Booths...what do I need to buy?

I've got a week's holiday booked in a beautiful Yorkshire cottage later this year. I've been before and usually get a Waitrose/Ocado delivery but as I'm going to be starting my break with a few extra days near Ripon, I'm going to do Booths!

Am a massive foodie but their website isn't particularly informative...any suggestions for their best goodies?

A Lancashire Bomb, a thing of beauty and delicious to boot!

OptareSolo · 22/03/2025 22:41

Booths cakes are now supplied by Brysons I think.

However you need to buy alllllllll the cheese they sell. If you ask nicely they will give you little tasters of each. The deli counter is equally as good.

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 22/03/2025 23:19

Their on tap raspberry balsamic!

Mikart · 22/03/2025 23:21

Their cheese counter is sublime. And it's such a lovely shopping experience

LittleMy77 · 22/03/2025 23:21

Cheese counter is a good shout. If you're in Ripon on a Thursday, they have a market with fish, cheese, bread stall etc which are worth a visit

MadamePeriwinkle · 23/03/2025 10:20

Ooh I might well be going of the Thursday!!!

I love a good tote bag and all the coffee flavoured stuff sounds fab.

If you’re not vegetarian, go to Appleton’s on Ripon town square. Best pork pies and sausage rolls for miles!

MadamePeriwinkle · 23/03/2025 11:21

Nope, not veggie and I love pork pies and sausage rolls!

No, I mean the cakes that are actually branded as Lathams rather than Booths own brand. Although both are delicious!

I’ll be in Booths on Friday (Northerner living in London but returning ‘home’ for the weekend) and I’m salivating at the very thought. 😂

cryinglaughing · 22/03/2025 21:39

@HundredMilesAnHour Latham's is no more, they went bankrupt late last year.
Not sure who supplies their cakes now.

Wtf @cryinglaughing?!! Seriously?!! Oh no!!! I haven’t been up North since Christmas but I bought some Lathams cakes on Christmas Eve in Booths (literally my first stop after the long drive up from London).

Just off for a cry now. 😢

MadamePeriwinkle · 23/03/2025 12:30

Ok, so current plan is Ripon branch for a recce, ready meals and picnic stuff for Harrogate leg of trip (staying in an AirBnB so won't be cooking).

Then on the last day head over to Haworth via Fodder, Weetons and Ilkley Booths.

Now I just need to start saving up and losing some weight in preparation 😂

Cook meals are far superior to Booths ready meals imo, which I rarely like. The Ripon store's Cook freezer isn't great for one person meals, tiny section, you'll have far more choice at Cook in Harrogate.

Things I like at Booths - Booths' own chilled Rhubarb Crumble is lovely. Fish and butcher's counters both good for buying for one, same with the cheese counter, freshly baked bread is nice (although Baltzersens' is better and if you're in Harrogate I would go there personally).

Ripon has an M&S Food that has just expanded in size, not as big as the Harrogate one, but less hectic of an experience.

SundayMorningLoafing · 23/03/2025 13:16

Also, pork pies - go to Pateley Bridge - Weatherheads Butchers - far superior to Appletons, they won the 'world pie championships' a couple of years ago. The only time I eat a pork pie is if I cba to drive to Pateley.

@VWT5 In Switzerland?

Fuerteventura -every winter
Maybe the same lady does Switzerland as well in the summer though…..😃

SnakesAndArrows · 23/03/2025 13:40

Coverdale cheese. Also, everything else on the deli, Ilkley brewery beer, the bags, the bread and Herdy mugs.

drspouse · 23/03/2025 14:41

Just off to get my Too Good To Go bag from Booths!

@VWT5 that’s a shame. I’m the one who takes one to Switzerland. You could have come over and said hello! 😂

I don't want to dampen your
Excitement but booths
Is Massively overrated

Absolutely not.

MadamePeriwinkle · 24/03/2025 10:20

MrsKeats · 24/03/2025 10:06

Absolutely not.

Well I'm excited about it anyway.

Tbh I usually get my weekly shop delivered from Tesco so an in person trip to our local big Sainsbury's is treat!

Bigham I'm obviously not about to drive up from
Brighton for one, but when I come in the summer it'll all be in roughly the same area where I've got a few hours to kill before booking in to my accommodation so yes, I am absolutely going to hope they have them!

I've also just been browsing Latham's cake and dessert selection...😋😋😋
