Can someone help me with a London Tube question please?

I am taking my daughter to a gig at Brixton Academy soon, our hotel is near Kings Cross station.

I’ve only been to London once before and im nervous about using the tube! Can anyone tell me which line I need to get to Brixton and then back to Kings Cross after the gig please? Will the tubes still be running at that time of night?

Thank you in advance x

Not sure why a PP is trying to spook you about the Victoria line perhaps not running. I mean, there could be some unexpected event but it’s not known for having regular shut downs.

Enjoy the gig!

Life must be tough for you if you're 'spooked' by the idea that a tube line might not be running perfectly! Whatever you do don't check the the tfl status updates, you'll be afraid to leave the house!

It is the OP who will be spooked, not me you muppet. OP had to come on Mumsnet to find out which tube line to take…she’s hardly a seasoned Londoner. No need to introduce random jeopardy to what is an entirely straightforward situation.

The OP responded to that comment with "Thank you, that's really helpful". Seems she's a bit more robust than you're giving her credit for.

You muppet.

Oh come on people - Brixton central is as gentrified as it comes. It’s perfectly safe. No-one is going to steal anything from you. I’ve been going to the Academy since the mid 90s when it most definitely wasn’t - and I was 15 - and I was fine.

It worries me that adults can’t seem to cope with simple things that thousands do every day.

Use the Citymapper app. I've lived in london all my life and it's invaluable for any trip.

download tubemap on your phone. It will give you live updates etc and it's free. Don't let people spook you unnecessarily. I work in London and have used tubes for 15 years every day, never had an issue, you'll be fine. There are people you can ask at the stations you will need to use them. Just make sure you stand on the right in escalators otherwise you may get a grumpy londoner asking you to move! If a tube is really busy and it stresses you, just wait for the next one, they are frequent. If you get on the wrong one, just get off at the next station and find the opposite tube.

But Victoria line is perfect for your trip. It's the fastest route across London and is perfect for your trip.

I’m not sure if the last bit of your post was aimed at me?

If so, it’s a little uncalled for. Wanting to check which lines to take because I’ll be somewhere unfamiliar with my daughter at night isn’t being “unable to cope”.

Most of these comments have been the best of mumsnet. Kind, helpful replies from people familiar with the area and additional tips on restaurants and journey length on top. I could have googled yes, and I’d have figured it out no doubt, but the people who have taken the time to help me have made it much clearer and I’m very grateful.

I wouldn’t exactly say Brixton is as gentrified as they get either… it’s not Barnes is it? I would be careful with my belongings as I would in many other parts of London. It can be a bit hectic outside the tube station so know before you get out which direction you need to go. Definitely check out some of the food options in the market beforehand if you can - it’s a cool location. Have fun.

I don’t think it was aimed at you OP more a couple of posters who are saying watch your belongings (you need to do that anywhere as I’m sure you’ll know!) and implying that Brixton is a bit dodgy. It’s a mix of rough and ready AND gentrification these days like most areas of South London. It is usually busy and hectic on the streets though, that’s true, and it’s good to know where you’re going, but I’ve never felt unsafe there.
