Tbh, councillors don't gave to give ip their day jobs, so I am not sure how true this is? For those not on bluesky:

Pay starts £12,000 tax free, more at cabinet level - upwards to c35,000. I know one Labour councillor who donated his basic salary every year. He had excellent attendance and also worked.

Notonthestairs · 03/05/2025 16:06

Another reason to lament the loss of many regional newspapers - the people that monitor their local councils just don’t exist anymore.

and now I sound 100 years old. 😁

placemats · 03/05/2025 16:07

I also know off a person who put themselves down as a paper candidate because they had no chance of winning (Labour) and he won. There was a bit of grief.

😬

That’ll be erm …… interesting.

2 months ago - no interest in politics. But yet somehow still new no one was listening 🤔

He is going to need that good luck.

Indeed.
As I said, I can only hope they are all so atrocious that they have a very short tenure.

It's a nice wishlist, wonder how she is planning to fund it all

Reform UK’s new County Councillor for Birchwood, Lincolnshire, Brenda Collier plans to ban biscuits.

All anyone is ever going to get from Reform is biscuit crumbs from the table (and they should be blooming well grateful for them - when I was a nipper etc ad nauseum).

placemats · 03/05/2025 16:32

Nigel seems to forget that wfh was established before the pandemic. My ex wfh and, hard to believe, we had the internet. 😅

Saucery · 03/05/2025 17:08

I’ve worked in the public sector for 30+ years and not once have biscuits been funded. Gifted, brought in by staff, sometimes included in the price of training courses by private providers - yes, but not supplied out of council budget. Ever
What a stupid, stupid woman.

Oh and for our little Reform Fans on here, if I got a personal gift of biscuits that cost more than £25 I would have to declare it. In my previous sector we weren’t allowed to accept anything at all, not even a stale Rich Tea.

Can't they follow their leader and simply not do the job.

Admittedly it's easy for Nigel as he's a millionaire.

'Common sense', great policy.

I'm reminded of Justice Ollie Oliphant in John Mortimer's Rumpole stories.

Dame Andrea Jenkyns has doubled down on Farage’s pledge to sack diversity officers in Lincolnshire but the county council has revealed it does not employ any

BestIsWest · 03/05/2025 17:28

DF was a councillor for years. He loved it and had a cabinet post but my god, it was almost a full time job to do properly and bloody hard work. The amount of grief and abuse he got from people when things didn’t go their way made me wonder why he did it but he found it rewarding. This was in the days before social media and the level of abuse is even worse now.

Sharing documents on the breakdown of a £15,190 cost for diversity training between 2021 and 2023, she added: “Not a lot but still can save a bit of money.”

Biscuit crumbs from the table.

However, the training is needed and possibly required under the Equality Act.

I worked with a woman who had been a local councillor. She told me that she felt she was never off duty and that people would knock on her door, wanting to see her about some issue or another, even late in the evening. One night she'd been out and when she got home someone had been sat outside her house for a couple of hours waiting for her.

Same as my local Labour councillor, he does an excellent job was very instrumental in keeping the local library open & getting it refurbished this year.

How long before one of them snaps under pressure and does something ill-advised? They have no idea what they are getting into.

New Reform councillor here is 19.
Lots of "good luck, lad" posts on fb.
🙄

Staffs Moorlands? Or are there more teenage Reform candidates in other places?

DuncinToffee · 03/05/2025 19:43

Reform MP Richard Tice: “Reform control the Mayoralty and County Council in Lincolnshire with myself as local MP.

If you are thinking of investing in solar farms, Battery storage systems, or trying to build pylons.

Think again.

We will fight you every step of the way.”

We will win

The same Richard Tice who boasted putting solar panels on his company’s properties could help tenants with their bills

Im glad the shit they’ve soured in the first 72 hours is already being exposed with the “truth”.

Funny how reform often say they are the only ones telling it as it is 🫢
