 11/05/2025 13:46

No, we'll just have toast or something much later.

ManchesterLu · 11/05/2025 13:47

I usually have one main meal a day so if I went out for lunch, no, I wouldn't cook a full dinner. Maybe a sandwich - or whatever I'd have had for lunch if I hadn't been out!

CapitanSandy · 11/05/2025 13:47

No I’ll usually have something like cheese and crackers or a bowl of weetabix later on.

ForestFox44 · 11/05/2025 13:59

No probably just a snack like a bit of toast or carrot/hummus etc

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 11/05/2025 14:08

I usually don't but the kids get a sandwich

After a big Sunday lunch or BBQ I wouldn't be having/cooking another meal in the evening.

It likely be everyone helps themselves to leftovers/wraps/cheese/odds & sods, etc.

plantsnpants · 11/05/2025 14:27

no I tend to just eat lunch later if it’s big

DinaofCloud9 · 11/05/2025 14:28

Depends if I'm hungry or not.

Is this not the obvious answer?

whatsappdoc · 11/05/2025 14:30

Cook extra bbq stuff. Nothing wrong with a cold sausage sandwich or indeed any bbq leftovers. If you have a fussy family who expect you to do another session in the kitchen, now's the time for laying down the foundation of 'you know where the fridge, oven, microwave are'.

user2848502016 · 11/05/2025 14:31

No, usually not hungry enough. I will have something small like a slice of toast or cheese and crackers if hungry

SchrodingersTwat2 · 11/05/2025 15:14

I just have another decent meal.

I'm always hungry.
