Had an email saying thank you for spending your points today. Only…I hadn’t! Someone else has spent them. Luckily it was only 500 points (£2.50) but still. Contacted nectar and they have cancelled my card and are sorting out a new one with my points restored. But ffs

I've recently noticed that there is now an option in the app to lock points spending. You just unlock when you want to spend them, and they can't be used without your knowledge.

Blackcat08 · 13/03/2025 16:19

Happened to me. saved them up for Christmas & someone hacked in somehow & spent them in a store hundred of miles away from me. Contacted Nectar and got them back though plus a few extra for the inconvenience.

Yeah just spotted that today too. I’ll be doing that from now on

It happened to me before the lock option was introduced. Except it was around £150 worth. They refunded them and sent me a new card. It was a bit stressful as I want sure what else they’d got access too.

Smokeyblueblack · 13/03/2025 16:56

I had an item on the radio some months ago about a lot of people losing substantial amounts of Nectar points to scammers.
So when they introduced the lock spend button recently I made sure to do that. I don't usually let my points build up to more than £30 or so before I treat myself with them but even so I would be furious to lose them.
So I sympathise OP.

FLOWER19833 · 14/03/2025 13:17

Mine were stolen too today. Did you get an email thanking you for spending your points?

angelcake20 · 14/03/2025 13:52

They took over £500 worth from me a couple of weeks ago and searching found loads of facebook posts with similar. As a positive, Nectar sorted it all very quickly.

gandticenslice · 14/03/2025 14:05

Yep the bastards took mine before last summer and when I went to use them on Christmas shop realised they’d been nicked. Took screenshots of transactions in nectar app. Thing is they somehow had taken double my points about £180 ish and everything I was buying in Sains, thinking I was topping up, was in fact paying back the negative balance. Fuck knows how they did it. Nectar sent new card and reimbursed plus extra points. Locked my card and shop in Tesco now, much better pound for your points.

RossGellersCat · 14/03/2025 14:20

Oh, I got an email about a month ago thanking me for spending points and I assumed it was a scam email as they used a mismatched title I've never used (Mrs and my maiden name) so didn't follow it up. Didn't realise this was happening to others!

Yup! I never normally get an email either, so I intially went into my nectar app and saw that yep, 500 points had been spent.

Happened to me at Xmas, new card & all points restored. But if it had been in my local store I'd not have got the points back, they were spent in London & I'm in Scotland.
It's a pain though & we now have cards locked to only be spent by main account holder in specific places - also a pain as that's DH & it's me who shops lol.

I’m in London and mine were spent in Scotland! DH is also our main account holder which we hadn’t realised (account over 20 years old).

Auburngal · 14/03/2025 18:39

If not done so, please download the Nectar app as it will tell you your activity of the points. Plus the ability to lock your points. A lady at my gym had her points spent in Crystal Peaks. She didn't know where in the country that Sainsburys is. I knew where Crystal Peaks is - south Sheffield, as that was the Sainsburys my late DGM shopped when she was able to walk to CP.

I said to ring Nectar, say you have no idea where Crystal Peaks is.

From what I have read and from family and friends, the points are used in stores at least 150 miles away. Never in the next town.

One problem with getting a new card is that it takes months to establish your shopping habits so get Your Nectar Prices on stuff you buy regularly.

Soubriquet · 14/03/2025 18:59

I wasn’t able to see exactly where the points was spent as by the time I thought to look, she had already locked my account down. Because I couldn’t remember my bloody security password (it was years ago when I got the card), she has had to send a letter to my house with a code I then need to email them with before a new card can be sent out. PITA.

After completing to nectar now my account is blocked, i can't log in ,reset password and it says my email address doesn't exist.

oh dear? Did anyone contact you about it? You might have to do a brand new card

I’m still waiting for my letter but if it isn’t here by the end of the week, I’m gonna say screw and it make new account. It was only 500 points

Noone contacted me , so not sure whats going on

monsterfish · 19/03/2025 20:33

Nectar must have been hacked a while ago as like others I have had this twice. lost loads is points, new card & got them reinstated only to have them go again. Plus I now keep getting scam calls 🙁.

RossGellersCat · 05/04/2025 18:01

In case this helps anyone else... I'm the person upthread who thought the email alert was a scam as they called me "Mrs RossGellersCat" which I've never been (I set my account up before I married).

However I've checked it out and sure enough 500 points from my account were spent in a store in Oxford that I've never been in, 200 miles away. Nectar have promised to reimburse the points and are sending me a new card. You can lock your points in the app (so that you only unlock them when you want to spend them), would recommend everyone do this.

MargaretThursday · 05/04/2025 18:18

We had 120k pinched at a store we never went to.
Nectar refunded the lot.

Solo · 05/04/2025 19:04

I've not been on MN in a very long time. Glad I have today and read this. Points now locked. Thank you!

Roselilly36 · 05/04/2025 20:02

My friend had over £200 stolen, Nectar did refund, but honestly it caused her a lot of upset and stress, surely Nectar/Sainsburys should have better security in place.

TY78910 · 05/04/2025 20:26

Just went to lock my points after reading this thread. Never really looked at the Nectar app as I typically never shopped there but now I find I do more and more. Went in to activate some Sainsbury’s offers and they’ve given me money off a lot of the things I bought in my last shop for next time 🤣 now that’s a way to make someone come back!

StMarie4me · 05/04/2025 20:41

Happened to me with my Iceland bonus Card. They refunded it but said they will only do it once.

Auburngal · 06/04/2025 13:48

Also if you want to redeem points, my advice is to lock as soon as you redeem the points. Just in case fraudsters decide to try your number again.
