It's pancake day tomorrow

And the best pancake topping is lemon and sugar.

@noblegiraffe very good 😂😂
I will not be giving up MJ for lent but I might think of challenging myself to something for the 40 odd days just to see if I can do it!
We aren’t religious but it might be fun…

I only like very think almost crispy crepe style pancakes, an old delia recipe sees me through but I do double it.

I'm going old school for mains and serving the teens Crispy Pancakes! I already know they're going to had them but 🤷🏻‍♀️

For the actual edible pancakes... they have requested choc spread, Strawberries, blueberries and raspberries and some with lemon and sugar! 🤤

PandoraSox · 03/03/2025 21:48

Agree! Lemon and sugar on thin pancakes. I like the lime idea too, though. May try that.

Daughtersandbristolian · 03/03/2025 21:54

I make the ultra thin crepes and the family love them, don’t know how I managed to be so good at them ( I’m so clumsy and kak handed ) we had ours this eve as clubs until late tomorrow evening, they did not complain ! Nutella and chic whipped cream for one, biscoff on the other and lemon and sugar !

They still make Findus Crispy Pancakes???

I suspect that they do not taste as good as my memory of them though, I had a similar experience with chicken and mushroom pot noodles.

Thin slices of apple and honey is my favourite and what I had growing up. Dh’s family have converted me to a savoury crepe though and I enjoy a cheese and ham one these days

obsessedwithfreshbread · 03/03/2025 22:18

@noblegiraffe
I couldn't find Findus... they're Birdseye I think they were bought out at some point... I don't think they'll taste anything like I remember but I'm going full 80/90's tea and pairing them with smiley faces, peas&corn and lashings of ketchup just for comedy value!

They won't care they're only interested in the actual pancakes

Itisbetter · 03/03/2025 22:21

I go with American pancakes butter and maple syrup (or light brown muscovado). Piles of them

ForeverTipsy · 03/03/2025 22:22

Gah! Totally forgot, and only have one egg left and no lemon.

Balls!

Oh thank you for the reminder! I'd have forgotten!

Cheese, spinach & mushroom followed b Nutella & banana and 3 of my 5 a day

Wishyouwerehere50 · 04/03/2025 00:44

I have to agree that lemon and sugar is the best. Added syrup for perfection!

I'm making almond flour gluten free ones which are pretty nice alternative. They don't quite match the old basic original.

beadystar · 04/03/2025 00:51

I am another for lemon juice and sugar. Vanilla ice cream is a close contender however. A savoury one should be smoked salmon, lemon juice and rocket.

When I was a student nurse in Manchester, back in the 80s, there was a restaurant called The Dutch Pancake House, at the top of Oxford Road. Their pancakes were about 50cm diameter, and delicious. The range of savoury and sweet toppings you could have was incredible, but my favourite savoury topping was the bacon and maple syrup. I never got to try the sweet ones, because I was always too full after the savoury one.

One Shrove Tuesday, my friend and I decided that it would be a brilliant idea to go to the Dutch Pancake House ON pancake day - and arrived to find the queue was out of the doors because, surprisingly, everyone else had had the same idea! I did develop a bit more sense, I promise.
