Spaghetti Bolognese...how do you serve yours?

Are you a stir the meat sauce and pasta together so the bits of meat kind of stick to the pasta and serve

Or a dollop of meat sauce in top of a pile of pasta ?

Whoops. Forgot to say. I mix mine in the plate up/put in serving dish.. to save money/use less actual meat. Otherwise the kids will take huge serving spoon fills of meat sauce and I'll need 2-3 times as much.

Dollop on top

Dollop. Didn’t know people mixed it - surely that’s up to the individual to do?!

It's traditionally mixed. But then traditionally what we make is closer to ragu anyway. And is MUCH less saucy. And not served with anything else (chips, salad, garlic bread!).

You either embrace the British fusion of it, or go properly Italian.

Smashandflab · 03/02/2025 20:14

@HamandCheeseSandwich to save money you can add a tablespoon or more of porridge oats and cook them into the meat sauce. My fussy kids don’t even notice and it increases the volume of sauce substantially.

Dropped on top and left to mix by yourself.

Everyone likes different amounts of cheese so if you pre mix it it needs mixing again to spread the cheese throughout and by the time it's been mixed twice it's cold. Better to let everyone put their cheese on and mix it themselves.

Paradoes · 03/02/2025 20:15

In your case I would absolutely mix it in

for dh I add it on top of spaghetti as he likes a lot of meat

BornSandyDevotional · 03/02/2025 20:15

Dollop on top. Red lentils instead of meat. Garlic and rosemary focaccia to mop up. Can't wait to get home for me tea!

Fairyvocals · 03/02/2025 20:16

Mixed in. I’m not a Neanderthal. But I like it with pappardelle or tagliatelle rather than spaghetti.

Bonjovispyjamas · 03/02/2025 20:17

I just eat the bolognese sauce on its own with cheese on top 🤣 So don't have to make that decision, not keen on pasta.

Fluff111 · 03/02/2025 20:18

Dollop on top, use fresh linguine rather than spaghetti or any other dried pasta. Generous grating of cheese for me too and M&S garlic bread.

Ambleen · 03/02/2025 20:23

I always serve seperately as I like some of my pasta plain with the cheese and other mouthfuls with more sauce than pasta. I've just realised I am less fond of all dishes that have only one texture eg risotto

Whatwouldnanado · 03/02/2025 20:24

Tagliatelle or anything other than spaghetti here. Pasta and sauce in separate serving dishes so everyone helps themselves. Bowl of grated cheese usually parmigiana and cheddar mix available. We stir pesto through the pasta, butter black pepper too because we all like it. Leftover pasta is then devoid of sauce and can be made into pasta salad for lunch. I usually swish a bit of the ragu around my pasta then put a dollop on top too.

Cheersmedears123 · 03/02/2025 20:45

Mixed in with a flatter pasta like tagliatelle.

Stresshead84x · 03/02/2025 20:52

On top with spaghetti, mixed in with other pasta.

AdoraBell · 03/02/2025 20:55

I mix it together, same with all pasta dishes.

I don’t mix other foods together.

prelovedusername · 03/02/2025 20:57

Dollop and - brace yourselves - topped with cheese sauce.

User1786 · 03/02/2025 21:01

Tossed in sauce before serving then Parmesan on top. That’s how it’s served in Italy

User1786 · 03/02/2025 21:02

Same with tagliatelle or papadelle which are probably nicer than spaghetti

User1786 · 03/02/2025 21:03

If you don’t mix it thoroughly, the pasta goes dry and nasty really quickly

RetiredJasonOrange · 03/02/2025 21:05

Dh - stir the meat and pasta together.
Ds - pasta then a dollop of meat on top
Dd - plain pasta no sauce!

Had this for dinner tonight!

Mangoesintoapub · 03/02/2025 21:07

On top but I’d rather mix. DD doesn’t like Bolognese so I only bring sauce and pasta together in the bowl.

HollyBerryz · 03/02/2025 21:09

Used to dollop, now mix

ClementinePancakes · 03/02/2025 21:10

I make a double quantity and we eat it twice in the same week (sometimes half is as lasagne).
So on the first day we add a ladle of sauce on top, on second we mix it together.

Oh it shall try that too

Half mixed in and a dollop on the top.

Same here

Half mixed in, dollop on top.

I love a Bolognese, secret ingredient is to add milk to the sauce 5 mins before it's done.

chargeitup · 03/02/2025 21:59

Made properly and eat it however you like. Made using a jar of Dolmio or similar and who cares. It's not bolognaise. It's an abomination
