Anyone else never had a UTI? Or am I the weird one.

I'm curious to see if I'm in the minority here.

I met up with some friends today and one of the group had to cancel due to a uti. I mentioned that I'd never had one and everyone seemed quite shocked.

Is it weird that I've never had one? How common are they? Am I maybe having them without knowing, like is it possible to be asymptomatic?

Everyone else I've asked seems to have experienced one at some point in their lives, why haven't I?

I've never had a UTI.

I’d never had one until I was in my late 60s.

Are you as old as that, @ConfessionsOfaSecretAgent?

Not quite there yet. Was it pretty obvious to you? I think I would have no idea as I've never experienced one.

I’ve never had one either. But I have a friend who has had them constantly for around 10 years (we’re both hitting mid 40s). I know which I would rather be when I see what she goes through. :(

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 13/04/2025 00:42

I've had two, both utterly miserable. One turned into a kidney infection and I ended up in hospital for antibiotics. The other one was over Christmas one year and it was horrendous.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 13/04/2025 00:43

Only one in my life until menopause.

WTF99 · 13/04/2025 00:51

Pretty common in women, especially if you're sexually active, owing to badly designed female plumbing. I think you've been lucky OP.
I once went to A&E with especially painful wee to be told by the doctor that 'nuns don't get uti's'
Didn't stop me having sex though. I was just more careful to have a big long pee afterwards

DramaAlpaca · 13/04/2025 00:53

I've never had a UTI, I'm 60.

HeartandSeoul · 13/04/2025 01:00

I hit perimenopause, and I am now getting frequent UTIs.

In answer to your question re: a UTI with no symptoms, you can indeed experience this. It is called asymptomatic bacteriuria (source: Google!), and it’s one of the reasons pregnant ladies have their urine checked frequently.

Yes, definitely obvious. Very painful.

Vaginal oestrogen has made a big difference. It’s not just vaginal plumbing (technical term) that benefits, but bladder, too.

None at all, until one occasion when I was 41 and DH was a little too enthusiastic in the bedroom. He chased me a lot of pain which then resulting in a UTI that took over a week to clear.

GettingMySpringOn · 13/04/2025 02:14

Never had uti , also Never had earache or Toothache either which everyone around me seems to also suffer with. touches wood

CalicoPusscat · 13/04/2025 02:17

I had one once years back, made me jump off the toilet in pain. Feels like you're pissing acid. Luckily passed very quickly so no meds required

Snozzlemaid · 13/04/2025 02:17

I’m 53 and never had one until I had a catheter in hospital recently. Even then I didn’t have any symptoms, a urine sample they tested showed I had ecoli present apparently.

Fuck my life you have never had a toothache?

kilesuts · 13/04/2025 02:29

Never knowingly had one. Never done the peeing thing after sex either, and I've often opted for drinking very little water and weeing infrequently (during lockdown with no toilets open, and on long haul flights).

I don't think it's that unusual, I've had UTIs but never had a toothache

Poonu · 13/04/2025 02:36

Nope. Never

FrootScoot · 13/04/2025 02:38

I was treated for one in pregnancy after something showing up in urine sample but had no symptoms.

FiveShelties · 13/04/2025 02:39

Never had one, but I do drink lots of water and wine😁

TappyGilmore · 13/04/2025 02:39

I’ve never had one. I wouldn’t have thought it that unusual to not have had one.

Surroundedbyfools · 13/04/2025 02:59

Wow ! U lucky lucky ladies ! I’ve been troubled with uti’s since I was about 8 ! I’d say in a good year I’d maybe only have 4/5 ! I’ve had years where ive had them non stop ! I’ve had multiple cystoscopes etc no real reason ever found !

Wow, it's worrying that you can have one without symptoms 😳

I’m 38 and I’ve never had a UTI or thrush yet much to the surprise of my friends.

I've never had thrush either now that you mention it.
