Your DC age and car seat

mummysmagicmedicine · 16/02/2025 19:31

I am aware car seats are a very controversial topic and everyone on the internet seems to ERF but in real life I only know a handful (myself included).

So I am wondering, what car seat do you have for your DC and how old are they?

Age 6: Axkid mini 2

Age 22 months : Joie spin

The 6 year old is about to move out of the Axkid and the about to be 2 year old will then move into it

PigInADuvet · 16/02/2025 19:34

Mine is 6 years and in a HBB with a crelling harness. Would have preferred to RF longer due to safety, but child is a giant and maxed out the ERF car seat market by weight and/or height by 4.5 years

MumChp · 16/02/2025 19:35

We go with Römer/Britax car seats for every age.

Will your 6 year old now go into a high back booster?

Yes she will. I know there are bigger ERF seats that would work a little longer but the price is high and I feel she will be OK in a HBB from now

DD is 3 next week, DS is almost 16 months. They are both in an Axkid Move.

CrispAppleStrudels · 16/02/2025 19:47

We don't have our own car but have car seats in my DM and DF's car for when we are visiting.

3.5yo - britax max safe pro
10mo - joie 360 that used to be for the 3.5yo

At our house, we have a maxi cosi pebble 360 (without the base) that I hate but has been used for both DC, and a joie stages that we've never used in case we ever need to take our eldest on an emergency taxi or hire car journey.

If I could justify it, I'd replace the maxi cosi with an avianaut but we just use it so rarely, it would be such a waste of money.

My daughter is only 18 months but in a besafe stretch with a plan it’ll get her to at least age 6. She’s in an axkid one in my mums car which won’t last as long but is isofix and easy for her to install which was an important factor.

stackhead · 16/02/2025 19:52

DD aged 5 is in a HBB with the belt. She's been forward facing since about 18 months when she started playing hell if she was rear facing. It's a joie one.

DD 4 months is in a joie spin. We'll rear face in that for as long as she let's us and then move into older dds old joie stages.

Extended rear facing is very rare roundabout us. Most kids are out of car seats on the school run by year 4/5.

Namechanger385u4p · 16/02/2025 19:52

My 6 yo is in a minikid 2, he's almost 7 but he's only 20kg so it's lasted longer than i expected! He still has a good nap on long journeys in it.

Same seats here! But I have 3 year old in the spin and 5 year old in Axkid. Both rear facing and have had no complaints. Not really sure when 5 year old will go into HBB but both fine as they are at mo!

meganna · 16/02/2025 19:56

6 next month and been in a HBB for about a year. Younger one is 2.5 and in a Joie ispin 360.

LuckysDadsHat · 16/02/2025 19:58

8 years old, 28kg and 136cm tall and is in a cybex HBB. Will stay in it till they are 150cm tall.

SneakyLilNameChange · 16/02/2025 19:59

7- joie HBB using seatbelt
5- joie something…it’s a 5 point hardness anyway. Both FF and have been since 2…didn’t realise it was a thing until recently as I didn’t know anyone who rear faces beyond 18 months/2 (live in a nice suburb v middle class so surprises me really on reflection!)

Haveiwon · 16/02/2025 20:07

3 year old FF in Joie Stages. Turned FF at 2 due to severe car sickness.

1 year old, maxi cosi pebble, which is about to be outgrown. Will get another Joie Stages and hope to rear-face her for longer as long as she doesn’t start committing every car journey like he did!

Haveiwon · 16/02/2025 20:08

ETA: vommiting not committing! Silly autocorrect 🤦‍♀️

Starryknightcloud · 16/02/2025 20:13

Joie 360 spin (rear facing) at nearly 4.

Will be outgrown at 4.5 as they leapt up the centiles and I swear when I had her everyone was saying 4 for FF, then 5 and now 6 seems to be bandied about.

Don't really want an expensive RF seat for a year, especially as need them for grandparents cars too so not too sure what to do.

V middle class, montessori, gentle parenting, BLW area but FF in line with the law seems the done thing here.

Chipsahoy · 16/02/2025 20:15

Be safe for mine. Before I knew they existed, mine were in britax. Youngest was in a be safe rear facing until 4. He’s now in their isofix high back booster at nearly 7. Wouldn’t use anything else but Be safe

JimHalpertsWife · 16/02/2025 20:17

Mine were both in the Britax 2Way Elite erf seats. This was 12 years ago so probably when they first started to be a more known concept.

Then at about 5.5/6 they went into HBB

MixedBananas · 16/02/2025 20:21

DS1 age 3 - maxi cosi i360 age 0 - 12

DS2 age 6 months - Joie i-spin 360

We have a large car so apl 3 back seats are usable with 2 car seats and an adult.

We had an RTA a few months back and I am GRATEFUL for the child seats they saved my children. Me on the other hand have several muscular anf nerve damage in my neck back and knee.

Randomusername37258 · 16/02/2025 20:25

Mine are in boosters, 8 year old just a normal one and 4 year old in one with the clip on so the seatbelt is in the right place. They're both tall and sturdy so I'm not too worried, plus our car has a great encap rating for rear passengers and kids. We have a smaller car too which I put German high back boosters in as the car encap rating isn't so good so I want the extra support from the seats, and the more thorough testing on them.

The legal minimum is fairly standard around here and I'd say it's fairly middle class. Tends to be dictated by what fits so if you need three across it's different to two across. We also know a fair few that came out of car seats the moment they hit the height limit.

Lavender2021 · 16/02/2025 20:32

Two different car's one child ages almost 5 years old.
Axkid minikid 2
Axkid One
I would say a got while left in both. The minikid will be outgrown by height first as my child has a long body.

Not many people I know rear face long term and local area just using a car seat is a challenge!

PassMeTheCookies · 16/02/2025 20:33

Age 5.5: Britax Kidfix iSize

Age 2: Axkid Minikid 2

SockQueen · 16/02/2025 20:35

Both DSs (5&8) in Britax Kidfix 3s.

Takemeawayy · 16/02/2025 20:41

6yo in a britax kidfix. Has been in a hbb since 4 when she outgrew the cyber sirona
2yo in the cybex sirona. Still rear facing but despite the stats around safety I am wondering when to forward face as he can sometimes be whiney on journeys and to be able to see me and out the front may be beneficial.
