King Donald has bigly new tariffs, First Lady Elmo turns out to be ballot box poison and 'Pick Me Girl' Vance is a meanie to the EU.

(But at least the penguins on the Heard and McDonald Islands are wearing suits)

Don’s Tariffs are all starting to feel a bit ‘mini budget…’

I expect he’s going to be making some of the ‘Greatest Deals the World Has Ever Seen’ pretty bloody pronto, i.e. massively rowing back.

I love Mark Carney even more than when he was at the BoE, he has absolutely no qualms in standing up to him.

If they only look at Fox News then they probably don't even know that tariffs are "a thing".

This is the current front page of Fox News' website.

The only section on tariffs focuses on Rep. Jared Golden saying he'll "vow to help work on key part of tariff plan."

I’ve just seen this, from j-c11.bsky.social, which sums up exactly how I feel:
"This regime is at once a true threat to democracy and the most idiotic and brainless administration, likely ever."

Fox News reporting

Trump's "Liberation Day" tariff announcement comes after the conclusion of the trading day for U.S. financial markets, which have been rattled by uncertainty over tariffs in recent weeks. The S&P 500 is down about 3.9% year to date and the benchmark index's gains since Trump's election in November have been erased amid concerns about a widening trade war.

"April 2nd, 2025, will forever be remembered as the day American industry was reborn," Trump said in remarks from the Rose Garden. "In a few moments, I will sign a historic executive order instituting reciprocal tariffs around the world. Reciprocal — that means, they do it to us, and we do it to them. Very simple, can't get any simpler than that."

"This is one of the most important days, in my opinion, in American history. It's our declaration of economic independence. For years, hardworking American citizens were forced to sit on the sidelines as other nations got rich and powerful, much of it at our expense," Trump said. "But now it's our turn to prosper, and in so doing, use trillions and trillions of dollars to reduce our taxes and pay down our national debt, and it'll all happen very quickly."

Who will be paying those tariffs?

Oh - and a fact check as well

What Bigly needs is Liz Truss on hand as Special Adviser. She knows all about handling current circumstances.

Mark Carney is great. I always had a bit of a crush interest in him when he was Governor of BoE. 🤭

This.

If the US consumer wants goods that are not manufactured in the US, then they will pay more costs because of tariffs.

If companies move manufacturing to the US, then US consumers will pay more for those goods because it costs more to manufacture in the USA than in many other countries.

Either way, the US consumer pays more

Not if you remove labour and environmental protections and kill the value of the dollar!

Can someone please wake me up when it's all over. I'm going to hide under my duvet for the next 4 years.

Placemarking.

Yes these threads move with lightning speed!

It’s like 2016-2020 all over again for me. When I wake up, I check the news straightaway, and as it was the same back then, my first two thoughts are: ‘what insanity has happened now’ or ‘is he dead yet?’

There's an old Russian joke that resufaced when Putin invaded Ukraine. Bloke goes into a newagent, buys a paper, looks at the front, then immediately bins it. Does the same the next day, then the next. On the fourth day the newsagent asks him what he's doing. 'Looking to see if someone's dead' says the bloke. 'But the obituaries are on page 30' says the newsagent. The bloke resonds 'The one I'm looking for won't be'.

I don't know if we've discussed this gem on here yet. The fact that he hasn't pushed back against this means, I think, that Marco Rubio has crossed over completely. Do we think he thinks he has a chance of being the next presidential candidate?

https://bsky.app/profile/mehdirhasan.bsky.social/post/3llxqtykhlk2g

So does Laura Loomer now have unfettered access to Himself - what happened to the much-lauded Susie Wiles gate-keeping?

Rubio appears to have had no say in the dismissals. One of those sacked (apparently on LL's advice) was a former chief staffer of his from when Rubio was a senator. So presumably someone he knew well? He's definitely sold his soul to the devil.

Maybe he's trying to be Lil' Bigly Marco now and aiming to show he's ready to "tough it out" with JDV in terms of positioning for 2028.

Trump praised Loomer Thursday, saying that while she has recommended firing people in the past, “yesterday, she recommended some people for jobs.”
“She is a very strong person, and I saw her yesterday for a little while and she has her, she makes recommendations of things and people,” Trump said aboard Air Force One. “And sometimes I listen to those recommendations, like I do with everybody, I listen to everybody, and then I make a decision.”
Loomer didn’t offer details on the meeting but said she’d “continue reiterating the importance of strong vetting.”

I've always had a thing about super intelligent men who give out an air of calm authority. Oh dear, I must get a grip... but we'll be seeing a lot more of him now he's PM of Canada. I think we should stand with him!

BustingBaoBun · 04/04/2025 10:09

Hang on... Laura Loomer is some sort of conspiracy theorist, far right internet idiot and she is advising the President of the US on who to fire and who to hire?
This is what the US is reduced to 🤮😱😲

Forbes has it...
Rep Jim Himes, D-Conn., the senior-most Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, wrote on Threads: “I am deeply disturbed by the decision to remove General Haugh as Director of the National Security Agency. I have known General Haugh to be an honest and forthright leader who followed the law and put national security first - I fear those are precisely the qualities that could lead to his firing in this Administration.” Himes said the Intelligence Committee needs an immediate explanation for the firings, “which makes all of us less safe.” Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chair Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., also lambasted the move and Loomer on BlueSky, saying: “It is astonishing that President Trump would fire the nonpartisan leader of the NSA while still failing to hold any member of his team accountable for leaking classified information on Signal – even as he apparently takes staffing direction from a discredited conspiracy theorist in the Oval Office.” Warner warned the U.S. was facing “unprecedented cyber threats, as the Salt Typhoon cyberattack from China has so clearly underscored,” and asked how does Haugh’s firing “make Americans any safer?”
What Do We Know About Loomer’s Meeting With Trump?
According to the New York Times, Loomer reportedly met with Trump at the Oval Office on Thursday. During the meeting, the far-right activist laid out a list of national security staffers whom she believed were disloyal to Trump and urged the president to fire them. Loomer reportedly “excoriated” the officials during the meeting, where National Security Advisor Michael Waltz was also present. Brian Walsh, the senior director for intelligence, Maggie Dougherty, the senior director for international organizations, and Thomas Boodry, the senior director for legislative affairs, were among the six people who were fired on Thursday, the report added.

You know what, I’m not normally one for a military coup, even a bloodless one, but I would say now that desperate times call for desperate measures.

I know what you mean. Because how much further can the US sink.

When some random right wing internet twat is advising POTUS, it's gone too far.

I was whatsapping some of my american friends yesterday. They are scared shitless.

Unfortunately I suspect the well armed militia from the second amendment are the ones wearing MAGA caps.

Which presumably are now more expensive since they are made in China.
