Can someone help me with a London Tube question please?

I am taking my daughter to a gig at Brixton Academy soon, our hotel is near Kings Cross station.

I’ve only been to London once before and im nervous about using the tube! Can anyone tell me which line I need to get to Brixton and then back to Kings Cross after the gig please? Will the tubes still be running at that time of night?

Thank you in advance x

The tfl website or google maps will give you this information. More accurately and with real time info.

Br1ll1ant · 06/02/2025 21:22

Both those stations are on the Victoria line, so very simple. You’ll be fine!

NuffSaidSam · 06/02/2025 21:23

Yes, use tfl Journey planner or CityMapper or even Google Maps to see your possible routes. Put in the time times and date of the concert to get an accurate idea. Do it again when you leave the venue to get up to date information on the best route.

Victoria line (light blue). It will run late yes, google last train time out of Brixton (which I think is end of the line so there will be a ‘last train’).

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 06/02/2025 21:25

Pp said The Victoria line, Brixton is the last station southbound. When you exit the station turn right its on the other side of the road down a side street, five minutes walk. Don't get your phone out and watch your stuff.

IdaGlossop · 06/02/2025 21:25

Easy. Take the Victoria line (light blue) from King's Cross nine stops to Brixton. You don't have to change. At two minutes per stop average, it should take about 18 minutes but allow 30 to cover a wait for the tube yo arrive and getting down into and up from the platform.

longestlurkerever · 06/02/2025 21:26

And yes, gig curfew time is before last tube time even on weeknights. At weekends they tend to run all night these days. You can pay by contactless card

Victoria line is light blue!

it’s really easy though. No changes.

Have fun in London.

Arrive in plenty of time at Brixton. Last time I went, the queue snaked twice around the block as they will check every jacket, every bag and it takes forever. We missed the support band and the start of the band we wanted to see, and we’d arrived in what we thought would be plenty of time (have been to Brixton loads over the years and never waited that long to get into the venue before)

Victoria line from KX will take you to Brixton tube. 5 mins walk from the academy. Don't dress up!

YesHonestly · 06/02/2025 21:38

Thanks so much everyone, I really appreciate it!

Noted about not getting phones out, I won’t have a bag just phone and bank card in the inside pocket of my coat.

Definitely wont be dressing up, I seem to live in comfy wide legged trousers and trainers these days!

I’ll have a look at tfl too, thank you for that.

You'll be fine, who are you going to see? I saw so many bands there growing up, fond memories!

LostittoBostik · 06/02/2025 21:42

There is a direct tube. Take the Victoria line (the only line at Brixton) directly to KX. It's only about 18 minutes

LostittoBostik · 06/02/2025 21:43

Oh yeah, just out Brixton tube is one of the more chaotic parts of London. All part of the charm, but no waving phones or cards around just there :)

YesHonestly · 06/02/2025 21:50

@KylieKangaroo we’re going to see The Reytons..I haven’t got a clue who they are but she loves them!

Much as everyone is saying watch out in Brixton, it’s also a buzzing spot with loads of great restaurants. So consider getting there earlier again and having organised a restaurant.

That’s true. There are some fab places in the market and where the arches under are under bridge.

Yes, definitely make sure you have the means to quickly check when you leave (tfl/CityMapper/Maps). It's all well and good if the Victoria line is running, but have a back-up incase it isn't. Last resort go to the tube anyway and ask the staff, they'll point you in the right direction.

Yes, go really early and find somewhere in the market (aka Brixton Village ) to eat. There are entrances from Atlantic Road and from Coldharbour Lane, under the railway bridge opposite the new theatre.

Victoria Line - Southbound platform 4 straight to Brixton
Just ask at the station, someone will gladly help you

HotCrossBunplease · 06/02/2025 22:59

Not sure why a PP is trying to spook you about the Victoria line perhaps not running. I mean, there could be some unexpected event but it’s not known for having regular shut downs.

Enjoy the gig!
