Just tipped my carefully made veg stock down the sink!

Spent a few hours this afternoon blanching lots of veg so I can freeze them rather than go to waste, in a large pan one lot at a time. Carefully making sure I had another pan underneath the colander to catch the stock. Then blanching the next batch in this precious bloody vegetable water.

Obviously at the end I just tipped it down the sink. What a nob ffs.

(Before anyone asks why I buy more vegetables than we can use, I don’t. My family is in rural Lincs where most seasonal veg is plentiful and cheap and when they visit they bring us tons which I always use or give to neighbours).

I’ve done this before with chicken stock, gutting!

crumblingschools · 16/03/2025 18:20

I’ve done it too with chicken stock!

Snooks1971 · 16/03/2025 18:22

I was thinking how I’ve done it with chicken stock too and how clever I was being this time not to just chuck it away!

Yep- been there!

imisscashmere · 16/03/2025 18:28

I’ve cracked eggs directly into the bin more than once 😅

Daisydoesnt · 16/03/2025 18:31

I actually did it in an exam at chef school. And yes, I needed the stock as it was one of the things we were being tested on.

Snooks1971 · 16/03/2025 18:35

Eggs?? Oh my lord Grin

@Daisydoesnt I am having second hand pain for you…in that split second when you think No………wtf have I just done

TheDandyLion · 16/03/2025 18:39

Yep. Done that.

Popouy · 16/03/2025 18:45

I once made bone broth for my dogs, 48 hours in a slow cooker.

I put the colonder in the sink and didnt put anything underneath it.

I cried.

user1471538275 · 16/03/2025 18:48

Another one guilty here - chicken stock.

Snooks1971 · 16/03/2025 18:48

@Popouy don’t blame you!
It’s sort of up there like when DH left the freezer door ajar 20 years ago with my breast milk in. Complete accident.

Edit because too traumatised to type coherently.

I've done it too, after infusing milk with garlic, onion and bay leaves before making a white sauce. Full saucepan of milk down the sink.

Zeitumschaltung · 16/03/2025 18:58

Yes, the pasta autopilot kicks in as soon as I get the colander out, absolutely gutting

SantaToSSD · 16/03/2025 19:04

I've sort of done this multiple times. Not stock as such, but I like to make the gravy to go with a roast dinner with the drained water from an accompanying vegetable, and countless times I've drained the water down the sink and then realised what I've done and had to boil a kettle especially.

Serriadh · 16/03/2025 19:06

This is sign from the universe you should have a takeaway tonight!

Favouritefruits · 16/03/2025 19:18

Here’s my chicken stock bubbling away, not to make you jealous or anything 😂🤣 I will try and remember to pour it into a jug, it’s for the cats, they’d be terribly disappointed

I did this when I made elderflower infused gin. Strained out the elderflower and about 50 quid worth of gin went down the sink!

Yup.

Hours and hours of simmering and then left staring blankly at a colander full of skanky ass bones and veg scraps.

HopeItsChips · 16/03/2025 20:11

I feel your pain OP 😬

AlexandraPeppernose · 16/03/2025 20:12

Yep. Done that. Also poured away the syrup for my lemon drizzle which contained all my lemons

BeaTwix · 16/03/2025 20:12

I think we've all done it. Sympathies.

(Mine was chicken stock).

Kolin · 16/03/2025 20:15

My DH has done it with chicken stock more times than I care to remember. Annoyingly I doubt he’d do it to veg stock!

Triakne · 16/03/2025 20:16

I've done this too! It's a total WTF moment when you see your beautiful stock go down the plug hole 🤣
