Is there a thread about the latest Omaze Cotswolds house yet?

I tried googling but couldn't find one! I look having a good nosey at the houses but I love the Mumsnet threads more. Plus normally some brilliant sleuth finds the exact location/previous estate agent details.

Nope. But please don’t stress, it’ll be my new house as I’m definitely winning it. Spending some of the £250k putting in a tennis court and I’m done.

Plus guide dogs is my fave charity. So it’s written in the stars 😂

Ps it is in Cirencester according to House Beautiful.

Looks lovely. Very chocolate-box- ey.

Donotgogentle · 18/04/2025 06:20

Even a pool

ShyMaryEllen · 18/04/2025 06:23

Ooh, sorry - I usually start a thread when there’s a new house but I missed this one.

I need to check it out, but judging by that photo it looks lovely. No pool is fine by me, as they seem like a lot of hassle for little reward.

myplace · 18/04/2025 06:25

How does Omaze work? I’ve never paid much attention.

ShyMaryEllen · 18/04/2025 06:32

There is a pool. Outdoor, too.

I’ll live with that though (or get it covered) as the house is gorgeous. I’ll be back when I have decided on my plans for when I win it.

myplace · 18/04/2025 06:58

Thanks, @Netaporter

I was wondering more about how the house ends up on Omaze. Do they buy it first, so it’s no longer listed with an agent? Have they bought it at a steep discount, or does the owner effectively go into partnership with Omaze and get a share of the profits?

What if they don’t sell enough tickets?

Netaporter · 18/04/2025 07:10

Historically they’ve always sold enough tickets. Company (American firm) buys the house and transfers ownership to the winner. Assume there is a discount for a quick sale. Usually they are houses stuck on the market. Defined published amount goes to the charity. There are rules about who can win ( winners are apparently vetted in the week before the announcement) to reduce the chance of someone they think will bring negative attention to the competition/firm (such as a notorious convict etc) which seems to attract comment.

Frozenpeace · 18/04/2025 11:07

Thank you @Netaporter I enjoy seeing how omaze change it !

I'm still outraged I didn't win the Scotland one, since no-one else on here seemed to want it.

Chersfrozenface · 18/04/2025 11:37

Ooh, I'd love to keep that one when I win it, but I couldn't afford the upkeep.

So sell the house it is, then buy the kids flats (here are the keys, pay your own bills) and spend the rest on holidays.

When I win I'm going to keep it but rent it out some of the time to cover the cost of the upkeep.

I want to know what was making it hard to sell though.
Sometimes the catch is really obvious like the one on a main road or the ones on the edge of cliffs.

I wonder if the house comes with the 60 acres it was listed with previously. The Bath house had an annexe/separate garage and parking area that was on the original listing and yet didn't seem to be part of the omaze house. I was really worried about it for some reason. Like I was actually going to win or something.

Anyone else not super keen on having to do the publicity? It puts me off buying a ticket. You will have to do silly poses with the keys and then they will zoom in on your tears while you blub.

I wanted to win it, but I also felt quite stressed by the thought of all the travel Grin. It was almost a relief when I didn't win!

I suspect they don't have to be hard to sell any more (or not necessarily more than £multi-million houses are hard to sell because of the restricted market for them). Omaze is popular enough now that they know they will make their money back, so they can probably just pick houses they want to feature in their competitions. They'd still have an advantage when buying because they can scope out what's coming up and be ready to go, and they're not restricted to a specific area beyond wanting to cycle between different parts of the UK.

Yeah, that's what's stressing me out about when I win this one. If I keep it, I probably can't give up my job, but that means I can hardly ever go there as it's too far away. So I will have to reluctantly sell, then quite my job and live a life of luxury.

ThisWOMANWontWheesht · 18/04/2025 12:08

Love this one. Looking forward to living here. It’s really my turn, because I failed to win the last three!

Netaporter · 18/04/2025 12:29

I’d definitely be keeping this one. The publicity is annoying, granted however who seriously remembers any of the previous winners? You would have to know them wouldn’t you?

As I said,I’m spending £50 K of my £250 K that comes with the house on an Astroturf/carpet Tennis court then I’d be doing a mixture of posh Airbnb for the main house some of the time and Airbnb for the little cottage a lot of the time. I guess the great thing about these houses is they are beautifully furnished but as you didn’t choose any of it, there is no sentimental attachment to any of the items so I think I would be less precious about it which would make it easier to rent. I’d also make sure that the swimming pool had the best heat retaining cover and an air source heat pump. The remaining money is going into an accessible cash ISA at 5% return. I reckon the income from the little cottage and the rental of the big house from time to time on Airbnb would cover the upkeep costs over the year.

Not that I’ve thought about it much since I saw it yesterday or anything 🤣

Obviously, it goes without saying that you are all invited to come and see it when I have won it 😉

Pieceofpurplesky · 18/04/2025 12:57

I will live in the annex and rent out the house when I win. Live off the rental income.

Yes please, at mates rates obviously.

I wonder why they turned the indoor pool into an outdoor one?
