Seems like so many kids have broken up for Easter already? In my area they finish next Friday and have the traditional week before and week after Easter off!

What county are you and have the kids broken up?

Worcestershire here.

We break up next Friday. As we should.

Easter is late this year, so I would have thought many schools would be doing the 2 weeks before Easter and going back after Easter Monday

Yes. Our local authority has done this. usually it is a week either side.

Theunamedcat · 06/04/2025 21:30

Breaking up this Friday I've still got an Easter fayre and exam prep days to go

And a blood test tomorrow thankfully I've booked it for the right week if it had been half term ds would have ended up with me he hates needles

We break up end of this week. Easter weekend in the middle of the holidays. 4 week half term when we go back. North east England

Those who still have another week to go... does term feel very long and are the children more than ready for a break?

Our half term was a week later than most of England so it doesn’t feel that long since they last went back on 4th March (inset on 3rd!)

Dairymilkisminging · 06/04/2025 22:13

We broke up 28th March. Morayshire area. Back on the 14th April

Haribosweets · 06/04/2025 22:14

Gloucestershire - break up this Friday and go back Monday 28th April. Then only 4 weeks (and a bank holiday) and another week off! Very late this year.

Why does an inset day at the start of term shock you?

Us too.

Scotland, on the border of two local authorities (live in one, work in the other), one broke up on Friday, one has already been off for a week. The usual is first two weeks in April, regardless of when Easter falls.

No shock about any inset days. Ours are usually the Friday before a holiday , particularly before February half term (we’ve often used it to get cheaper flights) so this one was unusal.

Exclamation mark.

Exclamation mark.

It was a surprise to have an inset the day after February half term when it’s been the Friday before as long as I can remember. Anyway, all it does is make this half term shorter after a very long half term after Christmas.

Leeds specifically has the first two weeks of April off no matter when Easter falls. This happens every year. I believe it is the old factory fortnight or "wakes week" where I am from which meant each town had their own week from June to August. The factories and mills shut down for maintenance.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/04/2025 04:34

Sheffield and Leeds always have the first two weeks of April, regardless of where the bank holidays lie. This year, that means that they have 2 weeks off, followed by 2, 4 day weeks.

We're in between S & L, but have just finished, so we have two weeks starting now and go back to school straight after Easter Monday. It means they are only back for 2 weeks before GCSEs start! Actual written papers, not just practicals and orals. This would be even less with a week before Easter/week after.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 07/04/2025 04:37

Norfolk, broke up Friday, go back the weds after Easter Monday.

whysomanyleafblowers · 07/04/2025 04:37

1.5 weeks off already don’t go back until after Easter - independent school though so clocking on to a 4 week Easter hol (Surrey)

ayvasili · 07/04/2025 04:56

Here in Cyprus, kids are off as of Friday and will go back on the 28th

Crunchymum · 07/04/2025 07:37

When Easter is late like it is this year, the holidays always fall this way - they go back day after Easter Monday.

I'm sure we've also had it when the Easter holidays fall early so the kids break up the Thursday before Good Friday.

It's only every few years we get the holidays that fall the week before and week after Easter weekend.

We're in London.

TheNightingalesStarling · 06/04/2025 21:15

South Yorkshire. Finished over a week ago. One more week to go.
Then they have 4 days back in school, before the actual Easter long weekend.

They always have the first two weeks in April off, regardless of when Easter is.

We are the same, it fell really well this year as it was super cheap to go away that first week!

CeeJay81 · 07/04/2025 07:51

Ours breakup on Friday. Wales always do so that Easter weekend is always in the middle of it. Very late this year and what with all the nice weather we've had, you can gaurantee it'll be peeing it down!

Scorpion84 · 07/04/2025 07:58

West mids - we break up Friday

Chipsahoy · 07/04/2025 07:59

We’ve had a week already. Another week to go. North East Scotland

Motherknowsrest · 07/04/2025 08:02

Hampshire broke up on Friday. They go back the day after Easter Monday, Tues 22nd.

faerietales · 07/04/2025 08:07

Schools broke up on Friday here (Cumbria) - back on the 22nd after Easter Monday.
