Saw this today in my local oxfam. I was suddenly teleported to being 12 again 😄

What year would be the soundtrack of your youth?

Only in the eighties would I know him so well sit two tracks away from the Ghostbusters theme song

MadisonAvenue · 19/03/2025 22:25

The Steve Arrington song takes me straight back to nightclubs in the mid 80s, especially The Dome in Birmingham. Back then you could easily get in by just telling the bouncers that you were born a few years earlier than you actually were.

aliceinawonderland · 19/03/2025 22:44

Agree 1981-1983 were the best years. It went downhill after the mid eighties

Although Enya was sublime (1988)

MinkyWales · 19/03/2025 22:46

That has given me a flashback to snogging a boy at my friend Rachel’s birthday party. A dishy rugby player who later played for England.

Stopsnowing · 19/03/2025 22:53

my favourite year! I have a record player! Which oxfam?

I had a massive crush on the singer from King 😆
I would have been 12 too. Where has the time gone 😭

Edited

I saw him in real life in Leeds. He was tiny. I was very disappointed.

VanillaImpulse · 19/03/2025 23:11

That track listing is great. So many 80s compilations now have the same old songs on but this has some rare ones.

I wish I could get hold of the track listing for a double cassette album I got with my first ghettoblaster. It was a Saisho one from Dixons and the tape came free with it, pretty sure it was branded Dixons. It was called Dance Hits 86/87 I think or maybe Hot Hits? Does anyone have it? I’d love to find out all the tracks again. I think the first track was Princess - say I’m your number one

Oh yes, me too!!

@ChippySauce

Oh how fabulous! I will always believe that the 80’s was the best decade for music, fashion, hair and make up!

And men with smudged eyeliner.

  1. 14 years old listening to Da Da Da, Driving in My Car, Fantastic Day, Papa's Got a Brand New Bag, All of My Heart etc etc at the school Christmas disco! Mistletoe very much in use! 😆
tobee · 20/03/2025 03:07

Cor looking at the list from Wikipedia I can't believe all these songs were in the one year! A few stinkers in there too of course!

If you like rare 80s tracks, the 'Forgotten 80s' segment on Absolute Radio 80s is great for this!

mamaduckbone · 20/03/2025 18:01

Now That's What I Call Music 9 was played back to back on the bus when I went on a school residential in year 7. Must have been 1986/87.
The first bars of 'Suburbia' by the Pet Shop Boys or 'La Isla Bonita' by Madonna and I'm back on that bus making eyes at Mark Webster 😂

Ohthatsabitshit · 20/03/2025 18:06

I have to say it’s brought a smile to my face. Good good times

@SprinkleOfSunak There's a pic of the back cover as well, listing all tbe tracks but the image is still under review.
It was proper glorious!
If I had a record player I definitely would have bought it.

Buy it and buy a secondhand record player

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 20/03/2025 18:19

Watch TOTP on BBC4 on Friday nights. There's usually an 80s one.

That’s what DH said! I will go and check tomorrow if it is still there.
Nice to hear it’s brought so many happy memories for some of you, those were the days indeed 😀
