Booths...what do I need to buy?

I've got a week's holiday booked in a beautiful Yorkshire cottage later this year. I've been before and usually get a Waitrose/Ocado delivery but as I'm going to be starting my break with a few extra days near Ripon, I'm going to do Booths!

Am a massive foodie but their website isn't particularly informative...any suggestions for their best goodies?

@MadamePeriwinkle if you are in the Haworth area, Robertshaw's farm shop is worth a visit and is just over 5 miles away.
Their butchers counter is very good, they do cheesy chicken Kyiv which is surprisingly good. Also a steak in red wine gravy pie which is as good as a homemade pie 😋

In Harrogate, there's also the https://www.bakeribaltzersen.co.uk/ Baltzersen bakery. I love their cruffins. Fortunately I live here so am out and about hiking and eating all over Yorkshire every week.

Make sure you also have fish and chips while you're here. They're the best in the country. No need to seek out any particular one, they're pretty much all great.

Artisan Bread Harrogate - Bakeri Baltzersen

Bakeri Baltzersen is anartisan bakery making real bread for sale at our stores and supplied wholesale across North and West Yorkshire.

The wienerbrod are amazing. Had a rhubarb one the other day

Booths is my nearest shop, when we have visitors they love going there: I love Longley farm range esp hazelnut or blackcurrant yogurts, the canvas bags for life, deli counter- cheese 😋the scotch eggs are amazing! Their range of good pasta and tinned tomatoes. Also from the hot deli get yourself a hot chicken and stuffing baguette ( at Christmas they do a turkey dinner one) enjoy !

As I said earlier on another thread, it makes me laugh when people recommend Longley Farm as something special to seek out, because they have been the ordinary standard brand available in every supermarket here forever.

Likewise Seabrook crisps. Yet Waitrose present them on their 'special, local, artisan' end of aisle display Grin

Ee lass, tha don’t know tha’s born.

God I miss Yorkshire.

I would be taking a good supply from your first leg with you to Howarth as well. Not so many 'niice' goody supermarkets up in them hills.
I'm not being rude to West Yorkshire as I live there and love every bit of Yorkshire but you will be spoilt for choice round Harrogate.. nearest booths to Howarth is possibly Ilkley.
We lile the Villete cafe in Howarth but the staff were quite rude the last couple of times we visited so haven't ventured back but nice cakes. Love a trip to Booths when we are in the vicinity.
Hope you have a lovely break in God's own Country!

Parkin. Like a sticky, grainy gingerbread.
Also fresh fish and fresh samphire.
Gorgeous raspberries if they are in season.

Ha ha I passed a Longley Farm truck waiting to deliver into our local farm shop at 5.30 this morning and thought of the Mumsnet thread where someone had recommended buying their yoghurt and cottage cheese instead of US products!

Oh yes this is a wonderful suggestion! A real treat to visit.

If you’re in Ilkley visit the lovely Deli opposite the church in the main part of time, they have lovely cakes, sandwiches, salads etc.
And yes, go and get a fab bag from Booths first! I often get their sandwich meal deal and then go to the cinema just round the corner over a lunchtime! Ps I don’t work for Ilkley BID!

Iamnotavicar · 27/03/2025 07:43

Longley Farm produce is god tier. Especially the yogurts - blackcurrant (bestest ever of any yogurt), hazelnut, mandarin or vanilla. And the double cream. And the full fat cottage cheese (plain or pineapple).

Bjorkdidit · 27/03/2025 08:15

After a few frustrating and fruitless trips to local supermarkets to buy Longley Farm cottage cheese, which I've been eating regularly since the 1970s, I discovered that they do click and collect from the farm or delivery, there's a wider range of products and it's cheaper.

The use by dates are good and it lasts for at least a couple of weeks beyond, so every few weeks I order a few items and make a point of going for a hike in the area, which I would do anyway to make it worth the trip. They put your order in a chilled locker that opens with a code so you can collect at any time.

I disagree. I live wandering around Booths. It has so many delights you just don't find in other supermarkets. I could easily spend a couple of hundred pounds there buying little treats for myself.

We used to get Longley Farm yogurts with our school dinners. But that doesn't mean they aren't better than many others. They have good ingredients and I still miss their hazelnut yogurt and cottage cheese with pineapple.

You can’t know it that well if you’re spelling it bloody Howarth 😱 jeez woman

OP don’t forget to go for a curry while you’re in West Yorks. You won’t get a better curry than in and around Bradford

Thanks @CountryQueen bloody autocorrect has done that. 🙈

I can hardly ever find mandarin yogurt and it's so nostalgic for me - we used to get for pudding in primary school with a sugary shortbread finger that I always used to dunk!

So many brilliant suggestions and recommendations. I've got a couple of other trips booked this year as it's my 50th and I'm honestly wishing I could sack them off and have another 10 days in Yorkshire instead!
