Saw this today in my local oxfam. I was suddenly teleported to being 12 again 😄

What year would be the soundtrack of your youth?

Duran Duran in 1982. Rio.

SprinkleOfSunak · 19/03/2025 20:18

Oh how wonderful! I can hear the songs vividly just by reading the song titles.

The graphics and colour on the cover are totally gorgeous!

ChippySauce · 19/03/2025 20:21

@SprinkleOfSunak There's a pic of the back cover as well, listing all tbe tracks but the image is still under review.
It was proper glorious!
If I had a record player I definitely would have bought it.

I had a massive crush on the singer from King 😆
I would have been 12 too. Where has the time gone 😭

BestIsWest · 19/03/2025 20:25

This is mine. Especially side two.

Cant pick one year but 1978-81.

1985 was the year we got married. White Wedding by Billy Idol was 'our song'. Still married 40 years on.

Moier · 19/03/2025 20:32

Year my eldest daughter was born.. so yes l remember all of the songs.. l was 26 years old.. music is one of my biggest passions.. from Disco to Northern soul... motown.. rock ... new romantic.. 80s alternative.. it starts with A for A flock of seaguls and ends with Z for ZZ top.

Lungwort · 19/03/2025 20:32

Well, obviously the Frog Chorus’s ‘We All Stand Together’ re-charting from the previous year is the key musical event of 1985.

1985 was the year I discovered Bruce Springsteen. Dancing in the Dark is my forever favourite song "you can't start a fire, sitting round crying from a broken heart" A friend at school lent me the Born in the Usa album and I was hooked. Fulfilled a lifelong dream and saw him at BST Hyde Park the year before last - I screamed so loud to every song I couldn't speak for 2 days after Grin

Edited

I’m with you on the timeframe! And any album with Up The Junction on it gets my vote!

Breakitdownplease · 19/03/2025 21:02

I had this too, was also 12!
Mooooooove closer, move your body real close 😂. Must've been around the time of like a virgin iirc. No wonder I was boy mad!

ChippySauce · 19/03/2025 21:08

@Breakitdownplease haha that made me laugh 😂
The back cover listing all the tracks has still not been uploaded, MNHQ must be busy tonight!

1984 was the stand out year in music for me, it was the year I left school. Songs like
Prince - when Doves cry
Cyndi Lauper - Time after Time
Flock of Seagulls - The more you live the more you love

Sunpeace · 19/03/2025 21:27

My eldest child was born that year. I can clearly remember dancing to "Move Closer" in the maternity ward with her nuzzled into my shoulder realising that this was what real love felt like!

Redcrayons · 19/03/2025 21:30

I had that album. In fact it’s probably still in my mums loft.

PiggyPokkyFool · 19/03/2025 21:30

My parents bought me a cassette player for Christmas and this cassette to play on it.

This makes me feel very very old!

Allthesnowallthetime · 19/03/2025 21:32

That brings back memories! I still think 80s music was the best.

SwanOfThoseThings · 19/03/2025 21:33

1985 was a great year in music. The list of tracks on the front of that album speaks for itself.

brilliant, anything from 1978-1983 for me but still love 1984, 1985

MadisonAvenue · 19/03/2025 22:18

1985 was the year I left school, aged 15.

I think 1981/82/83 were the stand out years for me. So much good music then and I was a very enthusiastic Duranie. We used to spend school holidays hanging around the Rum Runner and fan club on Broad St, me and my friend were even given concert tickets by Nick Rhodes’s mother once.
