Hello all
Obviously we have to be careful what we say but I've been reading this trial and the notes. This lady gave birth 28 years ago. A concealed pregnancy and dumped the already deceased baby on the edges of a theme park. She was only found in 2023 when her son was arrested and his DNA marched that of this baby. How can you have kept this a secret all this time ??

I saw that.

Yes she might have bad PND/depression but to not come forward in more than 25 years, once she was in a better frame of mind, and never tell anyone, must have been an awful secret to keep.

Supersimkin7 · 21/03/2025 22:44

Incest usually.

Incest usually.

It wasn't, the DNA matched both the woman and her husband.

Bertiel33 · 21/03/2025 22:50

I think she must have been suffering terribly. Nobody in their right mind would do this to a baby they have carried for nine months and I think the fathers statement is quite telling of how her life may have been.
I can't condone what she did but it must have weighed so heavy on her all this time. Why not just leave the baby somewhere safe? It's all so sad.

GardenFullOfDaffodils · 21/03/2025 22:56

I feel very sorry for her. Imo she must have been in a very bad place to have done this. The video of her arrest shows she’s spent decades with anxiety about betraying her family and with the fear of discovery.
The police handled her compassionately.

sellotapechicken · 21/03/2025 23:20

she did kill him. She stuffed tissues into his mouth,
I feel so sorry for her

TheSilentSister · 21/03/2025 23:49

She had her son in 1996 and fell pregnant again in 1997, probably felt overwhelmed by it all and shut it out of her mind. To murder your own child is extreme though. I can't begin to imagine what she was going through then and since. I think the fact her husband and son have stood with her will mean she will not be jailed and obviously the diagnosis of PND - sentencing due today but can't find any reports of it.

ChompandaGrazia · 21/03/2025 23:55

What a dreadful situation for all involved.

They adjourned sentencing due to a lack of court time, it says at the end of this BBC article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn0jn8lkgdeo.amp

It says a lot about the state of our courts when sentencing on a case like this gets kicked down the road. I think she must have been absolutely desperate and I hope that’s reflected in the sentence but it’s a very serious offence on paper. It must be awful for her going to court ready for a potential custodial sentence only for it to be adjourned.

I've just been reading this and sentencing has been put to the 4th April, they cannot say if the baby was born alive or not.

eurotravel · 22/03/2025 00:06

She must have had severe issues going on

3678194b · 22/03/2025 00:43

Coincidentally, I also saw this on this news the other day, also in the North West. Father identified of baby found deceased 14 years ago and they are trying to find the mother

don’t

This just proves how important easy, quick and free access to contraceptives and abortion is. There will be so many cases like this in America.

notatinydancer · 22/03/2025 09:41

I understand she must have been desperate but why kill the baby?
She could have left it somewhere , hospital , cafe , shop anywhere.

Mental illness can make you do strange things.

An 18 year old who killed her nephew while in psychosis.

GreenCandleWarmth · 22/03/2025 20:33

Her husband's statement was telling. He said that she did everything for their 1st child and he was a difficult person. How many times do we hear this on here ?

I can't imagine there being anything like this level of sympathy if the father had been responsible. He'd have been an evil bastard who deserved to rot in jail

Because men don't get pregnant or give birth or suffer from post natal mental health conditions.

So women should literally get a get out of jail free card if they murder their children.

She had options. She could have left him somewhere but no she stuffed tissues down his little throat until he suffocated.

Some women do suffer. Some however are like male murderers - evil

LilyOfTheValleySoon · 22/03/2025 21:02

How on earth did the father not say anything? Not possible he didn’t know his wife was pg. and had given birth.
So he stayed silent and covered it up too?
Or had walked away from ‘his difficult to live with’ wife by then?

OnePeachA · 22/03/2025 21:04

What use is sentencing this woman now? The baby would be older than me now. Assuming she has a track record of being a good person and mother, with no history of violence since, what is the point here in sentencing?

He said they were working opposite shifts and barely saw each other at the time. Also from the description he gave of her doing everything and him being 'difficult' you can imagine a husband who spent a lot of time away from the family and was probably unpleasant when he was around. You read similar stories every day on here. Easy to imagine he wouldn't have noticed anything if she was withdrawn and wearing baggy clothes.

This is my thinking exactly.

I think it's very very easy to dismiss someone as simply "evil" but realistically most people who do awful things tend to be in pretty horrific situations in themselves and we know that the available care for maternal mental health NOW is inadequate so it would have been significantly worse then. I think the entire situation is just deeply tragic.

A woman suffering PND who gets pregnant quickly after the first birth and then kills the second baby immediately after giving birth to it can't be framed psychologically the same as a father taking the baby and killing it.

Carrying a pregnancy and giving birth causes all sorts of mental and physical health upheaval, much of which can't be predicted. Some women are blissful and others can be crashed into terrifying psychosis with a large spectrum in-between.

It's objectively tragic and awful that Callum was killed and his mother is responsible. How much criminal and moral responsibility she bears will be dependent on the circumstances and decided by a court as in most cases where a person is unlawfully killed.
