Anyone had a bin delivered from council before?

Woke up five weeks ago to find someone had stolen my beige bin. I ordered a new one via the council that same day. Got an email just after I ordered it saying 'we will send new bin as soon as possible' and that was it.

That was almost 5 weeks ago.

Going to call them in a few hours when i get a break at work but has anyone else ordered a bin before? how long did it take to arrive?

We have crappy plastic boxes for recycling. Twice mine has disappeared in storms ( first time I was away, second I tried to secure it but obviously not well enough). First time I gave up after 5 months and chasing several times and bought one, second time turned up within a week.

Happened to us about 5 years ago, ours fell into the dump truck and they replaced it later than same week (annoyingly with one of those slimline bins and we had to fight to get them to swap it for a proper sized one, we were a household of 5 and a standard sized bin was fine but a slimline one was unmanageable!).

Mine has lost a wheel ( after more than 30 years!) contacted the council, yes i have to pay 😳, no we only mend them in some areas of the county and you aren’t in one, and oh btw, we don’t have any in stock!

Mine took about a week, but I complained a lot because the cheeky buggers wanted to charge me for one.

One of mine got eaten by the bin lorry. My neighbour was feeding her rabbits and saw it happen. I came back from a walk to be met by her rather bemused husband who told me. My replacement bin was second hand!! 🤔 🤔

There’s often second hand bins at the yard. If you qualify for an assisted lift you switch to one bin that is emptied weekly. Bins are £40 each so supposed to reuse where possible.

Ours was less then a week.

I ordered a new food waste caddy today because ours vanished. On the website it said in our council area it takes eight weeks for a new bin to be delivered.

When I've ordered new bins they've either been delivered the same day or the next day.

CatsorDogsrule · 24/02/2025 21:18

Within a day or two. Much faster than the estimate. Experience the same with 2 different councils, 150 miles apart.

I'm in London and it's 6 weeks in my borough and no date given

I ordered a replacement bin on Thursday and it was delivered this morning by 2 very friendly and helpful women.
