Anyone else getting Ocado frozen and fresh in same bag?

DH took in our delivery yesterday afternoon and I just found out that he's put all the frozen stuff in the fridge (in garage) and of course it has all defrosted. I thought they were keeping fresh and frozen separate?

If I only have a small amount of frozen the bag of frozen might be in a fresh bag but they are still use frozen bags.

throwaway25 · 20/02/2025 11:10

Surely this is a DH problem not an Ocado one?

Snowmanscarf · 20/02/2025 11:11

It’s been a long time since they’ve separated all the food. Didn’t they used to have different colour stripes on the bags for different sections? The quality of packing has definitely deteriorated, and I’ve had fruit etc put in with heavier items (and complained to Ocado before about this).

However, your husband was in the wrong here for not putting the stuff away correctly.

Fairyvocals · 20/02/2025 11:14

Yes, it all seems to be mixed up together these days. A bit dim of
your husband not to notice, though!

CatsorDogsrule · 20/02/2025 11:17

If only a small number of frozen items, yes, they often are in the fresh bag and the driver usually points it out.

I think they stopped frozen bags for a while, as a new policy, but went back to separate frozen bags.

storminabuttercup · 20/02/2025 11:25

I find they mix them as they are getting them out of the van to take the bags back

DH has done similar but then he did that when they used to split them completely I just tell him to check properly now

24Dogcuddler · 20/02/2025 11:29

I no longer get ice cream from Ocado as it’s always soft, sometimes like milkshake.
Frozen items usually in green bags but packing is far from ideal.

Glamiss · 20/02/2025 11:37

I find they'll combine bags as they take stuff out of the van.

My frequent bugbear is raw meat being put on top of salad.

pencilcaseandcabbage · 20/02/2025 11:50

Yes they stopped doing separate frozen bags a few years ago. I talked to the drivers about it as I sometimes had to go out before putting it all away, so I'd leave the cupboard stuff until I got home. Only then I'd sometimes find random frozen items in a 'cupboard' bag which I'd have to bin. They put a drivers note on my account to separate the frozen out - probably marked me as a troublesome customer! Last year they reintroduced the frozen bag, but it's not consistent and they definitely still mix frozen up with fresh (and even occasionally cupboard) stuff.

👩🏼‍💻Ocado employee here.

Frozen, fresh and ambient products all arrive at Customer Fulfilment Centres separately, on different HGVs and at no point can they get confused or mixed into the same bags within the initial decanting stage, or at being picked or at transfer onto the van. This is a physical impossibility due to the technical layout and administration work.

As of one of their CFCs last week, they are trialling putting ambient and chilled products into the same totes, (NOT bags) but this should not affect delivery of frozen mixed with any other type of product.

I will query this issue you have raised.

KittenPause · 20/02/2025 16:56

Definitely a DH issue for not checking

My teens check when they put food away

It's hardly rocket science

CrepuscularCritter · 20/02/2025 17:05

Current practice seems to be if there is limited frozen, it goes in with something else. Yesterday I had a lot of frozen and it arrived separately in two green stripe bags.

Thank you for this info. Sounds like it's the delivery drivers then. They used to tell me that the frozen was just in a box and they would have to find room in the fridge bags for it. Not really their fault if they weren't given bags for it, but this was a little while ago. But we have a delivery every week and it's still the case that about half of the time we get frozen in the fridge bags. It's only a few weeks since I last found frozen in a cupboard bag, which I really don't like.

Edited to add: I was on the verge of quitting Ocado for good over this, having used them for about 20 years now. It was only getting that drivers note that I liked frozen separate that meant I kept ordering from them. I did stop ordering frozen altogether for a while, and ended up doing much more of my shopping at Tesco and Sainsbury's whilst there getting my frozen stuff, so they definitely lost some revenue from me because of it.

He's working from home and was presenting at a meeting for 90 people at the time, online.

But that's not Ocado's fault Confused

The person putting the shopping away is responsible for checking, stuff gets mixed up in transit all the time.

Foxgloverr · 20/02/2025 17:32

This happens to me too. Often it's things like ice cream on top of salad so that it ruins it. I have also complained many times about raw meat being put in the same bags as fruit/salad but they say that they are confident in the hygiene standards of their meat packaging so basically saying they don't care. It's the one thing that could make me stop using them.

Gilead · 20/02/2025 17:51

If stuff isn’t getting mixed up, why did I have unusable lollies, more than once. I’ve stopped using Ocado because I couldn’t trust the frozen food.

Then you probably should have ordered the shopping to come at a different time.

Vipersgonnavipe · 20/02/2025 17:58

Normally the driver points out the frozen food and in the last few months it’s been back in a green stripe bag. This week the frozen was in the green stripe along with some tins and other cupboard items. Before now I’ve had cupboard items in with the fridge red bags too. The drivers normally bring the whole crate up to my door, it’s not far, so I don’t think it’s the drivers doing anything in my case.
It’s very jumbled though. One bag absolutely stuffed with 4x 2l milk, some tins, meat etc, then another with just a block of cheese. It makes for a nice chat with the driver most of the time, we’re both bemused!

Agreed, you can choose your delivery slot.

Are you suggesting OP that he left his presentation to 90 people, took the delivery in & put it all away before going back to his meeting??

Crochetpenguin · 20/02/2025 20:50

I find my delivery drivers do not want to bring the crates to the door anymore and just carry the bags. They will put smaller bags into other bags to reduce trips from the van so everything gets mixed up

Time for him to get back to the office.

He is presumably an adult who paid for shopping with his own money and he should have taken care to store it in the right place rather than rely on the store to code it. Has he no common sense?

Mine vary. Today, the driver made one journey and carried about eight bags. Sometimes they’ll do two journeys, and others will bring the crates.

FacingTheWall · 20/02/2025 21:24

Mine has always been in separate bags. The drivers do sometimes combine bags so they have fewer to carry from the van, but they’ve always separated the frozen.

I don't really understand what this has to do with keeping fresh and frozen separate? Either your DH stuffed the entire bag into the garage fridge and never went back to check after his meeting or at the end of the working day to sort it out, or he took everything out of the bag as he was putting it in and failed to notice that half of it was frozen food and not for the fridge?
