Is there a thread about the latest Omaze Cotswolds house yet?

I tried googling but couldn't find one! I look having a good nosey at the houses but I love the Mumsnet threads more. Plus normally some brilliant sleuth finds the exact location/previous estate agent details.

I wonder why they turned the indoor pool into an outdoor one?

Maybe the previous owners didn't have permission for the pool structure.

Or it had leaks and/or other problems and it was easier to pull it down than repair it.

I much prefer an outdoor pool. It feels more natural to me and doesn’t stink if chemicals in the same way as enclosed ones. In an ideal world, I would love to plant it up to turn it into one of those natural swimming ponds. You are all welcome for a dip when I win 😉

I've made my plans for this month's fantasy. I will sell my house and give the money to my children, then live in the Omaze one, using the annexe for writers' retreat breaks to help with the costs. It's a long way from home, so I may not stay there forever, but there's always the option to sell and come back after a while.

How do they draw the winner? Is it done by computer? Do they just press a button?

Also another thing that has always made me wonder - if you have competitions that you can enter both by email or by post, how do they draw the winner fairly? Do the post ones get computerised?

I haven't entered a competition or draw of any kind for years but that has always bugged me because I have a sneaking suspicion that the draw takes place out of one type of entry or another - either from all the electronics or all the mailed ones - so a whole set of entrants are disenfranchised from participating.

Has anyone ever worked for a magazine or newspaper or Omaze or anywhere that runs a competition involving a winnner being drawn from a load of entries?

ShyMaryEllen · 18/04/2025 15:05

I'm not sure of the mechanics, but I know that gambling laws are tight, and however it is done must be fair (ie giving every entry an equal chance).

My only reservation is with the publicity clause. As someone pointed out upthread, nobody remembers the winners after a while when they are strangers, but it's not that that concerns me, it's people I know finding out. The winners will always be 'that couple/person who won the house worth £Xm', which I wouldn't like, and is why I don't play the Postcode Lottery. I don't know if there is a way to opt out of the Omaze videos and so on.

I would too.
Wish it was in walking distance of a country pub!

This is why I'm going to win, as I would keep them as stables as they were intended. Halo

What a shame they dismantled the pool cover as it meant you could use it all year round. If I won I’d have to have that reinstated.

BuyingButterAndSatinSandals · 20/04/2025 13:03

For those worrying about unwanted publicity, my understanding is that you can opt out. For example, the man who won the house by the golf course in Scotland didn't appear in a winner video or photo and all we were told about him was that he is Jon from Berkshire and that he was a subscriber. I seem to remember there were others who remained as anonymous, for example a couple of the car/cash winners. I would definitely opt out.

I did wonder about that - I would definitely opt out as my kids are SEN and DH has a high profile job so would want none of that (neither would I tbh, though I’d have put up with it if it was a condition).

And then, when you move in, you can blag it with the locals and say you bought it from the winners…

I'm still outraged I didn't win the Scotland one, since no-one else on here seemed to want it.

I really wanted it but I didn't want all the midges. I would have had to dress like a beekeeper when outdoors for half of the year.

BuyingButterAndSatinSandals · 20/04/2025 13:48

That 57 acres would suit me just fine.

Unfortunately I'd have to spend some of the £250k on replacing the glasshouse over the pool. It seems silly in the UK climate not to have a pool enclosure, so I too wonder why Omaze removed the existing one. It makes it much cheaper to heat and means it can be used all year round. I would have had to do the same if I'd won the recent Norfolk house, although that pool didn't seem to have planning permission, never mind an enclosure over it. I wonder what has happened with the planning issues since the house was won.

Me too. I could have more spaniels!!

Just shown DH and he’d move in. We’d sell our current home and buy something in/close to London with the money from that to share with the kids whilst at uni and for him to use when working. But we’d keep this one. Transport links are not ideal - no train station in Cirencester so it means driving to Swindon. But my sister lives near there. And the Inlaws are about 1hr 40 away which is closer than we are now (3-4hr drive) so as they are in their 80s, and there is that cottage, it would make caring for them so much easier.

Yep, have thought about it. We’ll take this one Omaze!!

Does anyone have a picture/screenshot of the blue bedroom with the pheasant wallpaper as styled by omaze? Desperate to see it again to inspire my own bedroom but can’t find anywhere online after the draw closed and Omaze won’t share the image despite contacting them
