At what age did you start feeling old?

I'm 34 years old and have started to feel old. I have 3 kids, sahm...recently we went to the airport and a man who looked same age as me in security said 'aunty is this your milk' referring to my babies milk bottle. I felt so embarassed and for the first time I felt 'old'.

I'm 35 and feel like a teenager.

I was far more mature in my early 20s then started to mature backwards from about age 27. It's been fab. 😁

Currently dating a younger guy and going into overdrive on going out (especially to raves) as I've just moved to my dream city and there's lots to explore.

I'm 60. I'm still waiting!

I have begun to feel quite old recently but I am seventy-five. At thirty four I was a young, busy working mother. I did 'droop' occasionally over the years but always popped up again. Now I droop more often and pop back up less easily :-).

You are young, op, this phase will pass.

I don't feel old but in September I was 70 so am old!

When I was around 50 my Filipino colleagues used to address me as 'Aunty Sue' as it's considered a bit rude to address a woman of that age by her first name!

But to answer the OP - I suppose last year when I turned 70, because there's no getting away from it, no matter how fit and healthy I am!

NormasArse · 08/03/2025 15:53

It depends how much pain I’m in. Today, I feel like I’m in my 30s; a few days ago, I could’ve been 80. I’m 58, with osteoarthritis.

The reason I feel better today is that I went swimming this morning, and used the hot tub and steam room afterwards.

I'll let you know when I start feeling old. 57 now. My joint, however, got old at about 50.

emmetgirl · 08/03/2025 15:55

I'm 58 and don't feel old at all!
You're in your 30s, you're a baby!
I think you're mistaking feeling tired for feeling old. Having kids round is very tiring. You'll have more energy when they're older!

aspidernamedfluffy · 08/03/2025 16:07

I've always felt young until I had a heart attack 6 months ago at the age of 58. I'm 59 now and I feel like I've aged 10 years in such a short space of time.

I don’t feel old at 53. My occasional hip pain tells me that I am ageing (but then again, I’ve been very fortunate to get this far without back or hip pain).

I won’t ever feel old, only grateful to be alive and have good health. This is my outlook due to losing my parents and a very close friend quite young.

The first time someone else made me feel old was when I was all of 23. I was teaching English abroad and had a class of 13-15 year-olds. It soon became apparent that they thought I was absolutely ancient and no different in age from the other teacher they had. Who - aged 32 - I also thought was very old!

In terms of feeling old myself, I’m 44 and think about being and getting old a lot recently. The news story about the research showing that 44 is a year of accelerating ageing came around my birthday, which was lovely. That and the heightened focus on all things menopause has focused it. I don’t actually feel old - more a sense that that’s probably how a lot of society perceives me. It has made me a bit self-conscious.

Disturbia81 · 08/03/2025 19:23

Not even close to feeling it in my mid 40s, if I get to 80 I would laugh at my young self feeling old..

henlake7 · 08/03/2025 19:41

I felt old in my 40s but it was mainly because I had a crap diet and lifestyle.
Now in my 50s and fitter, healthier and happier and don't feel old at all!

user1471453601 · 08/03/2025 19:45

When did I start feeling old? I'll let you know when it happens. I'm 74 and although my body is failing (it has every right to after one child and three rounds with cancer) my brain still thinks I'm 32.

That's all fine with me. I'd much rather my poor body fail than my brain.

I'm 45 in a few weeks and I've just found my first white eyebrow hair and I started hrt in October.

Wait until you get your first white nasal hair!

But you've got a couple of decades to go at least Smile

ChaliceinWonderland · 06/02/2026 22:57

54

ViciousCurrentBun · 07/02/2026 01:41

Post menopause at about 52 I felt older then recently I have been ill, I’m 59 now. Apparently ageing comes in chunks as opposed to an even flow over time. I don’t feel really old by the way.

I had DS when I was 34 and I would say my favourite time of life was 34 to 49.
