Anyone had a bin delivered from council before?

Woke up five weeks ago to find someone had stolen my beige bin. I ordered a new one via the council that same day. Got an email just after I ordered it saying 'we will send new bin as soon as possible' and that was it.

That was almost 5 weeks ago.

Going to call them in a few hours when i get a break at work but has anyone else ordered a bin before? how long did it take to arrive?

It took them three weeks to deliver my bin when I moved into my new build.

They gave me a delivery date at the time of ordering it.

Generally takes ages and if they are anything like my council, they just drive past and launch it from a moving van into your garden....

I needed a new one as their bin lorry ate mine.

OhSoSharkie · 24/02/2025 11:10

Took over 18 months for our two new bins to arrive after they had ended up in the bin disposal truck crushed...

LindorDoubleChoc · 24/02/2025 11:15

Not long from my London council. Maybe a week?

ThePittts · 24/02/2025 11:18

Ours was really quick couple of days at most

afaloren · 24/02/2025 11:25

I asked for a second recycling bin and it came in about a week. They didn’t tell me it was here, just left it on the drive which is fine.

My council delivers bins on a 2 week schedule, so if you have requested a new bin, the longest it will take is 2 weeks from the next working day, you need to ask what the service level agreement is. However these guys regularly get redeployed for any weather emergency, which can delay things

I used to deliver bins for the council. We’d generally aim for two weeks. The office staff would send through a list. Then binlist would be sent to a foreman who would give everyone a list for the week, as you could tie it in with other work. Some people were better than others so I’d chase up in case you’ve been ticked off but not delivered.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 24/02/2025 15:37

I'd chase it up. I had to request it three times in London

Zingy123 · 24/02/2025 16:26

5 months it took when ours was stolen.

Yup. Round my way they tend to chuck it over your fence or hedge.

Our black bin wasn't emptied on Thursday because it had split so the bin men said they thought it had rubble in it.
It didn't, we complained and the bin was emptied on Friday and a replacement delivered today.

TrainTicket · 24/02/2025 20:06

Mine took 5 days which was surprisingly quick. I thought they would drag their heels .

One of mine got eaten by the bin lorry. My neighbour was feeding her rabbits and saw it happen. I came back from a walk to be met by her rather bemused husband who told me. My replacement bin was second hand!! 🤔 🤔

BishBashBoshClick · 24/02/2025 20:20

My house had no bins when I moved in. I had two bins delivered the next time the bin lorry came round, so would have been no more than six days later.

CCLCECSC · 24/02/2025 20:23

I'd chase this up to see where it is; based on previous experience you should have that delivered weeks ago.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 24/02/2025 20:24

2 weeks here but it was a paper/cardboard bin and it was delivered on the next collection round along with a couple of others on the street

Blarn · 24/02/2025 20:26

Mine was broken by the bin men and I reported it in October. Still using a broken bin. This is in Birmingham though so I'm not sure we have money for new bins.

DaffyDuk · 24/02/2025 20:27

Ours was supposed to be within three weeks but took five. (Also a replacement for a stolen bin)

nattiee · 24/02/2025 20:28

Our bin men are great. Ours went missing I asked them when I next saw them doing the bins about half 8 in the morning and by lunchtime they had left a new bin outside the front door

MyFlightWasAwfulThanksForAsking · 24/02/2025 20:31

Never heard of anyone having a beige bin before!

HelenHywater · 24/02/2025 20:32

Mine took 2-3 weeks recently (my neighbour stole my recycling bin....).

amawaster · 24/02/2025 20:38

I work for council waste dept. We have run out of black bins so our residents will be waiting a while for new stock to come in. Order went in ages ago- 12weeks for delivery to our yard!!

Bowling4soup · 24/02/2025 20:40

The lid snapped off our blue bin, reported it online and a few days later they collected it and swapped for a new one

MsPenguins · 24/02/2025 20:42

Really quick one time about a day, other time a few hours. Impressive.
