M&S boycott due to ads on GB news.

Just seen this on youtube, so had a google.
It appears to be causing a bit of a stink, wonder what Ocado think...

"High street retailer Marks & Spencer, which claims to be an LGBTQ+ inclusive retailer, has been hit by a boycott campaign over its decision to place advertising on GB News, which has been involved in a series of hate speech controversies.
Campaigners say the retailer’s decision to advertise on the channel, contradicts its claims to be “celebrating the LGBTQ+ community” and “making M&S a place where all LGBTQ+ people feel they belong.”

They might not have been aware they were advertising on there as an agency will buy their advertising but sure they are now...

they would still have to ok any suggestion from an agency so that’s no excuse

Why if it brings in money?

This idea that a business must be pure and only offer product via approved channels is so odd.

They are up against cheap imports and need all the money they can make to keep the doors open.

we don’t need to stoke up the hatred induced by GB news or the DM; it serves to divide us - we can all still have ethics and M and S did used to have some

Vitriolinsanity · 25/02/2025 20:38

Having spent half an hour in M&S Bluewater yesterday I'm boycotting them because they've gone to shite.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 25/02/2025 20:42

Loved M&S food but the last couple of times I've been in they are getting way above their station with the prices. It's not that good. Plus I'm a sex realist.

JazzyBBBG · 25/02/2025 20:49

Retail marketer here.

M&S will either be testing how the channel works for them or they KNOW the channel works for them because they've done it already.

Given the prominence of the grey pound in M&S and the appeal of GB news to older people it's not exactly a surprising move. They need to advertise to their audience and as was commented thread they need to keep the lights on.

I am gladdened at heart to see that some GB news watchers are actually semi literate Grin
Not all plebs are poor. Some can even afford an M&S ready meal....

I'll get my coat...

Nice try.

Can anyone pinpoint when the left started despising the working class? So strange …

SirDanielBrackley · 25/02/2025 21:35

Never heard such bollocks.
It was stupid ideas like this "boycott" that cost the Democrats the US election.
This is electoral gold for Reform and like minded idiots.
Whoever came up with the idea of boycotting M&S for this is too stupid to be let out in public alone.

PiggyPigalle · 25/02/2025 21:38

There are more openly Gay men on GB News than I've seen on any other TV station. Peter Tatchell as I type. Take it down and they lose that income. Or is that what you're aiming for?

user3827 · 25/02/2025 22:05

Haha maybe they should stick with just selling things

I did think it was oddly placed, since GB news and it's supporters (working class) isn't' what I'd call the usual M&S demographic.

What rubbish .
Working class not m & s demographic, jeez

hattie43 · 01/03/2025 07:48

I'm a middle class women and did my m & s shop yesterday . I love GB news and so do zillions of others .

Perfectlystill · 01/03/2025 07:48

I watch GB News and spend a fortune in M&S every week.

Theunamedcat · 01/03/2025 07:50

Why don't they boycott GB news then? They are clearly fans or they wouldn't have noticed the advert

It's a bit like the daily mail , they all profess to hate it yet all read it .

Working class? The only GB viewers I know are very wealthy country folk.

SidekickSylvia · 01/03/2025 08:03

I'm an immigrant, and I watch GB News and shop in M&S. You're very narrow minded, op.

greengreyblue · 01/03/2025 08:05

Wonder what GB news has to say about the Trump / Vance attack on Zelenskyy

What's that got to do with M & S advertising.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 01/03/2025 09:49

It's Byline so is there really a boycott in the first place? I couldn't care less if M&S advertise on GB News - I don't watch it myself because I don't care about clickbait opinions but it's a free country, if we all complained about companies putting adverts on telly channels we don't like there wouldn't be any adverts at all. Byline is a cesspit of bigotry and hate as far as I'm concerned but I wouldn't be bothered wasting energy on a mass boycott it.

I was in M&S last week and I saw what I'm sure was a working class person. I instructed my servant to berate said person, so he instantly excorted her out of the doors, whilst the usual crowd of upper and middle class clientele shouted "Beggar off to one's Daily Mail and GB News".
Everyone clapped and cheered.
