Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

lucysmam · 13/04/2025 07:43

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day in my kitchen spot. I've fed Mountaineer Cat and his sister already, although he just sat on the bed staring at me this morning, so not as bad as yesterday's adventure to the top of the door 🤣

The girls aren't up yet, they won't be for ages I don't think.

Yesterday's electricians are coming back at 8, to finish off the last few bits. They gave it 12 hours yesterday, couldn't have asked for any more at all! Although I did realise, at some point in the night, I should have asked for a second socket on the kettle wall 🤷‍♀️. Too late now I think.

When the electricians are finished...holy fuck this place needs a cleaning fairy to wave her magic wand! There's dust, upon dust, upon dust! So that's me for the day. As well as organising the things I need to take to work tomorrow.

Tonight it'll be early showers all round, and certainly early nights for me and dd2, ready for back to school tomorrow. Dd1 needs to be up early to let the plasterer in but it's not vital she gets a good night's sleep 💤

What about all of you? 🙂

Hope it all gets finished today. Cleaning all that dust won't be fun! My workplace is getting a kitchen put in over this weekend so I expect there will be a lot to clean up tomorrow morning. Not my job but I'll probably do it because I don't trust other people to do it right and our cleaners don't come in until Wednesday.

It's voting day in my country today, two elections to vote for - local and health and social care area elections. I'm still not sure who I am going to vote for so I'm going to do the election compass again (series of questions you answer then it matches you to candidates who gave similar answers) because last time it matched me with a candidate for the communist party!
At least I won't forget to vote, I've been getting text reminders from the authorities and from my union!

It's also virpominen day today, where children go door to door dressed as Easter Witches carrying decorated pussy willow twigs and offering them and a chanted blessing in exchange for chocolate or money. So I need to dig out some goodies to give out and take DS round the houses on our street. DD has aged out of it now, though she might volunteer to take DS in case she gets some chocolate too Grin

AND I have to find time to do some football training with DS because I forgot to take him to the first training session with his club so he insists I make it up to him.

Morning OP, sounds like a busy day ahead!

Usually I like to go out on a Sunday as it’s the only day of the week DH isn’t working, so we usually take the boys out somewhere fun for a few hours but honestly, I’m exhausted!

I think I’m ready for a ‘chill day’. I cleaned both bathrooms yesterday, the bifold windows, dusted round, did x2 loads of wash and changed sheets (and did the food shop!). On Friday I had family round for the day with all the kids, so I’d quite like to have a chill day at home today, perhaps cook a nice roast dinner and hope the boys will get along and play nicely!

Tiddlersfish · 13/04/2025 07:56

Morning @lucysmam - awake at the crack of dawn here with a teething DS so lots of coffee for me this morning.
need to put some washing on and the dishwasher in a minute as DH seemed to use more pots than can fit in the dishwasher last night, so I’ll be running another load this morning!
DD has gymnastics later so our usual routine of a slow morning then a trip to the pub garden while she is at club this afternoon if the sun comes out.
have a lovely day

Hi . Cleaning is the pits. Hate it. I'm going dog sitting for a friend and getting ready to view some new properties in the week for my relocation- can't wait. Looks like the weather has turned. Take care all of u. Contemplating seeing Six at cinema for a 3rd time- loved it

MinkyWales · 13/04/2025 08:01

Yesterday I did some of the chores that I have been putting off for ages, so I feel quite virtuous today. I shall mainly be washing and shopping, but I do want to clean out the cupboard in the bathroom.

Crunchymum · 13/04/2025 08:11

Morning all, when the dust fairies are done at your house lucysmam send them my way. The whole house needs a bit more than a dust.

I'll deal with that when they go back to school.

Lazy morning planned, food shopping due in a little while and I want to batch cook a stew and some soup. That will sort dinner and lunch a few days next week. Will also do a chilli.

This afternoon we are off for my nieces birthday party. She had her friends one yesterday and today is a family bbq (we are such a large family that inviting us to her party yesterday would have upped the headcount by 10 and that's just the kids in the family of her age!!)

Hoping everyone eats enough so I don't have to do any dinner. Also hope it doesn't rain !! I'm going to make a potato salad to take with us.

We'll just be chilling this evening - maybe some board games (we have just started to play Risk as a family) and an early night as we've got an early start tomorrow.

Beautifulsunflowers · 13/04/2025 08:23

Still in bed! Need a cuppa but im procrastinating on here!
Today is odds and sods day - need to do some housework and ironing, need to pop to the shops to get a few bits.
Going away Easter weekend so need to start preparing bits for that plus start a new job after the Easter holidays so also thinking about what I’ll need for that!
Also hope to get some gardening done and reading.
Have a lovely day everyone 🌼

Elderflower14 · 13/04/2025 08:25

Good Morning... Wilf came home yesterday... Today we have church And Mum and I are doing refreshments... This afternoon all three of my honarary grandchildren are coming for an early birthday afternoon tea with us... If last year is anything to go by then earplugs will be needed... Tomorrow is my birthday. We are going to the garden centre and then in the evening Mr and Mrs NDN are coming round and I'm cooking curry and chcoclate cheesecake!

RabbitsRock · 13/04/2025 08:27

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone. Just been reading yesterday’s thread. Lazing & scrolling in bed - typical that we woke early when we could have had a lie in but I’m happy, as Sunday mornings when I don’t have work looming are my favourite part of the week. I made a cuppa for us both earlier & was briefly tempted by the Easter chocolate stash but resisted. Honestly, the number of larger bags of mini eggs I’ve bought for Easter that have already been consumed! They are sooooo moreish! Ordered a Braun facial hair trimmer off the Boots website & have set up a Click & Collect for tomorrow. Amused that I initially typed “ Lick & Collect” 🤣🤣🤣Will get up & at ‘em soon. Need to get a tenner out of the cashpoint to pay for a small table for the summerhouse. It will be ideal as it has shelves. We need teabags so I’ll go to Tescos cashpoint. I’ll do a big shop tomorrow when it’s less busy (in theory!) There is washing on the line which was dry but got rained on yesterday so I’ll let it dry again then bring it in & put the next load out. Lovely sunny day. I put DH’s cycling gear on a quick wash when I made the tea so that can be hung out too. Opened the dishwasher to dry off the contents a bit more then one of us will empty it. Not much to go in. Kitchen surfaces need a good wipe. I’m sitting with DM this afternoon whilst DF plays golf. Found a word search from The Alzheimer’s Society so will see if DM fancies giving it a go.She used to be a bit of a whizz with crosswords & Soduku. At some point, I need to peel a load of spuds for roasties. Always do loads! We’re having them with sausages, carrots, peas & sausage gravy. Might find a film to watch tonight. Just realised I haven’t mentioned DD16. She could come with me to DM’s but struggles if it’s a long visit. She’ll probably experiment with her new nail kit, ordered yesterday & arriving today thanks to Amazon Prime. Have a great Sunday everyone!

CalicoPusscat · 13/04/2025 08:29

Just woke up and thinking about going out for breakfast. Will check in on friend on the way back.

After that really need to get on with packing, this place is a mess. So not a very exciting Saturday!

CalicoPusscat · 13/04/2025 08:47

Sunday even

ViciousCurrentBun · 13/04/2025 09:02

Planning first trip in Motorhome we are picking up in just over a week. First week is in the Peak District as it’s in our doorstep. Also planning our next trip which is a month in Devon and Cornwall. We have to be home between as DH though retired is doing some contract work for 2 places. Filling out a voluntary form, my friend is the manager and I’m doing some ad hoc volunteering when I’m home for that month for her charity.

DS is actually at home this evening so cooking a big dinner, he has a new GF and they are all loved up. She is lovely, he brought her round for dinner a week ago.

TheJoanCollins · 13/04/2025 09:08

Good morning @lucysmam . Lovely sunny morning here, so sitting in the conservatory, with the dog, catching up on MN. 2nd load of washing on. House is looking (reasonably) tidy, so I plan to have a lazy day.
Will be going out for Sunday lunch with the DC and DGC this afternoon - an early Easter get together.

Zippedydodah · 13/04/2025 09:13

Good morning everyone, ZDog2 and I are back from our walk, DH is taking ZDog1 to the village with him for their regular coffee and catchup with the regular crowd, I’m staying here to do a much needed cleanup and tidy.
Last evening we took the dogs on a 4 mile loop, watched the roe deer and enjoyed seeing the cowslips regrowing in the meadow - the awful landowners sprayed them all off last year, I was furious especially as the posh snobbyhotel claims to be very ecologically friendly 🤬
I have a grocery shop arriving at lunchtime, I need to sort out the fridge too.

frozendaisy · 13/04/2025 09:15

Morning all
Will venture down for coffee shortly
A morning of trigonometry yippee!

Intend on slowly cleaning sorting kitchen and reading along side revision teen have a stack of papers and a bigger stack of books so plenty to be getting on with
might start some sketches for a painting

enjoy all

Cyclingandrunning · 13/04/2025 09:26

Morning! I love these these gentle threads.
I usually wake up at 6am, but this morning, I fell back asleep and have just worked up at 9:15!!

I'm planning a chilled day, we've renovated the garden and completed it all yesterday so will try and get out and enjoy it today.

Sunday is my food shopping day so will get that done. Probably some clothes washing (4 teenagers so it piles up)

I might go for a cycle later too,it depends if the children are around or not. Happy Sunday. 😊

MissMarplesNiece · 13/04/2025 09:28

Hello Lucy and everyone else here. I'm planning a very lazy day today - I've got some kind of mild virus that's making me feel very under the weather and I don't feel like doing very much. DH is going to help his sister clear out her shed so I'll have a nice peaceful morning while he's out. While he's not here I'll do a bit of piano practise.

If I feel more energetic this afternoon and the weather's ok, I may spend an hour pottering in the garden. I've got some seeds to sow, and I bought sweet pea and snap dragon plants at the garden centre last week that need planting out.

DH will make lunch - nut roast with lots of veg - when he gets back, and I'll be having a nice glass of wine with it.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 13/04/2025 09:35

Good morning Lucysmam and others. It is cool here in central Scotland but dry with intermittent sunshine. I'm going out shortly for second breakfast with the family. I have a couple of things to buy whilst out ie a birthday present and a vase as I'm low on usable vases. Then a quick trip to Aldi for bread and milk and something for dinner. I fancy cauliflower cheese with whatever I have. Roast beef maybe. The afternoon will be spent pottering. Have a good day all

GingerLiberalFeminist · 13/04/2025 09:37

Late to tue party as ever. This morning I have played trains, meganlocks and then dollies with DD, while DH cooked breakfast. Now he's taken her out and I'm getting a MN breather!
We will leave for church at 10, then pop to shops after and Potter in the garden this afternoon.

itsgettingweird · 13/04/2025 09:55

Morning all.

just cleaned the bathroom white goods.

Sat now having a chilled moment on MN before packing suitcase, cleaning rest of house and cooking evening meal.

We go away tomorrow for 6 days as Ds competing in London at British Champs. So mainly just trying to chill, pack and clean. I’m not sure the 3 together make for the most restful day 😂

mechanicalpencil · 13/04/2025 10:04

Good morning all!

My migraine has gone thankfully - only a 24 hour one this time - so I’ll be catching up on the cleaning I missed yesterday. Just had tea and a toasted hot cross bun in bed with DH.

After lunch, some studying for my course.

Then, if I get all that done, I have the last episode of Virgin River to watch!

Happy Sunday all!

mamaduckbone · 13/04/2025 10:22

Good morning @lucysmam and all. I hope the electricians get finished today so you can get straight.
I'm sitting in the car at rugby with a coffee - they warm up and train for an hour before the match so I catch up on messages (and mumsnet) whilst Dh natters to the other dads. I'll emerge when the actual match starts.
I'm helping ds2 with English revision this afternoon, and enjoying a Sunday evening without the Sunday sads as there's no work tomorrow.
Dinner will either be a roast or a bbq depending on what the weather does.

PenniesButton · 13/04/2025 10:28

Morning all

I woke up at 9:15 after a lovely lay in and went straight into the bathroom for an Everything shower. I have shaved, scrubbed, moisturised and I feel lovely now. I'm sure I lost weight from all the hair I zipped off! I had my toes painted yesterday for the first time this year and realised it's the time of year to come out of hibernation.

DW is just back from walking the dogs and has made me a coffee. Will eat breakfast then we're popping over to Dobbie's as they have a 20% off everything sale- annoyingly I spent £100 on gardening bits and bobs last weekend, typically! But I'm sure there's more to spend.

Then collecting 90 year old grandma from church and taking her out for lunch, before DW takes her to see Andre Rieu- she's very excited. I'll stay home and potter, do some diamond art and watch Love On The Spectrum which I just adore.

Spagbol and Gladiators final tonight!

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 13/04/2025 10:28

Morning :) DS was up at 6 this morning but DH got up with him and I got to lie in til 8. Currently sat in the waiting area of DD’s dance school waiting for her to go up for her first ballet and tap exams. It’s absolutely rammed in here but DD has happily taken herself off to the corner with a couple of friends, they’re sharing crisps and doing some colouring.

Need to do a food shop this afternoon but otherwise no plans! Might take the kids down to the park since the weathers nice but I’m struggling with chronic fatigue at the minute so it’s all a bit of a struggle

lucysmam · 13/04/2025 10:47

Oh my goodness, it's so chilly compared to yesterday! They're still going. I sent the girls dad to Lidl for extra cleaning supplies & he came back with breakfast wraps from McDonalds 😋. My appetite's not been great with me being under the weather so I'll probably not be fussed about tea now 🤷‍♀️.

I could probably actually do with another couple of slow days rather than back into work in the morning tbh. But I've sorted my work stuff, and watched the videos I wanted to watch. And discovered my busy appointment week is the week coming...not next week. So that's going to go down well when I request to leave early on Tuesday & not go in on Thursday.

I'm literally hanging round waiting to clean up now.
