Does anyone else feel they are catching one lurgy after another?

Or is it just me?! Feeling fed up of the germs, seem to get over one cold or virus then another one shortly comes along. I try to look after myself, take vitamins etc, don’t know what else I can do!

Yes me too, it’s been a miserable winter!

like you I eat well, take supplements too, but seem to have sinus issues again just as soon as they’ve last cleared up

Cloud44 · 05/02/2025 15:23

It’s making me feel a bit miserable now! It’s affecting my work but I’m not sure how I can stop catching things!

Do you mind me asking what supplements you take @Pomped ?

I was taking a general well woman all in one but I’ve started to take echinacea and zinc too, I suppose it needs time to build up. Are yours chesty/sinus bugs too? I had a course of antibiotics in November which cleared a nasty bout but it wasn’t long before it, or something different, came back.

oh and also recently started probiotics for digestive health. I’m peri menopausal so trying to invest in overall health but my body is protesting!!

Cloud44 · 05/02/2025 16:28

Mine seem to be coldy/ virus things. It’s stressing me out a bit which probably won’t help. Have you had to take any time off work?

I was ill for about a month. I had pneumonia it was awful. I couldn't even do very basic things. I couldn't function at all . I didn't even get completely better. I now have a cough/cold . No where as bad as I was . But its making me chuck up. And it's really wrong me down mentally because I have been ill for over a month

I have lost about a 1.5 stone. Still over weight though

TheSunnyLemonViewer · 05/02/2025 16:53

Yep. But I have a toddler and I’m also pregnant so my immune system has taken a battering!

wherearemypastnames · 05/02/2025 17:17

How much downtime do you get? Can you rest up as much as possible - sounds like you are run down so rest and fresh air

Cloud44 · 05/02/2025 18:37

I try and have some downtime, but even if I’m not over tired I seem to be catching things.

This has happened to me this winter as well. I’ve had several viruses, one leading to pneumonia. Been to the doctor to get advice but they couldn’t really give any. I eat quite healthily, walk every day, do yoga, take supplements. I’ve ended up depressed with it.

Cloud44 · 05/02/2025 19:58

Did the doctor have any advice at all @LeaveALittleNote ?

Yes, the current Mr Lobster has been constantly ill with various lurgies since the start of December, every single one, he's claiming Covid, although hasn't tested and won't accept there are other nasties out there too.

He didn't have a particularly great 2024 with bugs and I want him to get checked out. He's currently tucked up at his home recovering.

I'm usually pretty robust but I've noticed since having Covid I'm more susceptible to viruses too but thankfully not as bad as him.

Puzzledpony · 05/02/2025 20:04

It's a bad winter. I had a proper flu think at Christmas, which took 4 weeks and antibiotics to clear. I've had 3 separate colds since. I'm asthmatic, so used to it, but I'm bored with it now.

Everyone in my office is the same.

Cloud44 · 05/02/2025 20:22

It’s hard not to let it get you down isn’t it

FcukTheDay · 05/02/2025 20:28

I have had covid, proper flu, pneumonia and random colds since November. Its miserable. I do work in a school though.

Hattieandcake · 05/02/2025 20:30

Yes - was unwell after Christmas for 2 weeks then unwell again from mid Jan till now. Current issue is underlying sick / blergh feeling and runny nose no energy. It’s just awful and will not shift. I’ve been off work 2 weeks. I eat well but probably don’t get enough sleep, it’s really getting me down.

BobbyBiscuits · 05/02/2025 20:34

Yep. Since three days before Xmas I've been sick. Awful cold, then terrible sinusitis which I've still got now. At this point I think I've got another chesty issue as I'm coughing lots again. Feel really run down, feverish. Lost weight too. Which for me is dangerous. Gawd.
Yeah, I feel your pain OP!
Wishing you well x

Sunshineandoranges · 05/02/2025 20:38

We were just saying the same thing. I keep meaning to wear a mask on buses etc but forget. I have started taking 1000 strength vitamin c..hope that helps. Still it will be spring soon..first daffodil in my garden today!

Cloud44 · 05/02/2025 20:56

Sorry to hear others are struggling too.

WilfredsPies · 05/02/2025 21:01

I’m in the middle of a vomiting bug I’ve caught from a toddler. It has been about eight minutes since the last vomiting bug he infected me with and I’ve only just got over the cough and cold that he gave me in November. This child is like Typhoid Mary 🤦🏻‍♀️

PollyCreo · 05/02/2025 21:11

I don't understand why no one in the UK seems to take precautions any more. I know it's 5 years since the start of covid but no one wears masks or disinfects their hands. Everyone is shocked when they come down with the winter lurgy!

Snowmanscarf · 05/02/2025 21:32

Yes, think I’ve got the cough bug for the third time.

Hattieandcake · 05/02/2025 22:04

I’ve been using hand gel wipes and washing hands more than usual before picking this one up. Would others say they have poor immunity as I think I do.

LeaveALittleNote · 05/02/2025 22:11

@Cloud44 No real advice from the GP. They’ve done extensive blood tests which show low ferritin but no other issues, so I’ve started on iron. I’m also taking vitamin d, probiotics and a multivitamin, but I’m still catching everything that’s going around.

@PollyCreo I use hand sanitizer regularly and always wash my hands as soon as I get home. I’ve stopped wearing masks though. I might start that again.

I have been feeling short of breath for a month. I'm not actually struggling to breathe, I have a gentle cough but I'm not properly ill. I just feel like I can't breathe. Clearly I can because, well, I'm alive. I have even done played a bit of sport. Just wondering if anyone knows what that is?
