I admit I looked up the jewels to see what date that pic was taken - some of the original collection (but none shown there), spent about two decades stuffed up the chimney of the house of a man who wore a hat like the one in the last image.

Very odd rabbit holes this game takes us down at times.

Well done @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats - as you say, the last one has been shown a few times lately - I'm always amazed that anyone doesn't immediately know it, it was a 9-11 moment for our generation - we were shown that image so often through the next couple of decades.

Yesterday, the combination of the Russian crown jewels and a man wearing a hat just like Harry Boland's (Harry was given four of the jewels in 1920 as part of some kind of Bolshevik/IRA war load security) helped me get where I hoped to be.

Today I wondered how many of those happy gleeful children in image 1 got a massive bollocking from the mothers who had sent them out looking clean and respectable.

Today was also baffled by the nuances of Portuguese headgear, and very nearly got completely the wrong war. Hooray for Tricky Dicky.
