It's pancake day tomorrow

And the best pancake topping is lemon and sugar.

Being somewhere that doesn't sell golden syrup without at least a kidney and your first born as down-payment, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree and say golden syrup with lemon if far superior.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/03/2025 18:02

Lime juice and sugar is also delicious.

Devilsmommy · 03/03/2025 18:02

OP you are 100% correct😁

Ilovelowry · 03/03/2025 18:03

Thanks OP. Just remembered I forgot the Nutella so I need to go out now as DC has pancakes before school. Appreciate the announcement!

TeenToTwenties · 03/03/2025 18:04

@noblegiraffe I don't often disagree with you but you are wrong. Grin

The best pancake filler is chocolate buttons, pancake folded over to make a semicircle, sugar sprinkled on top.

noblegiraffe · 03/03/2025 18:08

Nutella and banana is a worthy runner-up, I think, but is quite filling so you might then only manage to eat a couple. With lemon and sugar you can eat loads.

Soluckyinlove · 03/03/2025 18:08

The best pancake topping is freshly sqeezed orange segments and sugar .... we had a "practice" last night. But, as my husband says, lots of proper thin pancakes, not the fat chewy abominations that are called pancakes in other countries.

RIPVPROG · 03/03/2025 18:09

I don't get the fuss over pancakes
(Runs and hides)

Doesn't the sugar just fall off when you pick up the pancake?

OP posts:
Mogzillas · 03/03/2025 18:09

Nope.

Fluffy American pancakes with Nutella and strawberries.

Not if you use cutlery and keep it vaguely horizontal.

TheChosenTwo · 03/03/2025 18:13

100% agree op, lemon and sugar is the best 😋
I’m on MJ and am desperately hoping I have enough appetite tomorrow to fancy pancakes aswell as my dinner! I will make some for ds for breakfast but it’s too early before school/work for me to eat, there will be loads left for pudding.
He likes all kinds of revolting concoctions including squirty cream and chocolate buttons and raspberries but does always start and finish on the classic lemon and sugar.

Your pancake day sounds way more civilised than mine. Cutlery!

My childhood memory is my Mum making pancakes, she would shout you when your pancake was ready (small kitchen) and she would flip it onto your plate you had had your first pancake on and we would only have lemon and sugar. As a family with 3 children it felt like a lifetime until your next pancake was ready. We ate until our bellies were full. Mum made enough batter to satisfy. I miss her greatly.

We used a fork to cut and spear the pancake. Civilised.

My own children let me down by not liking pancakes so I used to make English pikelets instead. It is not the same and I feel petulant saying it but it's not.

Beatzzz · 03/03/2025 18:19

My favourite day of the year. And OP you are of course correct. Lemon and sugar on a thin proper pancake

Never! Proper crepes all the way.

LuckyCharmz · 03/03/2025 18:34

I’m with you @LaTable, golden syrup is my fav too.

EmeraldDreams73 · 03/03/2025 18:38

Golden syrup and lemon for me! Lemon and sugar for dh, and (Tesco) chocolate hazelnut spread for dd and possibly banana.

Saw Nutella in Tesco the other day for almost a fiver! Never mind pancakes, I'd eat it with a spoon. Hence one jar of own brand for pancake day a year, much to dd's sadness. I envy people who can have it in stock and just have a tiny bit...

Flinderskleepers · 03/03/2025 18:50

Biscoff spread is king of the pancake toppings and I won't hear otherwise!

MyOtherProfile · 03/03/2025 19:52

What is wrong with you all? Cheese first here and then a sweet one - usually Nutella or lemon and sugar.

noblegiraffe · 03/03/2025 19:59

Cheese? Shock

PositivityVibes · 03/03/2025 20:14

I do not like our pancakes. Slimy. Though love American buttermilk pancakes and crepes.

Most of the food I don't like is for texture reasons. Don't like the texture, not going to enjoy eating it.
